so i usually fit my ishtar with an mwd. 0.0 small to medium gang warfare. i went with a dual MAR this one time. even though our engagement wasnt "small" gang per se, i was only focused on by 3 ships. apoc, muinn and another long range boat melted me in about 6 seconds. yes, my mwd was on.
i usually pulse the mwd to gtfo optimal in these situations, and then shut it off; i either take a tremendous amount of dmg in this process, or i pop (like i did this time). so:
- can AB speed of about 600m/s tank skilled pilots' BS guns? i assume not, but i thought id ask. i know it works against missiles quite well
- im contemplating fitting both an mwd and AB; it wouldnt compromise the tank much. after assessing the situation, it would give me options; for example, if AB is effective against turret and missile boats, i could offline the mwd, and turn the AB on for the duration of the engagement. any thoughts on this?

Edited by: Renarla on 23/03/2009 02:44:26 AB Speed tanking really only works well against one target. Set orbit to 500m and laugh at their attempts to hit you as you buzz around them. Problem is, if theres another BS more than a few KM away, you might as well be sitting still to him.

AB works very well at speed tanking larger guns then your ship. The problem is getting there in the first place. I stopped putting an AB on my wolf after repeated times of warping in, being 40km off of the target, and not being able to perform my job of tackling b/c I was too slow.

An AB is literally two webs away from being absolutely useless, even just a single web will seriously remove the benefits it gives you.
600m/s means you'll be slower than trimarked, quad plated BSes, so the chances of being webbed increase significantly. I'd put it on the market and fit something else in that free midslot. *** Currently Playing: Trolls from Outer Space Current Equipment: VISAcard chain mail, +2 Amulet of Epic Whine, Self Banstick +2 WTB: +666 E-peen killboard stats |

fit a 10mn and go 2.5k/s....
can still fit your tackle, do 150dps, and u go 2.5k/s with a 37(?) sig radius, its pretty beautiful.

Not true. A hac going 600ms with AB and normal signature (no shield extenders) and EASILY outtrack mega pulses up to 15-18 km. Amogn a pack of 4 BS by using AB speed tank while avoiding webs you will be avoiding more than half the enemy damage, sometiems even more depending on ship types involved.

What about fitting 100mn AB on your HAC? I have no PvP experience with that fit though... but EFT says it's possible powergrid-wise & gives almost 1200m/s on amarr HACs... that should be enough to dodge BS fire.
Anybody tried that?

Edited by: UMEE on 23/03/2009 15:40:24 cant fit a 100mn ab and have a decent tank left. i was talking to an alliance mate and he said that the 10mn afterburner would not be effective in tanking BS guns. best bet is to micro to your target, get under the guns, and do your thing. but in this situation, you would be easily shot at by the other battleships.
ive also decided to scrap the dual mar, as it is useless in anything but a tiny tiny gang battle. a buffer tank can give me ~50K ehp, which can get me under the guns. i guess im still debating if that AB would help me at all. i can potentially mount both...mwd to my target, offline it, and turn AB on. but if AB is useless...
anyone else with some experience in this department?

My x2 LSE Vaga going at 455m/s can usually speed tank BS guns at around 14-15km, but as stated, another BS will hit me as if I was completely still (had this happen last night). So for anything that involves more than 10 people, AB speed tanking will simply not work. Not to mention that fitting an AB in a HAC is just asking to die.
And yes, a buffer tank will be much better in your situation, but have you tried a sniper ishtar?

*sigh* ive yet to get sentries. but we mostly engage at gates, around 15km, and we roam, so cant setup for gate camps. yes, im still an ishtar noob, but i can afford it =P
