I had no lag in 30-40 engagements for around 2 days.
Targeting and everything else was as smooth as a 1v1 in an empty system.
Did this happen at last?

It has certainly become a lot better, still some module lag in 20 v 20, but barely noticeable .. used to either desync, disconnect or just watch still images.
Still have not been in a weekend brawl, they usually hit 40 v 40 and happen when server is jam packed .. will reserve judgement until then.

The real test will be this weekend. If we get a 70 man blob, and the caldari respond, then we will know.

That's what we would call "normal" lag

Yeah, if the lag is on par with a 0.0 battle of that size I will be happy.

2 days ago is the last time I got involved in a large battle, and I desynched with the very first shot. I can put up with a degree of lag, as you expect it in this game, but the desynchs have been particularly bad for a few months now, and have been getting worse.
I hope you're right, Joh Lan, I really do.
But have your logservers running when you open EVE. If lag happens, we can at least capture it and send it to CCP. It also seems to me that every time I run it, I don't have any lag, and every time I forget it, the lag monster creeps up behind me and clobbers me with a ten foot Sea Bass.

Just had desync in a big fight in OMS. To be fair though, it was huge-er than the normal FW blobs.

The crippling lag that would affect fleets of 8+ in faction warfare..... I ahven't seen it in this patch. I'm confident they got it back to normal. Thank you CCP for fixing the Faction warfare lag bug. -- You can't do that with a Planet. |

During the POS hit attempt in tama this sunday I watched myself board my pod as soon as i got shot by the guns in a battleship (instapopped) and as I watched my shields go down slowly, I boarded my pod about 8 times. Fleet members were saying I was taking damage and to focus remote repping on me, but from my standpoint I couldn't even tell them if i was truly dead or now since i was already boarding a ship as my HP dropped slowly.
Said screw it, logged off, went and got groceries, came back 2 hours later luckily still in a pod \o/.
There were about 60 some Caldari, 20-30 Gallente within the pos that I could see. Not too many drones were out as we were at a distance, so that can't really be accounted for lag.
Sorry no logserver, just testimony.
Should note raids into highsec have had much much less lag than lowsec because of all the traffic highsec gets all day...but you all new that already

Not only we kept the lag, but (a first ) we also had fleet crippling voice server issues.

the lag is only gone for a while. the lag monster is sated and went to sleep. when it gets hungry again it will wake up and terrorise the eve world again, that is actually common knowledge, you should already know this

Yep, that was horrible. I desynced within the first 30 seconds of the fight.
The fleet-voice problems started happening once the fleet hit 100 members or so. After the fight the problems seemed to clear themselves up when the fleet dropped back below 100 people. It is very hard to try to mange a fleet when half the people can't hear what you are telling them to do...
As far as the smaller 20v20 and 30v30 engagements go, the lag seems to be much better. I was in a couple of these fights this weekend and the de-sync seems to be gone. Now all we are really getting is module lag. I got overview duplication once or twice but it wasn't that bad. |

Was in OMS and heyd with a 15 man fleet and a 9 man gal gang jumps thru and warps off untouched. We were all in frigs, AFs, and intys (couple of DPS Bcs) and we got no points even with the fast tackle because the whole system was lagging. Was proved not to be a collective caldari failure when a lone hurricane jumped into us and we all pointed. And the thing warps of 8 seconds later leaving us to smash our keyboards and use the pieces to cut ourselves. Really it lags in particular systems now for no reason AND in big fights. I hate you CCP

