My alt is about 8 months old. First, I got into mining, got up to a Hulk, made lots of cash but boring. Then, trained up mission skills, and now Level 4 solo in a BS. What next? My problem is that: (a) low sec seems to be just for PVP where you just try to jump people weaker than you. No equal fights. Not worth mining. (b) null sec seems like a dictatorship... big Corps with lots of cash, but you have to do what they want you to.

Well, there's also trading. Oh, and wormhole exploration, but that sucks solo too.
Except that... well... that's about it right now. If you don't want to imerse yourself in the "multiplayer" part of the game, you have reached the limit.

but why or how or when (or whatever) exactly adds "multiplaying" depth to the game

Would you find EVE enjoyable for long if it was a single-player game ?

I appreciate the comment - yes, Eve is multiplayer. But most of the corps I've been in don't do a lot but mine together and chat... which is basically just online chat because mining is boring. Missioning together is pretty similar (though maybe Level 5s are different).

You're asking something akin to "why is water wet" or "why is the sky blue". Multiplayer is fun because it's multiplayer, because interacting with what you know is another human (to either help or defeat them) is many times more fulfilling than doing the same to a NPC entity. That's why most people hate playing chess with a machine, but they love playing chess with another human.

Nah, L5s aren't too much of a difference... just slightly harder. The only big difference is when you join a PvP corp and go out fighting, or join a corp that does wormhole exploration (where you get doses of both PvE and PvP, depending on luck).

Get into manufacturing or something. Lots to learn and play with there.
Most corps don't have as much isk as you might think. Usually the corp will hold some specific assets but the members have the bulk of the isk.
Yes, you'll be required to work within their guidelines. Usually these are fairly loose but nearly all are there for a reason. In order for any organization to work, someone has to do what someone else tells them. Part of the compromise of working with a group.
Try pvp. Pvp *is* the game. It isn't purely ganks and does require some thought. Then living in 0.0 takes time to get used to.

Heh well... 0.0 sov doesn't establish and defend itself, you know. It might be better to say that 0.0 is space that favours those who expect to and enjoy contributing to team effort. That said, there is a wide variety of corp styles even in alliance space. Not all will expect to dictate your every mouse-click and key-press.

If you absolutely want to play solo, here is the solution :
1) Get high standing with one empire
2) Invest some money in BPOs
3) Train for research and production skills (Prod Efficiency V, Science V, Metallurgy IV or V, etc.)
4) Create you own corp, install a research POS in highsec
5) Get money by researching BPOS and copying the researched ones 5bis) Produce ships, ammoes, etc. with researched BPOs
6) If you're crazy enough, invest in a freighter and start capital components manufacturing (with researched BPOs of course). You should even be able to make money by copying the BPOs...
7) Profit. ____________________________________ Fulbert Peon |

May I ask what are you doing with all the isk you earn???
Once Hulk and Raven are fully fitted and skills are bought, there is not too much places where burn the isk than PVP. I wish to reach this point so I "wont care" about losing a ship or even implants, and live in 0.0

I drop the ISK in my alts account, the alt does the invention dance and I do the mission thing, some times some WH or maybe a bit of 0.0 ratting and PvP, just what I feel like. The alt of course can also fly battleships and soon enough will be able to mount T2 guns on the thing but research, and invention are the main goals there. Building the researched BPO's is to much of a hasle, getting all the materials and stuff in one place .
As for what to do solo, pretty much nothing, WH are not for solo players, well the empire once are ok, but then you must be able to accept the fact that you will be shot at from time to time. Usually not to much of a worry but it could get nasty if the other side comes with decent guns.
Trading... talk about borring, more borring then any other part of EVE even mining offers rats that try to kill you from time to time. Trading can be as simple as sit in a station and place buy/sell orders, come back in 2 weeks and do the same in reverse... Congratulations you made ISK, see you in two weeks... Of course if you wan tmore ISK you will have to do more but the principle remains pretty much the same. The biggest difference being that moving goods between regions gets you more ISK then moving good within a single region.

Trading, start a business to run or make the leap to low sec/nullsec.
Low Sec isn't really the wolf's den people make it out to be imo. I never spent time in low sec until recently, but I have been living in a gateway area of low sec which leads to one of the most hotly contested regions of 0.0 and have not been overly threatened by the locals. As with 0.0, the key is to be aware of your surroundings at all times and to offer a hard target. I carry out my activities mostly in my pvp fit domi as low sec is a joke pve wise and I am accustomed to operations in deep 0.0. This means the average low sec denizen will be facing a serious challenge if they intend to solo me and if not fit and skilled correctly even a few may fall victim to my perma tank and mighty ogres/warriors.
With this in mind, I am free to roam as I please for the most part, being careful to scan gates of course and always making an effort to discover what others are flying and listening for information about neighboring systems.
My trigger to go on high alert is a sudden influx of ships (especially if they are same corp/alliance) or a fairly consistent trickle, either of which may suggest and attempt to engage me with overwhelming numbers.
Then it's a choice to bug out or continue my business while staying aligned.
On the whole this game is not as dangerous as many would suggest. Sure, You can get owned in a flash, but with some proper protocol you can make life in low sec/0.0 a manageable. and highly profitable affair.
Yes, you WILL lose ships eventually, not saying you can be "safe", but with a little practice and some experience under the belt, you can be safe enough, to make it worth your time.

Edited by: Mendolence on 23/03/2009 17:54:17 Low-sec is not worth the effort unless you want to hone your PvP skills, or simply like "living on the edge". When it comes to ISK/hour, it pales in comparison to high-sec and null-sec.
I agree it's not as dangerous as some folks make it out to be -- but you'll spend most of your time making it "not dangerous" as opposed to making money. If you could find some "quiet" low-sec systems, you could probably make a fair amount of change. But, IME, there is no such thing as "quiet" low-sec systems.

Technically, if he's ever bought anything off the market he's not playing single player any more, I mean you can't build a hulk without moon minerals. He just needs to get over his fear of social interaction.
I'd suggest finding some 0.0 alliance that allows neutrals and paying 0.0 a visit.

You still have a few options. 1. Work for a different faction, that will give you slighly different missions. 2. Do some mining, manufacturing, etc missions for a break. 3. Do COSMOS missions. You can surely do these for 2 factions (either for gallente/minmatar or caldari/amarr). They don't last forever and you'll not make a fortune but gives you a nice and interesting break. 4. Wait for the higher level epic mission arcs. Hell, I even did the curently only one which is a level1 arc and I did find it interesting enough (it was cool to kill all the battleships in one of the missions). 5. You may find other interesting stuff like exploration, just start thinking.
