Hope I wont get fried for bringing critique in here ^^
I started playing eve about a month ago, and it seemed like exactly the right game for me. It has complex PvP with consequences, a mature playerbase and it's not carebear-heaven like many other mmorpgs. Plus it let's you decide if you want to grind or not (ie missions or just do something else).
But even though it seems so perfect, I just realised I was bored already. Why? Because even though the game has 40k players on, I'm pretty much playing alone all the time.
I was looking for a corp since day 1, but thats the problem: It seems all the corps in eve are pretty much split up in two categories:
1) new corps with less than 20 players, of which maybe 5 are active.
2) old corps that have a requirement in IP that equals to a year of playtime, together with an age requirement, requirement for a curriculum vitae, teamspeak server, requirement to live for the corp, pass interviews, have a dozen friends in the corp already and the requirement to having achieved pretty much everything already that you would want a corp for in the first place.
Where are all the corps that in other mmorpgs make up the biggest majority of players? You know, the average corp of players who favor rl, arent 100% elite, but still want to have fun with a group of other players?
I know I will get flamed for not being hc enough, but whatever ;)

Eve University does activies. Agony Unleashed hosts classes. Both are specifically for new players with low sp. There are options.
There are good reasons for the requirements that old corps have. There are corps even in 0.0 that are willing to recruit those with less time in game. All about trolling the recruitment channels + threads.

There are more than two types out there, including long-running, small, independant corps.
Keep looking, you'll find some. Talk to more people. Your welcome to look up my info in game for an example of corp that does not fit the "standard" molds.
Good luck to you! ~ Santiago Fahahrri Galactic Geographic |

The fact that your only a month old is the main reason you're not going to get recruited/accepted into any 'elite' corp. Time in-game and SP requirements are used to weed out bored teenagers from 'true' dedicated players. You can complain all you want, but there is nothing unfair or discriminatory about that.
BTW, there's nothing stopping you from missioning/mining and training in the NPC corps. I quit out of my first corp and spent 4 months in an NPC corp, and now I bring nice skills and ships to the table with my new corp, and made sure it was rhe type of corp/ppl that I wanted to work on a daily/semi-weekly basis with. Experience and knowledge of the game does count for a lot with most corps.
If nothing else, you need to have a flexable approach and say "Hey, I'm new.. but I'm willing to learn anything.", as apossed to "I want to be elite..". Most corps want team players, not flakes and over-sized egos. Most ppl in any corp with likely have loads of more experience than you, and don't want to around somebody with a big ego and delusions of grandeur.
So keep training, talk to ppl, and be paitent. Good things come to those who wait and persevere.

Looking at the in-game sov map right now the pickings are pretty slim in terms of a laid back alliance that doesn't suck but still takes younger players.
Usually the good corps have requirements like : You must have 20 million SP in combat skills, be able to fly a T2 HAC and required to be on Vent at all times.
I haven't seen a corp in ages that was like "Yo let's all fly t1 frigates and cruisers and go on a killing rampage until we all get podded."
Sad to say this but Faction Warfare is prolly the best corp to join right now for a new player. PvP when you want, mish when you want, no %30 taxes, no pompous ******s. ---

If your corp bio is true to its word (and I have no reason to doubt it) that's a really interesting concept.
And yes, I derailed the thread.
To the OP, keep looking. There is always a corp out there for you. However, do not have high-expectations or tons of wants/needs. If you need to experience all of Eve, check out Eve University. They will help you on that road.

Edited by: Wyvver on 23/03/2009 17:35:52 Edited by: Wyvver on 23/03/2009 17:30:30 Sorry if it came across wrong, Im not looking to join a 'elite' corp, quite the contrary.
I'll be absolutely honest here now: I'm the average guy, who wants to play together with others and have fun, but who has widely varying online times, and always values rl more than ingame time. I dont want to be forced on TS and I dont want to spent the next year alone grinding missions ingame, until I can finally join one of the bigger alliances/corps.
I cant believe those small inactive corps are all that is left over for casual gamers in eve ^^
I'm just suprised there doesnt seem to be corps for the masses like in most other games. You know, the laid back corp of mostly casual players, but with enough players that you most of the time find others to play with if you have time.
