I'm working on creating the perfect mining battleship fitting. I have all the skills and finances for a Dominix and a Rokh, so my question is; which should i go with? Which BS would give me the better overall yield per minute, assuming optimum upgrades?
Sample fittings and suggestions are also welcome.

I mine in my maelstrom now and then.
The biggest problem is that with 8x Miner II your cargo is full in one cycle. so you have to fir alot of expanded cargoholds to it and have a hauler close by.

Edited by: Fulton Actual on 30/03/2009 16:34:38 Edited by: Fulton Actual on 30/03/2009 16:32:36 The Rokh is the highest yielding Battleship Miner. It can edge out the Domi because it is possible to fit an extra Mining Laser Upgrade on a Rohk, and even then you will still have room for a bit of tank.
As another poster pointed out, a Rokh with eight Miner II's, and upgrades rather than cargo expanders in the lows, will fill its cargo hold more that once per cycle, so you will need to fire four of the Miner II's all at the same time, and then fire the other four about thirty seconds later, so that you can have time to drag out to a waiting jetcan.
Hope this helps.

who cares? dozens of Hulks are popped everyday
Rokh is the best mining ship after Hulk/Covetor. Too many people use the Osprey on early stage, this is the same but for advanced class

A Rokh with 8xModulated Deep Core Miner IIs with Astrogeology and Mining at V and using 4xMining Laser Upgrade II will net you 3700m3. I think you'll be either 1m3 above or below that of a Covetor's max yield.
You will need to fit a T2 CPU Booster in the last lowslot and you'll need a 3% CPU implant, but then it will fit. You'll be left with just enough CPU for a Survey Scanner but that's it, but that is all you will need in high-sec.
Advantage is you don't need to train Astrogeology V AND Mining Barge V to get a good yield after the Retriever, a Rokh is essentially a Covetor without the Mining Barge V requirement, although you'll need to use jetcans or secure cans and stagger your miners.
With Mining Drones you can probably hit 4000m3. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

The key to a mining battleship is not MLUs, it's your choice of targets. The best mining yields are from mining rats with guns or missiles, not zapping rocks. And for that purpose the Abaddon and CNR are among the best miners.
Please note that a rock mining BS can not be AFKd, so you might as well be hosing down the rats with ammo. As a bonus you get better standings for tax-free refining, LP for various implants and a whole lot of ISK.
You can find some very solid CNR, Abaddon and Dominix fits over in the missions and exploration forum.

First you said about using 'Deep core miner II' fitted Rokh, then as advantage of mining BS you mentioned no need for Astrogeology V which is simply not true, cause its pre req for DCM II. Mining barage part is pure truth though...

I use a Hyperion to mine with.
8 x Miner II's in the High slots. 1 x Survey Scanner II, and 3 x Cap Recharger II's in the Mid slots 2 x Co-Processor II's, 2 Mining Laser Upgrade II's, and 2 Cargohold Expander II's in the Low slots.
With my Hauler giving a Mining Foreman 5 boost, gets a fairly good yield per minute without filling the entire hold.

I believe he was discussing two completly different points. Point 1: The only real advantage of a BS as a miner, over a barge, is in skill requirements. Point 2: That being said, they CAN have a very high yield, especially fitting MDCMII's.

The Rokh is the way to go if you wanna mine in a battleship... However, as it's been mentioned before you have to keep the lasers in 2 groups out of sync and move the ore to a jetcan roughly every 30 seconds. It's mind-numbing enough to make it incredibly tempting to create a click-and-drag macro... - Always be Happy, Never be satisfied. |

What he said was you didn't need to train Astrogeology V AND Mining Barges V. If you want to use the MDCM IIs, you still need Astrogeology V but you save the training time on Mining Barges. You need the appropriate level of Battleship skill to fly the ship (Caldari Battleship III for the Rokh) but there's no need to go beyond that. It'll save you some training time.
But yes, you do a LOT of click/drag cargo movement in a battleship. I used to mine in a Rokh; I had 8x MDCM IIs on it with 3 Erin MLUs, Coprocessor II and a single Expanded Cargohold II in the lows, and I had to run my lasers in pairs. Two lasers gave just under cargo capacity of the ship. Now, I only had to move cargo every three minutes, but it was still a pain. If you used four MLU IIs in the lows, you'd need to move cargo 8 times every three minutes. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |
