Makes perfect sense, in other MMO's you can't advance 2 characters on the same account at the same time, so why should you be able to on EVE?

I agree. But if they offered it as a paid option I would definitely go for it!

Not a bad idea. Maybe for the cost of 1/3-1/4th of a regular account you'd be able to train an other char on the account.

In other mmo's it doesn't take the same length of time to reach a highly functional state.
The real reason behind it is to encourage multiple accounts. The extra character slots are a complete waste atm because your main character could be training the same skills.
Imo, in order not to be harsh on CCP's wallet, the partial payment method should be offered. This still won't allow you to USE both characters at once, but you can train 2 at once.
This makes perfect sense for someone that wants a market alt or a trade alt, but still makes a second account useful for more ambitious traders, miners (in many cases) and more ambitious market alts.
A compromise for those that want to more quickly (or less painfully) spec into a different races ships, or have an alt to log in to for casual market trading.
I have 4 accounts myself. At various times I have swung from all 4 open to just my main. At this point I have no reason to ever open number 4 again and very little reason to open number 3.
So in my case, offering to let me train a trade alt on my main account could increase my payments to 1.5 - 2.5 accounts. Otherwise I will simply do without, or decide that I am satisfied with my mine/refine capabilities for now and trade skill my industrial alt rather than reopen my "trading" alt on account number 4.
I bet a lot of folks are in that position.. just not being able to justify another $15 a month for a tiny convenience, in a game, but possibly willing to go for $4 or maybe even $7.
Perhaps it would be wise for CCP to place a questionnaire at the log in and do some research?

Keep thinking that, the less people know how to use them to great effect with little training, the better
And there's no way CCP is gonna get more money out of allowing multiple characters on the same account to train skills. There might be a few exceptions, but mostly people will drop their extra accounts and just use the one (or two if they have more than three accounts).

Edited by: Ghengis Tia on 07/04/2009 20:02:03 I've been playing 22 months, have my main at 18m SPs, a mining/production alt at 8m, and an exploration alt at 4.5m.
They can do level IV's with ease, mine with Hulks, and fly covops into wormholes for exploration. They're worth 5B Isk in cash, and probably 3-4B in assets.
All on one account.
If you're in this for the long run, you can develop your characters in areas of specialization. You gain a wealth of experience to give you the cunning and mastery of skills and ships that will serve you well in Eve.
Of course, if you have no patience, you're going to spend a lot of time broke and waking up in a clone vat.

It seems to me that one of Eve's draws is that it is not the same as other MMOs. So using precedent to justify the decision isn't a strong argument.

Edited by: Reandom Traas on 08/04/2009 04:02:29 First of all, this is not Neopets. When you post, and want to be taken seriously, post with proper English, not IM material.
I wonder how many times this subject has been brought up? EVE is the only MMO that also lets you take any character any direction at any time. It does not matter what you have learned in the past, you can always change your mind and take a different course. In other games, once you have become that Uber magician, you have to start a new character to try a different experience. Not so in EVE.
Training on alts would also destroy the viability of careers some people have chosen. If everyone had a manufacturing alt, a research alt, etc, then the profitability of those careers for those that specialize would vaporize.
Any character in EVE can do any job, but to really excel at it and make ISK takes specialization. As the system is, it is better for me to purchase most items I use from industrialist characters, therefore supporting their role in the EVE economy. If I could train one of my alts to do it for me, then it would lessen the degree that I am dependent on other players. This IS the root of what makes EVE what it is. Some mine, others manufacture, some day trade, others pirate. The fact that with only a small amount of training any character can do any job, but to really succeed at a job in EVE takes specializing, is a beautiful thing.
Would you really want to change what makes EVE EVE? It does sound logical that you should be able to train all 3 characters on your account, but when you look at the ramifications, it does not pan out.

This.... u said it mate.
My main is for starters a soldier/gunnery specialist. But i love the fact that i also could train him to be a viable miner when i feel the lust and need to do that for myself or my corp/alliance.
Its actually a good feeling to know that i can learn my beloved main whatever i want without needing to log on alts just to do fifferent kind off stuff.
First time i tried to train an alt i got a real wtf experience when i couldnt train him, but it took only minutes to understand why. It would have been all too easy.
Been meddling around with alot of MMO's the past 6 years but now i finally feel i found THE mmo for me. EVE is special and i love the way it works.
Let EVE be EVE and never try to make it into a mainstream mmo.

Yea, because i can train (adv) laboratory ops twice on the same character? I enjoy having spent 2 weeks not training on my alt to have 2 chars with 10 lab slots each.

Look at it this way....
The main reason for people wanting this is so they can play the game, but also skill up on their other 2 charachters at the same time to sell them.
