Just installed apocrypha via wine and when running it I get an error saying my card doesn't support shader model 2.0, but I'm running with an radeon x1650 pro. Any ideas? ---------------------------

I'm having this problem too, but on Intel 945 integrated. Ran fine under Vista, but Ubuntu + Wine = error message. I'm trying to make the switch to Linux, so I'm anxious to see a solution for this too.

what driver are you using ? I tested old premium on x1650xt when I still had it, ran fine except gates and station models in space. --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

I'm using the open-source ati driver atm...

From my experience, nVidia are basically the only video cards that will run Eve properly under Linux.
The drivers you are using are probably not supporting Shader Model 2.0. Update them, try out ATI binary drivers (if they ever work) or get a cheap nVidia card (like 9400) and it will run.

got an intel cpu/nvidia gfx system and an amd cpu/ati gfx system. from my experience it is no problem running eve under linux with an ati card. using Athlon64 X2 5000+ EE with a HD4670 based gfx card. wine 1.1.16 patched, catalyst 9.2 drivers. planning to test 9.3 soon.
never heard of anyone using the open source drivers with eve successfully though. at the moment the official catalyst drivers are the only option l know of. for my card they work perfectly. good framerate, everything renders fine. no glitches, no hassle. it's a rock stable system
l do not want to challenge what you said though. generally nvidia is still number one when it comes to linux. you just have to make sure you buy the right card for eve. some models also need wine patched. 9400 is a good one of course.
radeon x1650 pro has got the hardware support for eve though. so if you already got one and are not afraid to patch and build wine manually: it's definitely worth the effort. see the sticky for this.
if you don't want to it's just as deathlords says. buying an nvidia card that supports wine without patching is the way to go. ________________________________________ the drowning man who climbs on your shoulders to save himself is understandable-except when you see it happen in the drawing room.

Hi everyone,
I see the same thing under Fedora 10 using an AMD 780G desktop with both Catalyst 9.2 and the Free drivers and using an Intel 965 laptop. The Catalyst drivers report support for GL_EXT_gpu_shader4 in glxinfo. (I forget the result on the others.)
I've reinstalled a few times following the various checklists, using fresh .wine directories each time. I've never run EVE under Linux before, so it could very easily be some sort of error on my part.

I've just done a new fresh install of the client on ubuntu x64 8.10, wine 1.18, nvidia 177.82 (9600gt) and I'm getting the same message as the OP...
Was working nicely in crossover until the latest patch, which mysteriously killed icon pictures.

that's your problem ... you have to use ati proprietary driver for any serious gaming --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

I'm pretty sure the problem has to do with the patcher and not the shaders. I have noticed that they are using the patcher to determine if you have correct video card support, and if you haven't installed appropriate program in wine to get the msv??80.dll files properly installed, you will have issues (oddly enough, eve doesn't do this). I can't for the life of me remember the program, but it is covered in several of the threads dealing with the patcher. ________________________
