Ok, I am soon going to be partaking in a T1 Frig (T1 modules) 1v1 event.
Now I am what you might call 'carebear' player and hebce have little PVP experience.
I was wondering if anyone has any advice they can give me.
My main is Gallente and has pretty high Drone skills... medium Gunnery and agility(cant remember the skillset name).... hardly any missile skills (I could train some but got less than a week). Oh and fairly good armor tank skills.
I was thinking Tristan as a ship but would take any advice I can get.
I just want to put up a good fight against my corps more 'millitary' members, and retain some honor for the indistrial people.
Thanks in advance for any nuggets of PVP gold.

Use an Incursus, with rails. It's fast, has a decent buffer and does relatively good damage at extreme range.
3x 75mm Gatling Rail II MWD, MSE, 20/24km scram PDU, tracking enhancer hobgoblin for drone
I know it's not cap stable, just pulse the mwd to stay at range and you should be fine.

You want blasters on an incursus.

Blasters or not, I believe the OP stipulated T1 modules. -------------------------------------

I don't fly gallente or use drones much but from what you've said about your skills it may make sense to pick the fastest ship you can that's got a drone bay, fit a mwd and overdrive injectors then stay out of range and let the drones do the work?
Be prepared for having your drones shot at and be ready to withdraw them then re-engage.
Just a thought

T1 Gallente frigates can hold and use *one* light drone, with no spares.

Imicus holds 3 but you have a valid point. Bit of a scandal that gallente don't have a frig drone boat.

Confirming that, if the tournie does not call for any warp disrupting modules, the below setup is guaranteed pwnage.
Punisher, lolol
Lows: DCU I SAR I SAR I (Dual tank? OK...) SAR I (Now you're just ****ing with me. )
Mids: Tracking Disruptor I Small Cap Booster I
Highs: Small Nos I 3x 200mm Autocannon I
[Disclaimer: The poster has never flown the above setup, does not ever intend to do so in any real combat situation, and cannot vouch for its effectiveness. Seriously though, 3 reps ought to be enough to tank any T1 frig sporting T1 guns, especially with the tracking disruptor messing with their orbits. Maybe the Cap booster will last you long enough to kill the other guy? )

Well, they do, but it's T2. Imicus Looks Nice in EFT, but it's paper thin, and If anything gets you into range, you're very, very dead. Would Suggest an ion Incursus, or, if your Missile/Rocket Skills are okay, a Tristan. It can tank quite well, but can be a little tricky to fit T1.

The Incursus is generally your best bet. Problem is that at a T1 frig event there will be some "sniping" frigates with MWD. Could try the following :
[Incursus, Incursus MWD] 200mm Reinforced Steel Plates I Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
Warp Scrambler I Stasis Webifier I 1MN MicroWarpdrive I
Light Ion Blaster I, Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster I, Antimatter Charge S
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Hobgoblin I x1
Needs some named modules to fit however or a 3% CPU implant or downgrade to Electrons (if rules are that you cannot use named modules). If you do not need to fit scramblers, go for a tracking disruptor instead.
