I'm looking at starting a another char, and thinking if going full Gali drone boat?
Will this work? or will i still need rail guns and such for a main weapon?

You can fly several ships very using the high slots for utility and only having drones for DPS, but you will drastically reduce the number of ships you can fly, and some on some whips you will lose a lot of options.

Nothing wrong with doing this. The Vexor and Dominix don't need rails/blasters to do decent dps. You can run level 4 missions in a Dominix without any guns. Sadly, the original poster missed out on the Gallente soldier build that started the game with Drones V, and could immediately train Drone Interfacing.
I went this route specifically on an alt I trained for capital ships. When I got into a Thanatos, I had < 50K skillpoints in Gunnery. I've since trained various Gunnery skills up for my Moros.
You can always train gunnery skills later on.

Depends if you're planning to do any wormhole PvE. Drones don't fare very well against sleepers. For PvP and mission rats drone-centric will be just fine. You don't even need rails - large neuts are devastating PvP weapons, and for missions drone links, salvagers, and tractor beams are probably at least as useful.

You don't need railguns or blasters to fly Gallente droneboats at all, you can fill them with salvagers/tractor beams, RR's, or neuts, and still be effective. These ships don't need turrets (though some like the Ishkur function better with them since there's nothing better for their highs)
Ishkur, Vexor, Myrmidon, Ishtar, Dominix; essentially one ship for every ship class can run without turrets and rely on it's drone boosting attribute. Even the Imicus frigate makes short work of level 1's using it's 3 light drones. Drones can be a bit skill intensive; Scout Drones V, Drones V, high level Drone Interfacing and high level Combat Drones are necessary to use drones effectively, so don't assume that it's a slice of cake. Also, some degree of skills will be required for high slots, even if it's as simple as Energy Emission Systems IV. Suffer not the insufferable to live. |

Edited by: Marcus Gideon on 25/03/2009 14:21:10 I started Gallente Spec Ops, and had a rediculous amount of Drone skills. I think Soldier was more Gunnery skills.
Since I have them in abundance, and they are remote controlled awesomeness... I use drones a lot.
I can solo L4s in my Domi, doing nothing more than warping in, drawing aggro, and using Salvagers/Tractors to clean up after the drones. Most will point out that pure drone DPS can take a bit longer to complete the mission. But I've never taken so long that I missed the time bonus. |
