Hi everyone, ive build a tiny tool to reposition eve clients when they are in windowed mode.
What this thing does is reposition the windows so the client window of the eve client is position on the top-left corner of the screen, that means that the window title and the left border will go out of screen.
Hitting the button 'Colocar todo' will make it so your eve clients will seem to be fullscreen while in windowed mode, without touching anything else, and of course with the fast switching ability of windowed mode, i know is a pain, i've got 3 accounts :)
If you dont use your screen resolution in your eve clients they will simply go the top left corner and not fill your screen.
I've found mouse problems while trying to resize the eve client to resolutions not in the eve configuration dropdown combo, so ive chosen this method as it is the one with the best results.
This tool is free, ISK donations are of course optional.
Maybe if i'm in the mood i'll make it so the tool goes to the windows tray.
The tool was made using VC++ 9 and WTL.
Let me know about any problems you may find. Regards and fly safe.

Still waiting for EVE to have a scaleable windowed mode. Kinda fed up of being locked to a specific size of window.

hehe, I ShiftWindow was made for exactly this purpose a while back (I'm using it now). Of course it doesn't work with Vista, so if yours does, congrats!

I didn't know about ShiftWindow, if i had i probably wouldn't have build this app, dunno, didn't try it.
Concerning Vista i cant guarantee that it works as im using WinXP, so if anyone has any problem with Vista please let me know.
Any way, after looking at the screenshot i can tell you that this app is much much smaller and simpler to use.

What is this application supposed to do? Other than locking windows in a certain position it achieves nothing.

Yes it does, it sets the eve window to fit the screen as if it were in fullscreen. You have to set your windowed mode eve resolution to the same resolution of your windows screen. Without it you will have an eve client (or more) that its out of place because of the window titlebar and window borders.

Edited by: Doktor Feeelgoood on 05/04/2009 08:01:38 Looks good. Will it work with multiple monitors? My problem is that I dual client with 2 different screens. One monitor runs at 1680x1050 and I have an Eve install that uses that resolution. The other monitor is 1920x1080 and I have a second client install that uses THAT resolution. What I have to do right now is start Evemon, set it to position client on screen 1, click the client so it moves, then start my second client, set evemon to position to screen 2, click that client so it moves, while being careful not to click the first client, and then disable Evemon's moving clients at all. What a pain in the arse.
I'll try this out tomorrow.

If there are no complications by using the dual monitor setup, you just will have to start your clients and click on the 'set clients' menu option in the system tray.

Sorry Pharago, I was just really slow however this still achieves nothing as the Windows Bar at the bottom of the screen still disappears as your little programme maximises this. If this programme could scale to show the bar whilst keeping the screens windowed would be great success!

You must press ALT+TAB to switch between apps.
As a side note, i tried to do what you said when i coded it the first time, but i discovered that somehow the eve client dosn't handle mouse coordinates as the rest of windows apps, and because of that (and falcon) it dosn't translate mouse clicks on their correct position on the screen, making the game unplayable; another problem with custom window sizes was eve screen blurring, at least on LCD panels.

That's exactly what i need but for some reason, when i have more than 1 clients running and one of them (or both) are in windowed mode, my pc lags like it was pentium 1 or something. If i go back to both fullscreen on them, its great.
It didn't happen with Windows XP. I don't remember with Vista. I'm on Windows 7 beta at the moment.
Anyway, thanks!

This sounds like a driver problem or your PC isn't up to the task. What's your CPU?

Thanks for the attempt mate and a shame that EVE is coded in such a way.

Well, there are a number of reasons about the why eve is made the way it is, as games tend to use their own way to handle mouse control among other things, i'm sure there is a simple explanation about eve's mouse handling and that the effect seen while trying to use custom window sizes is just a byproduct of it, after all, eve resolution should be only changed from it's own configuration window.

TBH I wonder why the EVE client does not do this by itself. What's the point of using DirectX fullscreen mode when you can just create a screen-sized window without decoration? DirectX fullscreen mode only causes problems...

Thanks for your concern, but i think i'll stick to my app, as it is smaller, faster, easier to use, and it is made of one single file of 70kb that does not need installation.

the trouble with that is, you can run at your monitor's current (usually max) resolution, and have bits of the client off-screen, or, you can run in a lower resolution, and have empty space around your client that's going to waste.
Personally, I play most online games in a window, and the ability to scale windows is nice to have.

Eve Launcher works just fine in Vista, just run the program, setup your clients, and just use the game icon to launch instead of the eve launcher launch button. It will run your clients in the windowed mode you need. _______

Just to balance the pros and cons a bit:
Smaller---yes, you have 70kB, I got 740kB. I'd say the difference gos 50:50 to runtime libraries and user interface (I have one)
Faster---Let's see, how is "manually rightclicking in the tray bay and selecting a menu option" faster than "doing nothing"?
No installation---Actually your tool requires the user to find and install some archiver that can extract RAR. And then to actually place the extracted EXE somewhere it can be found again. Mine has an installer: download, run and done, including start menu entry. (And it's a single EXE, too...)
Easier to use---As long as the user has one EVE and one monitor, it could be seen both ways. You have a rightclick and a leftclick, I have a leftclick and a drag&drop. On the first run. On the second run, you have rightclick and a leftclick, and I have ... nothing. ;)
When using multiple monitors however, you lose. (by (a) moving all EVEs to the first monitor and (b) by not removing title bar and window borders)

Has it learned to remove title bar and window borders and not to stretch the window to full display size since I last tested it?

Oh wait, is this some kind of competition? Because as far as i'm concerned this tool has every thing i need from it, so i don't care who wins.
This is a free tool, free as in beer. If you like it fine, if you dont, stop bothering me, plain and simple. I thought i could share it, and thru the forums solve any problem others might have with it, end of the story.

I've always wondered, why do people use RAR so much? As far as I've seen, all it does is annoy the crap out of people who don't know how to use it. And you have to buy the software in order to compress with RAR, unless you pirate it. And if you pirate it, you might as well go with 7-zip which is just as good and free (as in both beer and speech) software to boot.
