I have been trying to understand why when I log in why I have to adjust the volume of every other application I have running on my computer, and it's not easy like in Vista.
I have to literally turn everything way way down, and then everything else that can not be independently controlled is EXTREMELY loud.
CCP, you need to fix your game's audio engine so we can hear things again. Put UI sound objects at a 0 camera distance if you have to, or something. Actually don't do that. Just bring back the old sound system. I am sure that you have seen the many complaints about things like the 5.1 sound system being broken. I am seriously wondering if you just said "eh, it works [just not well] so print it!" and have left us all to be upset.
It seriously is causing me problems. And ever since I installed Apocrpyha I have been experiencing issues with my audio service using 100% of my CPU (which it shouldn't, I have a fine sound card) and I am just really fed up with having to make my computer's audio revolve around a game to which most would ask "eve has sound?"
PLEASE. FIX.

Well I agree but I think it's clear not even the devs listen to nor care about the sound. They probably don't even realize that they broke it
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Well obviously since YOU have the issue, it is of paramount importance!
For the record, I haven't noticed any problems with sound.

Perhaps you should read this 4,000 view thread. Sound problems
Or the over 60 pages of feedback posts on the other board, with the borked sound engine being the common theme.

How many years has it been since they first said they were working on upgrading the sound engine? I'm pretty sure it's longer than the majority of users have been playing.

Perhaps I'm a jerk and don't care, because:
A. Sound isn't all that important. B. I don't experience the issue at hand. 3. I'm a jerk. d.

Have you been in a station and heard how loud the station is compared to the rest of EVE?
Have you warped to an acceleration gate and had your sound drowned in acceleration gate noise?
Have you tried listening to a fight?
Have you used a Salvager?
There are so many issues with sound right now. Whether you have 5.1 or 2-speakers, there are problems.
I can only hope those in this thread are trolling so CCP won't divert attention away from fixing the problem.

Yes I have, no its not. At least for me, I haven't noticed it being unreasonably loud.
Quote: Have you warped to an acceleration gate and had your sound drowned in acceleration gate noise?
Yes I have, and no I wasn't 'drowned in acceleration gate noise' There was a humming, but it wasn't abnormal.
Quote: Have you tried listening to a fight?
Sounded fine to me last time I was fighting. Guns were a bit quieter than before when I was zoomed out. Zoom out too far and you don't hear anything.
Quote: Have you used a Salvager?
Whut?

Okay, I understand that some people are having problems. I am not. This isn't an "EVE IS BROKENED 4 EVARONE" issue.
Quote: I can only hope those in this thread are trolling so CCP won't divert attention away from fixing the problem.
I'm not trolling, I'm just sharing that I have not noticed the issues you're talking about.
Edit: Quotes messed up

Like I said everything is just peachy for me right up until it quits working so its broke for me also. Sound levels seem fine and the plethora of new sounds are very good to immerse yourself even moar into the game. About the only real beef I have with the new sound engine past the 'works fine till it dies' thing are those damn annoying amarr monks having me wish for an option to turn off or change of the volume of station effects only. However I think my problem is different from yours as my scvhost acts normal. Have you tried this solution Siigari?

Ok had this issue before. Open the 'run' tab and type in 'services.msc' and look up 'automatic updates' 'background intelligent transfer service' 'event log'. Double click each one and make sure the service status is 'started' and startup type 'automatic'. Reboot and ms sites should let you back in. Blame the stupid ms keylogger crap disguised as drm.

Graphics aren't important. EVE hit "good enough" in the graphics department years ago. I certainly didn't have a problem with them... all those wasted man hours on something that's basically useless.
oh wait

The sound engine is massively messed up since the expansion. A great portion of players is experiencing this issue.
So its up to CCP to make sure their new sound engine is compatible to the various rigs their customers are using.
Atm its not compatible and it sucks balls.
Some sounds are way to loud, others are way to silent, others are completely missing, guns from npc ships sound like from a c64 and the list goes on and on.

Yes. Very annoying.
Quote: Have you warped to an acceleration gate and had your sound drowned in acceleration gate noise?
No. It's humming slightly with the occasional wooom-woosh as people jump out.
Quote: Have you tried listening to a fight?
Makes next to no sound.

No, acceleration gates. They are ridiculous. You can zoom out all the way and you're still flooded with a loud BZZHHHH.
But I will say, stargates sound like music now instead of electronics.

This is all part of a new CCP program called Player Integration.
You are actually expected to make your OWN sounds where they are missing/annoying/too loud/too soft/etc
So salvagers? You're supposed to go "Whomwhomwhomwhom..." as you salvage.
Jumping? "Woooosh-Kapow!"
Shooting Lasers? "BZZZZRT!!! HAHAHA Muthafrakkerz!"

Did you say no at some point when asked to install the ms validation tool services? If so you might have to do a repair install off of your disk. I'd also think about backing up your data files, music and furry pron then doing a format and fresh os install as that always seems to fix annoying windows glitches for me.
