Usually everything on max settings (AA off) and had a solid 60fps (locked). With new effects the fps went down by 1/3. In a mission like "The assault" i topped up around 40 fps. Disabled missile effects, back to 60fps.
Also noticed more cpu/gpu usage with new effects. Also confirmed by ear, since the VGA fan starts spinning like insane. Missile effects on - cpu 80% - gpu 90+%. Missile effects off - cpu 50% - gpu 40%
Could we have a selection like: no effects old "glowing orb in space" style effects new missile effects.
Rig: E6500 4gb ram 5770 1gb
Can someone else confirm the performance hit also on their rigs?

Yes they are a bigger strain then the old. Yet my rig is overkill so I don't see a differance unless tripple boxing. But I would lower graphics at that point anyway. a off, mid, and high missile effect would be nice. But keeping the old math around for the old grphics may just be too much of a burden when the host is trying to tell your client how to render things. |

Seeing no drop in fps with all settings maxed, think it is very rig dependent (i7 920 at 4gig 6gig ram and a 5850) |

Strange thing is that last Sisi build is using more cpu/gpu than TQ build. Still, performance hit like this means something on Sisi is using more HP i guess. |

my missile impacts are showing, launch puff is showing. whne looking VERY carefully against the sun i can see little missile needles flying, however can't see the cool exhaust trail. while i run a crappy dell laptop integrated graphics, I can run eve on High LOD and high textures and medium shader, doesn anybody know the problem? |

correct. smoke/fog/clouds are big hits on performance. This has caused issues on tons of FPS games but most of them do not give you the option to turn them off completely as that would give the player an advantage. Smoke has never been an issued before in EVE because they did not have any so I doubt CCP will include a graphics setting to where you can turn it off or lower the quality.
CCP devs should know smoke can be a performance killer as it's common knowledge so hopefully, they tested it with and without smoke to check how it performs. On holiday. -áIn some other world. drakeblobs are really going to feel this, but big fleets tend to turn off effects anyway. As for missions, this will be less of an issue when CCP eventually get around to redoing them with fewer, stronger npc's. |

It affects a single mission runner noticeably, FPS drop, and increased GPU usage, fans spin like crazy. Now imagine a fleet battle, where the only choice is to turn off all effects.
A performance hit like this makes all work pointless, bcouse i would rather turn effects off then look at stuttering FPS and GPU hovering around 90% (barely 50% before) with GPU fan sounding like a hairdryer. |

Id be willing to bet this is why they never did this before http://www.bioone.org/doi/abs/10.2317/JKES0811.17.1 Bees That Drink Human Tears -- ITS SCIENCE!!! |

I LOVE the new launchers but i like the old missile effects more than the revamped ones, also theres less performance hit. Keep the new launchers but old effects. Make the massive smoke trails optional please. I'm running dual 6970's with 8 gigs ram and still get signifcantly lower FPS with the new effects. |

So for multiboxers the new missile effects have an interesting "feature".
I often run side clients in system map view to avoid crashes and get better performance.
Well, what happens now is that when you exit map view, you get all missile effects of the last x minutes/hours "displayed" at once, which in practice means a
solid several minute freeze of that client.
At least if you did a pve site to watch the pretty missiles on your main client window in peace, meaning there were a lot of missiles flying during maybe 20-30 minutes.
Possibly it's turret effects too, impossible to tell.
This is with every graphics setting minimized or disabled.
What's even more interesting is that this happens even after warping off grid, in which case no missile effects are displayed, but client locks up regardless. |

Happened to me too, only I was testing with a few rockets, and when I quit map-view I just got a few rounds of small explosions on my ship. Not a big deal for me, but it looked wonky, and I can see how this becomes a problem if you fire hundreds of missiles when in map-view |

Its hitting performance ingame, its confirmed, and its noticeable. Maybe its smoke, maybe its the hit effects....dunno. All i know is that SiSi build goes down to TQ cpu/gpu usage once i turn missile effects off. And that's a lot.
I didnt wanna use CQ since 90% Cpu/Gpu was pointless for no gain in productivity (only eye candy), i like new missile effects, even put cruises on training just to have some fun with them. But with this performance, i am looking to buy a new GPU or save money and kill the missile effects. And i am not swimming in cash right now.. :(
@Sigurd For me on: E6500 @2.93ghz HD5770 1gb 4gb ram Win 7 x64
its a noticeable hit, at least 1/3 of FPS drop. And 5770 is around 4850 range, so you with weaker card are gonna have even more issues...and that is sad. I loved eve when i could run a client or 2 and barely notice cpu/gpu usage, now i have a reactor meltdown :(

Sometimes, when I undock from the station, I get to see some of the explosions from bombs and missiles that happened while I was docked. Looks pretty, but I'm certain that it's not intended. |

In the mass test yesterday I warped to the POS bash a little late, after many had started shooting it. My client dropped to a very low FPS, like 1 frame per minute. Eventually I had to re-log to get it working. It could well be this same bug: It was trying to display old missile effects/explosions, and could never get caught up. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I tested with effects, EM/termal/explosion are ok, some fps hit but playable, shooting something with kinetic makes a transparent shock wave, on 1 ship i was shooting my fps went from 60 to 20 when i was looking at what i was doing, namely the ship i was shooting. Kinetic effect is nice, but taxing like hell on hardware. |
