Been thinking about basing out of wormholes off and on for over a year. Looking for advice from some WHS vets.
What do I need to get started for living in wormhole space? What kind of things should I prioritize in my cargo hold? How many toons do we need to execute? What size POS should we use?
Thanks in advance.

If you are just starting out there is many possibilities depending on your numbers.
If you have a fair few people (20 active or so at peak times) a c5 wh might interest you.
However if you are small scale and want to learn and earn then a c2 or c3 is good for learning, c4 as well but c4 is a bit more difficult to manage due to not leading to k-space.
You will need at least 1 pos, fuel for a month. 1-2 scanning ships per member.
First time hauling in you should be concentrating on mostly pos + fuel + defences and any ammo/nanite paste you need. Do not worry about bringing in loads of ships at once because it is a sure way to die and lose everything.
You are looking at at least 2-6 people for a c3, alts as well if possible. Never have everyone out of WH with no one there incase someone derps the chain and you cant get back in. So best way to go about it is 1 person + 1 alt at minimum.
I suggest using a large pos with a crap load of E-war.
You will also need some sort of collapsing ship, for c5 and below you will need an orca or freighter at minimum, some bs and a hictor. Everytime you dont like my comments/posts the terrorists win and your a disgrace to your country. |

Was just contemplating an idea: How feasible is it to operate out of a cloaked carrier? Understanding the person with the carrier would have to be online to do it is a disadvantage, but an untargetable infrastructure is pretty attractive. Has anyone tried this.

I'd suggest starting out in a c2-c3 before you move up to a higher class wormhole unless you have fairly experienced combat pilots. This is because you can do any site up through c3s in a passive fit drake, which is readily available to a number of early pilots. Also, if you start in a high-sec static it's easier to work your logistics until you get a feel for rapidly probing down things and keeping fuel on hand.
C1: Easily soloed by Cruisers/Battlecruisers and T2 variants of any ship. C2: Easily soloed by Battlecruisers/T2 variants of Cruiser+, T2 frigates in Wolf-Rayet Class C3: Soloed by Battlecruisers/Decent T2 Variant of Cruiser+, pref. Strategic cruisers or Command Ships C4: Soloed by pimped Strategic cruisers (slow), or 2-4 manned in reasonable time (10-20 minutes). C5: 5-10 man gang tengu fleet, smaller with cap ships (can be done solo by Substantia, but she's got a pimped tengu and too much time on her hands) C6: Not sure exactly on sub-cap numbers, but I would say 5-10 capital ships + support to make things run smoothly and time efficiently (I have no experience in C6s).
So from that list, pick whichever makes sense for your corp, and go with it.
As far as a tower goes, I would say don't use UNDER a Medium sized Control tower; small towers are just asking to be bashed. If you're in a C1 and you drop a Large Control Tower, it will probably never die because nobody can be bothered to take it out unless they don't like you.
You should only have ammo and probes (if applicable to that ship) in your cargo hold.
I wouldn't work out of a cloaky carrier; cloaky orca can be fine, although really I prefer a tower.

I personally lived in wormholes for 6 or more months at a time solo in a C2. All the advice here is great, but do yourself a favor and bring in a logi as well. If someone ever does pick on your tower or mods, you'll need to rep them, or if someone tries to reinforce you. Plus it'll be nice after the tower onlines to rep it's shields up. I ran with my main and two alts. Most anoms were quick and easy.
I'd suggest making a full stront bay a priority. Also, be manufacturing your own ammo. You can go a full month or more if you're manufacturing your own fuel and ammo in the hole. It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. If you see a shitload of Proteuses, the big boys are having a goodfight. |
