Im running missions in my Paladin with Tachyons, yet i get a lock and they always miss. I swear, my drones kill everything and i dont hit a thing. is there a certain range i should be in? im coming from a missle raven where range didnt seem to matter.

Assuming they are not orbiting you but either approaching or moving away.
20 km+ for shooting battleships.
30 to 50 km+ for cruisers.
50km+ for frigates. --- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs |

Edited by: NoNah on 27/03/2009 13:45:56 Read the tracking guide, while in optimal the further away the better since their angular velocity will decrease relative to their absolute velocity. As mentioned in the other guide, pulses are highly recomendable for the paladin, if you salvage. Make sure your opponents fly straight towards you, parallell to(in the same direction) or straight away from you, or as close to that as possible.
If you still experience issues make sure you have motion prediction 5, fit tracking computers and maybe even a target painter(not recomended due to cycle time, but will increase your average damage using both drones and guns).

If they're not orbiting everything inside optimal is the same chance per ship(per signature radius) Parrots, commence!

I actually fitted a Phased painter to the build, just need to hit the right range for stuff. I would enter a mission and everything was like 23km and shooting at me. I shoot back and miss, even after painting them. I didn't know I need to be in certain ranges for things, this helps alot.
I was always so used to being in a cnr sitting motionless and shooting at everything regardless of range. I was spoiled I suppose. :)

I sometimes use Tachyons on my paladin with a shadow serpentis tracking computer and a faction web and ive popped frigs at 15km, make sure you web anything that gets close (invest in a Gall or True sanshas web) you shouldnt really have any problems with anything bigger than a frig, i one volley blood/sanshas BC's at 15km with amarr navy multi's and stay away from Gleam it sucks i only carry Aurora and AN Multi's
Also train your Motion prediction skill to 5

It should have been 4 before you even thought about buying a Paladin.

You don't have to be at certain ranges. Ranges doesn't matter AT ALL, as long as you're in optimal range. The only difference there is at what speed they orbit. If you orbit at 700m/s and just a meter away from the point you're orbiting you'd almost make a hundred laps around that centre per second. If you do the same at 100km away it'd instead take you 90 seconds to just make one lap even though you have the same speed. That's what angular velocity is all about, how many laps per second you can make. If they're approaching you and not orbiting that's automaticly at 0. Other than that it's just signature radius and optimal range that matters. There's no different ranges for different ships, however if you fire in falloff AND tracking is an issue AND signature(Granted they're teh same formula now) you have three chances below certain, rather than two if only falloff and tracking are the issues, but the ratio is just the same. Parrots, commence!
