I am a new player I got the game 5 days ago. I have just started to learn level 4 and 5 skills. Sometimes I find they take ages to learn. do they take too long too learn.
and I must say this is a great game.

Some skills take ages to train (almost literally). However, you shouldn't be training level 4 or 5 skills that early in the game. Get to the market and read some skill descriptions, you're gonna need a whole lot more. My recommendation is to train skills to level 3 before you need higher levels, i.e. frigate 4 to fly cruisers (which you shouldn't to this early either ).

Yep..what he said ^^^^
I had over 20 skills prior to my first level 4....why I chased the basics..Mechanic, Engineering, Learning (all of them), etc.
First skill to drive to 4 was Frigate...after that...many more...
Trust me start Production Effiency 5 (for example) it will take ya 3 weeks or so to complete...

one must keep in mind that theres no XP or anything... that all non-asset character progression is in the skills.
some skills take soooo long. thats just how it is.
though I must third their sentiments. don't bother even thinking about level 5 on most that stuff yet. heck I'd only bother with level 4 at where you are, if it was something you REALLY wanted.
in the future though... you'll do skills that take a week, or even several weeks of training.
oh... and before you ask, Rank never changes. its a set in stone attribute for each skill. its a difficulty modifier, rank 2 takes twice as long to train as rank 1... ect.

learning skills deffinatly help out, mine are all at lvl 4 at the mo and will one day be lvl 5. my alt is just about to learn lvl 5 Gallente indy and that will take around 24 days, so yeh some skills do take ages.
i seem to remember somewhere reading that to get every single skill to lvl 5 would take something like 10 years, tho i tihnk i might be remembering that wrong. eith er way, dont expect to learn every skill to a high lvl, not unless your here for a very very long time :) -------------------------------------------

if your training to lvl 4 already...........
take the time, bite the bullet, train all the learning skills except charisma to lvl 4 ASAP
first and foremost.
it really saves you a lot of time .......... down the road
after that train your more necessary skills to lvl 3 atleast
after that you should go back to those four learning skills and train them to 5 as soon as you can.
safe bet to say when advanced learning skills come into it ......... you will most likely need your learning skills to 5 anyways.
train learning to 3.....then intel to 4 mem to 4 and back to learning 4 then the others.
mem and intell help you to train the engineerng and energy skills as well.
perception and willpower for gunnery/ ship skills. you can't fly many ships yet so not a real biggie but will help with gunnery skills.
I would try to concentrate on making yourself more power and grid and energy first and then making it more efficient second......then start training some gunnery.
I know it's hard to concentrate that much on learning this early but if you can and your planning on playing for over 4 monthes........way worth it in the long run
