Prior to the deep space probe change, finding the wormholes were easy. Granted those probes were a bit overpowered since I had no use for combat probes or core scanner probes. I could do everything with the deep space probes.
Now once I am in a wormhole, finding additional wormholes has become a lot more of a hassle. Especially in really small condensed systems where you get so many results and none of them specify wormholes.
Any tips or tricks you can recommend to help facilitate the process?
Anyone else think there should be maybe a wormhole only probe, or an option to set probes to find only wormholes and not the stinking extra sites that come along with it?

The first (and only) wormhole op me and my flatmate went into the wormhole collapsed behind us, then we went and did a perimeter installation.
When it was time for us to go back, I found a wormhole first time. No more than 15-20 minutes tops.
That was with Core Scanner Probes too.

With a couple of scan rigs on an otherwise combat-fitted ship (HAC or BC), it should take you no more than 5 minutes to warp to each successive signature, assuming that you are also chatting in the fleet channel, sipping from a hot cup of tea or nice glass of cognac, keeping one eye on the TV, and on the phone to your mother reassuring her that yes, you will get a job soon and you are meeting lots of girls, but no, there are no grandkids yet.
Actually paying attention should halve that time.
After you warp to each hit, it gets a flag in the solarsystem map view.
Using 7 probes as a triangle of 8AU ones around the inner system and the actual tetrahedron of 4 for warping too should keep all your hits on the map, which in combination with the flags should let you exclude things you've already done fairly easily.
Yes, it's dull to go to the thirteenth unguarded perimeter gravimetric site in a row. Persevere my son. If the game was easy, just anyone could play, and you don't want that, do you? --- Some days you are the pigeon, and some the statue. |

Tip: notice the average signal strenght of a wormhole and you will be able to filter thru the results fast.

I use 4 probes and really dont go past 8 au on range takes me about a hour to scan a down everything in the system right now ive been stuck in w-space for about a week trying to get out still no luck and atleast 7 systems fully mapped out |

This is an excellent way of repopulating your map after scanning down the whole system after a log for those who live in a wormhole to see what has despawned and what still exists..... but they repopulate the minute you attempt to warp to them, so you can cancel warp and it still populates the map entry, which cuts the time investment by a ton.

To start off, search around planets. Sigs won't spawn more than 4-6 AU away from planets so 4-5 probes set to 4 AU will cover it all.
It's very easy to rule out which sigs that are wh's. Wormholes have a very high base signal strength, so don't bother scanning down anything but the 2-3 sigs with the highest strengths.

I call BS an ye.
I've found sites/gates along the orbit for planets , as far out from the planets orbit as 8 au.
Oh and when I say in its orbit I do mean that the planet itself was on the other side of the system at the time.. and since this was one of the outer planets it was a 30-40 au distance from where I found the sites.
Ofcourse it isnt normal but whspace doesnt follow "the rules" that k-space does. not when it comes to site placement at least. "Subtlety is a thing for philosophy, not combat. If you're going to kill someone, you might as well kill them a whole lot." - Vulcan Raven, The Last Days Of Foxhound |

highsec wormholes have high strengths, the nullsec wormholes i have found have a much lower strength. i.e. i can get a highsec wormhole at 2au and nullsec at .25au

Well I've been inside w-space for more than a week and every day when the old exit wh collapsed I've found another and it has always been within 4 AU of a planet. So at least for wh's, it probably very unlikely.

Everyone is complaining about this. I've had zero problem so far. It basically just a process of elimination, even if they are very close to one another.

its not hard at all, i scan most wormholes in a matter of 10 mins

It's not hard at all. It's just tedious as hell.. like mowing your lawn with a pair of pruning shears. Exploration went from being far and away my favorite activity in the game to something I avoid like the plague.
I'm actually going to take a break from the game after this month's subs run out specifically for this reason.

Edited by: Nyota Sol on 01/04/2009 19:17:34 I vaguely remember all the vets crying about how the new system was too easy. Now that DSP arent overpowered, vets realize how tricky it is to scan down things in crowded w-systems.
It's tedious. Pay attention to signal strength patterns.
The best trick that i know of is to mix active/inactive probes while we wait for some type of reasonable response by CCP. ___________________________________________

Seems like the only stuff you need is some remedial work in reading comprehension. Sorry, can't help you there. |
