Soo... I've been in battleships for 2-3 weeks now, I've only flown the Domi and I do okay in the L4's with my drones and medium rails but I want to know if I could be doing better.
Messing around with EFT, it seems that the Domi just isn't made for large guns, which is funny, because it's your first taste of a ship that can fit them (Yes, I know it's a drone boat).
Sorry, I'm at work so I don't have EFT available, but my fit goes something like this:
DCII Power Relay LARII EANM x2 Specific hardeners x2
AB Web Cap Recharger II x3
250mm Prototype I Gauss Gun x6
Drones
This fit leaves me with half Powergrid and half CPU available, but I really can't get more than 3 large guns on there.
Does anyone out there have a successful fit that includes large guns or is this the norm for a Domi?
I'm hoping to learn something interesting.

Dominixes cannot fit large guns as easily as the alternatives - it loses fitting space for the drone bay.
However the fact that you have such problems fitting would seem to indicate that you just don't have very good skills.
You can get 6x Electron Blaster Cannon on there, along with a MWD and LAR

Try to fit Dual 250mm or 350mm rails. Dual 250mm fit twice as easy as 425mm by powergrid. Also yes, Engineering V is a must for any pilot. Also I might drop the web for another Cap Recharger. 250mm you have to be in closer so you will be running that AB alot more and if you are chasing after a ship that orbits farther than your optimal you will be lined up, so no need for tracking. But then for missions like Damsel in Distress where they orbit so close the battleships run into each other you might want to fit a web.
Honestly though, in a domi your best damage boost will come from drones. T2 Heavies and Drone Interfacing V is almost required to compete with any other mission runners. Drone Interfacing is a godly skill, very few skills give 20% to anything per level(Only 5 come to mind and one is the Fighters skill).

If you're fitting for PvE, Suggest you chuck Salvage Gear, and maybe Nos/Smarts and a Drone link Augmentor in There. Swiss Army Dominix is Win in L4 Missions.

Shieldtank it and you'll be able to fit 425mm II on it. With a bit of money (about 120 mil for dead space/faction modules so it fits with 4 TS PDUs and has a nice tank) you can have a quite good permarun tank and 800 DPS up to 60km (max dronerange), and 1k at AM/Garde range.

Get Engineering and Electronics to V, Weapon Upgrades to V and Advanced Weapon Upgrades to IV. Dominix can easily fit 5* 350mm Railguns + a decent tank on it.

I'll take another look at the fittings and I'll try the duals to see what I come up with. Right now I'm not having a horrible time with optimal, switching between faction anti-matter and faction thorium.
I only have 5mil SP so there is a lot of room for improvement but I do have Engineering V.
I was just curious if there were good setups that maintain the same tank while successfully fitting a full rack of large weapons.
Oh, and about the 4th cap recharger, I do pretty well alternating between my AB and armor rep, I can manage to get about half an hour out of my capacitor, even though it isn't cap stable, it's close. I feel naked without the web.

A few posts snuck up on me while I was writing my last reply.
I see how shield tanking would work, but I just don't see myself spending the time right now to train up the shield skills.
As far as Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades, that's something I'll have to work on in the near future.
And I forgot to mention that I just finished training Drone Interfacing IV and am working on my T2 Heavies then T2 Sentries... that'll take up some time for sure.
I appreciate all the info. I'll be playing with EFT for a little while when I get home.

5x350mm + drone link and a faction repper should fit with eng V and AWU 1, if you don't ( which I guess you don't ) have AWU then either go for all 250s, or a group of 350s and a group of 250s. Slightly split optimals suck, but that'll encourage you to get the skills to fit all of the bigger one :P you can get 'em near similar optimal with different ammo ofc.
Not even tried 6 gun setups, I like my sentry range. Amarr repper saves 300 grid and rocks too, helps your fit if you're lower skilled. I'd swap your web for a drone upgrade, probably the AB too.

There's only one reason I'd fit Dual 250mm railguns on a dominix instead of standard 250mm railguns, the large hybrid damage bonus. Even then I'm not sure I'd use them due to the medium turrets having equal range, superior tracking, and a superior signature radius thereby making it a potential toss-up between whether the effective DPS of the 250mm railgun equals that of the Dual 250mm on a dominix. It doesn't on an unbonused ship but the extra 5%/level bonus to rDPS might result in the eDPS of the duals matching or exceeding the eDPS of the plain 250s.
That being said, it's pretty easy to fit six large turrets on a dominix as long as you're willing to be creative.

Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Ogre II x5
This thing puts out a significant chunk of rDPS and while it's slow it'll tank well enough along the way to survive until it reaches most targets.
I only post this setup because it's fairly workable and a pretty fun style of flying when you get used to it and want something different from the standard, "I have a bunch of guns/launchers/drones that shoot out to 1400km so I don't have to move" style of mission running.
One thing I would recommend, however, is that if you try a short-range style of ship like this you invest the money in a Republic Fleet 100mn AB and a Domination webber. It'll set you back another 100-120m or so but they'll be worth it.
Considering how out of date that setup is for my own personal usage this is what it would look like if I used the modules I've got available right now: [Dominix, New Setup 1] Brynn's Modified Large Armor Repairer Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Shadow Serpentis Magnetic Field Stabilizer

Slightly faster, somewhat better tank, and a bit more rDPS while having a longer-ranged webber to keep it from having to chase ships that much farther ____________________

Edited by: Master Invictus on 30/03/2009 06:59:00 Having flown the Dominix on level 4 missions for a loooooong while, its best quality is deffinatly the drones and the massive tank meaning it can take quite a serious beating. Id most likely fit something along this line myself:
[Dominix, Somewher near My Old Fitting] Large Armor Repairer II (running continously) Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Large Armor Repairer II (used only when the AB is off) Capacitor Power Relay II

Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I Auxiliary Nano Pump I
(Choose mission specific drones ofc) 6x Ogre I 10x Hobgoblin I 5x Hammerhead I 5x Warden I
(Use the AB to get range on the rats, and use the angular velocity to make sure you hit them a lot more often! Remember that just the fact that youre moving in most cases mean you will take a lot less damage And staying at range helps aswell... The Small Drones vs Frigs will chew em up good and quick if they get too close.)
But if you still want to go with the webber and want some bigger guns this might be more up your alley: [Dominix, Small fitting] Large Armor Repairer II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Capacitor Power Relay II Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer I
Domination 100MN Afterburner X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II

But if you really want to use guns, get a Megatron or a Hyperion, you'd be a lot better off for guns.

Try to get your hands on Dread Guristas 350mm Railguns. They have the same damage and tracking as Meta 4, but have a bit more range and most important, need less powergrid (1688 vs. 1875).

Cheap, effective, takes some decent skills, but will do level 4s pretty much on snooze mode.
2 LAR IIs 1 DCU II 1 EANM II 3 Specific Hardeners
5 Cap Recharger IIs
5 250mm Railguns 1 Drone Link
2 CCC rig 1 Aux Nano rig
I have flown this setup for almost 2 years now doing lvl 4s, I don't really burn through them fast but it's solid and gives me time to run the salvage boat on the previous stage/part/whatever. Also make sure your using the drones that maximize damage type against the NPCs.

I rarely try to get more than 4 large hybrids on a Domi for missions; the LAR and the AB take up too much fitting to reasonably fit more than 4 guns, and I actually rather like having the utility high slots (drone link, salvage gear, the occasional smart bomb, etc.). I've tried dropping the AB and using a fitting mod to get 6 guns on, and even though I could kill some battleships more quickly, missions took longer overall to finish. Besides, a large fraction of your DPS will be coming from drones anyways and if you fit your ship and fill your dronebay accordingly, you'll be doing plenty of damage even without your guns.
I'm something of a recent convert to the Sentry Domi for missions, and I do really think that it's the most cost efficient PvE battleship in EvE. It does require more practice, more attention, and more training to be really effective, but I'm loving it so far. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

-drones hp bonus -drones shield regen bonus -drones damage/speed/tracking speed bonus

It's clearly a drone ship, i don't think you wold be happy having a drone bonus on your raven instead of the cruise/torpedo one.

Minmatar battleships are perhapse more qwerky the most expensive teir 1 has less skills + less dps but large guns and the cheapest more dps + skills to learn unable to fit the factions heavy weapons hardly at all.

The bonuses are quite fine as far as I'm concerned; even though I usually only fit 4 of the 6 turrets for mission running I do that by choice, not by requirement (i.e. choosing to fit rails instead of blasters, fitting an afterburner, and not fitting a powergrid mod). Many common PvP fits, however, will run with a full rack 6 of battleship-class blasters in addition to its powerful drones. In terms of raw firepower, a properly flown/fitted/skilled gank-Domi will do more DPS than a comparable gank-Mega. The bonuses fit in perfectly with the traditional Gallente bonuses and should be left alone. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

I'd like another utility high for another drone link, but meh no big deal.

Yet people still use drones on a raven, despite the lack of a bonus, whereas the domi using turrets helps it much more. for PvP I've always been a fan of a few guns and 2 nos and a neut, can be surprisingly effective despite such a goofy setup.
