I don't get this. This agent sends me into the middle of an astroid field I can't mine, and the only way to complete is to mine from that field. How do I do this?

There's asteroids there, you're just not seeing them. Set the overview to Default -> Mining and they should appear. (click on the white triangle to get overview options)

When I do that, I see random astro belts, but when I warp there I can't find a thing.

e: the trick was to double click "overview" and find it.
Hmm, looks like a bug. Petition it as stuck. But first doublecheck your overview settings and see if veldspar is set to appear on overview.

OK,
First make sure the roids are on you overview (loadin Defualt mining)
Second, someone else could have mined the ore out (or not im not sure if that mission would be findable)
Third, just BUY the ore. (Agin Might not be possible anymore, but used to be)

Also helps to fit a survey scanner. It'll let you target any asteroids in range.

best tip anyone could give you about mining missions is....dont touch them unless you have no other option to raise standings.
any other activity in the game will pay way more.

i just did that one , the roid is just big enough to give you the ore you need and its just above the big usless roids above you in the picture.... good luck

Right click the icon in the mission description, add to overview, it shows up.
