I've heard eve-metric's upload tool gets it's data by reading logfiles created when you browse the market.
Where are those logfiles located?

i think if youre kinda clueless at this Point then you probably wont have success anyway reading the cachefiles since they are kinda "encoded" ;)

Spot the guy talking balls. There's an Export button on the market window when you look at an item. It creates text files in 'My Documents\EVE\logs\Marketlogs', they're quite easy to read.

Yes, Eve-Metrics does read the cache files to get the data from any market lookup you do, without you having to export the data.
However, if you're not a programmer then you won't be able to decode those cache files and therefore you'd be better off using the market export files as described by Irongut above.

I was planning on making a small program that would do something useful with the data. I've already done something similar using market exports but it quickly gets boring having to click the export button all the time.
I know quite a bit about programming but I don't even know where to start here. Anyone willing to give me some more hints on how to do this? :)

Sure. Try to change amount of units in one of your armies in HMM3 save file. When you succeed, you'll probably be ready for dealing with EVE cache files.
P.S. No kidding. This has nothing to do with "quite a bit" of programming. It's the thin art of data mining and reverse engineering. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

I realize this might be very hard but what about the eve-metric uploading tool? Has the source code been released? Has anyone else but eve-metrics achieved the same thing?

I'm pretty sure the licence that comes with crude.dll says 'use this outside of our app and we'll come break your legs and shoot your puppy'*, did this change? As that's the entire reason I started down the path of ripping open the files ourselves, I mean if we can freely use crude.dll, we can pack up and call it a day
