Early Saturday morning a wormhole entrance collapsed on XD as we were entering a newly acquired wormhole in Bahromab.
XD had just finished scouting the new 0.0 system and discovered 5 outposts - a virgin system.
We quickly returned with two ravens (Golem and Navy issue).
XD jumped first and the entrance simply collapsed.
During the next 36 hours XD disabled two outposts and destroyed 21 Sleepers of all sizes.
Running low on missiles, XD acquired a newly opened wormhole and jumped through to Amos in Metropolis.
XD returns with a wealth of tactical knowledge and a cargo hold full of undisclosed Sleeper loot.
Basic mission specs:
Based on previous experience, XD's Golem was equipped to fly both combat and scout roles:
- Deep Space Scanner 1 Probes and Launcher (minimum 4 deployed to acquire warp lock on wormhole entrances)
- Missile & targeting range of 220 - 250 km
- Active / passive tanking throwing out 45,000 - 48,000 effective HP
- MWD delivering effective minimum 925 m/sec (for raven class) to out vector, out run sleepers at a distance, (close up this speed is way too slow, as sleepers will employ MWD immediately)
- Max passive tanking skills, and active tanking mods
- Cap recharger mods and rigs so that you are cap stable using MWD, Shield Booster and all other mods for 30 sec emergency power.
Tips: 1. Scout and bookmark the sleeper outposts with a buzzard or similar covert ops ship first (because warping in to a outpost from a scan, even when choosing "100 km before target" puts you right on top of the nest and into immediate grief.
By scouting first with an MWD fitted buzzard you warp in fast and move out fast to a safe bookmark range of 200 km.
2. If you do find yourself within 50 km of the nest, warp out and bookmark as you do, so the next time you warp back in using the bookmark you've made, then the "100 km before target" feature will actually work.
3. A Golem, with the role bonuses to missiles and active tanking, can easily take on 6 sleepers, (the number generated after two rounds of sleeper battle from a range of 200 - 225 km).
Beware though, "Awakened Upholders" (spawned usually after first two waves of sleepers have been destroyed) have a reach of 210 - 215 km with a laser strike of 850 HP per blast even with dread invulnerability mod, damage control ll, and lVl 4 shield resistances and lVl 5 tactical shield skills. Cycle rate of laser about 4 - 5 sec. Seems to be EMP.
4. In most cases, the Golem achieved 250 - 300HP per missile against armor and 850HP against structure from range of 180 - 210 km (effective combat range against most variety of sleepers).
5. Sleepers appear to adapt to combat style by the third wave - spawning in XD's experience longer-range, even deadlier, more aggressive sleepers.
6. When a sleeper is primaried it attempts to move out of missile range for self repair when armor drops 75-80%. It also seems that one - two more sleepers will advance in its place with apparent MWD bursts to block the final death blows in this situation, particularly when you reach spawn level three.
7. Blowing up gun batteries will not yield any loot, so if you are marooned save your missiles for the fight. Gun batteries have a range of about 100 km and can be deadly for cruiser class vessels.
8. If there are outpost guns then sleepers will not move too far from gun batteries. If there are no gun batteries, then prepare for a running battle and keep the distance at least to 100 km. (Less than 100 km and all hell breaks loose in a pitched battle).
9. During two days of engagement in and out of the nest, XD was not warp scrammed a single time. If CCP reads this post, then expect a change in programming.
10. In the final analysis this is a "sleeper mission". Go in with the right skills, the right ship, the right attitude and the right tactics and it can easily be done solo.
11. Now if CCP could spawn "Pirates" in wormhole space . . . .

I can confirm without a doubt that Sleeper frigs can and do scram and web. Of course they need to get pretty close to do it but they absolutely will given the chance.

The easy sites don't scram or web. The medium sites dont scram. The hard sites do both.
CCP change the programming!!

I am positive we were not in a "hard" site. Pretty sure it was labeled as an "Unknown" site so (relatively) easy.
I watched while two friends, one in an Absolution and the other a Nighthawk, tackled a Magnetometric site. The Absolution had to warp out and the Nighthawk got scrammed by two frigs (both were scramming him). He was dying fast and getting very worried over Teamspeak but luckily his drones had good luck and killed both frigs. The Nighthawk escaped but barely. He had like 70% structure left and left his drones behind (poor little guys...was sad).
I watched the whole thing while cloaked nearby.
Maybe it was the Mag site that got us the harder frigs...I dunno. No question they scrammed though.

I have a freshly sharpened knitting needle for that bubble you live in. A virgin system (ie. one rarely/never visited) will have up to 20 anomalies, sometimes even more. You want to find a wormhole within a wormhole and head deeper into W-Space, an anomaly scan there will blind you like a cave dwelling hermit's first visit to Las Vegas
Otherwise an excellent collection of data, well done and much appreciated.