Other expecially stressing issues in FW:
1) It's meant to be new player friendly.
Ok, I am a new player. As low skill points new player the fleets ask me to jump in a frigate / cruiser and play support / tackle.
2) But by being a tackler I have to go "in the blob". I properly set up my overview to filter out neutral / friendly / structures blah blah also in hope to reduce lag.
3) By being tackler and in the blob, I am HAMMERED by FW lag as we warp in grid / opponents gate in. Hammered as in: my computer keeps running happily at 28% (!!!) CPU, video card at > 50 FPS even if I keep multiple clients open (> 200 FPS for "just" 1 client open) during the FW fight (but I usually don't, hoping that this helps somewhat with responsivity).
If I have i.e. 3 clients running, or even 5 clients running on my 3 computers, every single client is smooth and perfect EXCEPT the one I am FWing in, that shows 50 FPS but the scene is a total disaster of a slide show, even using the "optimize for performance" options.
4) By being hammered I can't perform my job well. I press scramble and it goes in effect when the guy's warped already since a lot. I activate a turret and it fires after 30 seconds (even if the buttons animate). I see my shield hit (still at 95%), and I know I am podded already and cannot do anything to avoid that. Some heavy fights, the overview starts getting double / triple duplicate entries and then I get a forever repeating "entering in space" progress box till I relog.
5) All of the above makes me not want to play the feature meant for new players like me because I want to die because I have been beaten, not because the game does not work.
6) As my corp is about FW and I don't want to play that feature aka FW, they will probably kick me, despite I love the corp and the people in it.
The above 6 points are a tantamount of suckage that makes me feel very bad about the game. I don't want to spend my years mining or doing something else that does not lag, I want to FW!

RE: The fight at Wolfy's Tama POS
Lag was bad at the start, and I did get the 'entering space' notification when my ship was still very much alive. However I relogged and after doing so found the lag to be 'acceptable'. Considering all that was going on I was still able to react quickly enough to warp my ceptor out in hull twice and point/inform gunners of what was going on.
That said some of our gunners were having overview issues, seeing things that weren't there and not seeing things that were.
Overall I'd say that for a 50 v 20 or w/e it was it was definately better than it was pre-apoc but certainly still worse than pre-apoc 0.0

The lag does seem to be still with us, although it does seem to be a little easier on the smaller battles. The hundred man blob of the weekend just dissolved into slideshow territory.
I have noted that every time I get the really bad lag, it tends to be when I'm on the defensive side, but this may just be coincidental.
I have proposed an idea before in other threads, and I will propose it here again, as I believe it would help: The big fleet actions in 0.0 have to be arranged 24 hours in advance so they can put the affected system on a dedicated server. Now why can't we do something similar for FW? Now, arranging a fight would be a little immersion-breaking, but what I propose is that a number of systems (say a top ten, for argument's sake) could be loaded onto this system during downtime. This 'top ten' can be taken from the list that determines the most dangerous systems (see the militia tab in station). By using that, we can prioritise a number of systems, and not just put the whole region on that server. I suspect Tama, Villore and Heydieles would figure routinely on this list.
The 'top ten' helps keep the usage of resources to a minimum, so that valuable server time only goes to those systems that actually need it. This sort of thing couldn't be done in nullsec, because the action can happen anywhere, but in places like Black Rise, there's a finite number of systems, and some of those are far, far busier than the others.
If resources are scant, then the FW systems could be loaded onto the same server used for the nullsec battles. This may slow their battles down a little, but this would only balance out with what those people living in lowsec have been experiencing. Better everyone has a mild amount of lag than some people get none and others get a game-breaking amount. The nullsec crowd may not like that, but it is being fair.
Also, if there is going to be a particularly big fleet battle in nullsec, then the number of FW systems on it can be dynamically reduced, and then increased again afterwards. Conversely, if there is nothing going on in nullsec, more FW systems could be added to the server. This would allow the additional server space to be utilised to maximum efficiency, although it would require routine maintenance (but they do that anyway when they take the server down daily).
I propose this idea because I feel it is a fair compromise. There may be big battles in nullsec, but there are many more smaller battles in FW. If you counted the number of pilots involved, you'd probably find that it's the same number over any given period (FW has smaller fights happening more often). Plus, there is also the fact that FW is meant to be a selling point of the game, and it's hard to keep those subscriptions going when people just keep getting stuck all the time.
If you like this idea, please help keep it alive.

Last night's 40 vs 14 at Tama station was totally playable for most of us. Props to the squids for bringing it, even though we did kill 7 with zero losses... ;) (TBH I was plesaantly surprised that we didn't lose anybody with such heavy ECM opposition present) ---
