Just wanted to say it works with all Premium effects enabled and set to high. I have no problems with sound or graphics. Of course this may not work for people with a different graphics card but its worth a shot.
My graphics card is a 9800 GTX which is fully supported by the 180.37 nvidia driver version that Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 installs automatically.
What I did:
1) Added WineHQ APT Repository according to this official guide (used same repository as for Ubuntu 8.10) 2) Refreshed the repository list and downloaded the latest wine (1.1.17) using the Update Manager. 3) Downloaded the Eve Client installation program and started it. 4) After install, did not manage to get past EULA text. Did not see any text and could not scroll the window. Fixed this by downloading the winetricks script and ran it with the corefonts argument so it installed the needed fonts in Wine. See the guide. After that - success. 5) Logged in to Eve, spun the ship around, enabled HDR and Bloom, exited station, flew to a planet. Everything looks exactly how it should. Docked. Wrote this post.
Hope this helps someone.

Man that's good to see. I'm testing Jaunty, but on an older laptop without the gaming capability as well as via virtualbox to report issues for the virtual environment, but the main rig (gaming+everything else machine) doesn't get upgraded until release + 1 week to avoid ka-booms that sometimes creep into release day stuff.

Did you turn on anti-aliasing and / or anisotropic effects via the nvidia-settings app in conjunction with the HDR + Bloom effects in-game?
If so, a) did it work (as in both effect groups are present)? b) is it stable? --- Not happy with something in EVE? An emo whine will doubtless help your cause. |

Confirmed working under Jaunty 9.04 from-scratch with the EVEaholic walkthrough. Few issues with crashing (unhandled page faults), but only seems to occur when alt-tabbing and not in all cases. 8800GTS 640MB OC2, driver installed automagically by Ubuntu (Seriously smooth!).
On a side note, I've done from-scratch installs of XP and Jaunty on the same machine in the past day. Blank box to EVE-playing machine times were 10 minutes for the Jaunty install and 12 hours for the XP install. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer ISKsense | EVE Metrics (NEW) | I Tweet |

So far so good - accept I get the annoying splash and crash and can only start even on first startup - also I am running 4 screens, and I used KDE4.2.1 If I go to another screen, even minimizes and cannot be restored. I end up having to kill the process and restart the computer. Anyone with suggestions, appreciated.

You need to run EVE in virtual screens under wine to avoid a well known focus bug: env WINEPREFIX="/home/jared/.wine" padsp wine explorer /desktop=eve1,1680x1050 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"

This is no longer necessary. It is an old hack.
Instead, open up the wine configuration GUI and look for an option to run your programs in a virtual desktop. Enabling said setting will do the same as quoted, but automatically.
Edit: In Wine Configuration, under the Graphics tab, there is a check-box labeled "Emulate a virtual desktop". If you tick this box, you can then specify the resolution of the virtual desktop. All your Wine apps will run inside a virtual desktop of the size you specify. --- Not happy with something in EVE? An emo whine will doubtless help your cause. |

a) Yes. b) Seems so, no crashes yet.

Still having one problem after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04. The wine virtual desktop will no longer fill the screen. It squeezes itself between the standard desktop menu bars. I am using this launcher:
padsp wine explorer /desktop=EVE2,1680x1050 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
Any suggestions on how to get Wine/EVE to be on top of the menu bars and full screen again would be appreciated.
