I know a few people have been keeping tabs on the game in the forum, whilst browsing gametrailers wibble site I looked upon trailer for said game.
Imho, it looks as though it has gone for a very shallow form of gameplay, which isn't too bad if you just want a quick bit of action.
Unfortunately not much can be gained from the video, which is a damn shame. It's obviously not going to be an eve beater, more of a casual affair than a second job/life
Will probably give the trial ago when/if it happens just out of curiosity.

Edited by: Irida Mershkov on 09/04/2009 15:04:33 Gotta start simple son, the space backgrounds and station detail aswell as the planets are stunning, the music beats EVE's out of the water too. It kinda reminds me of Sins of a Solar Empire. I'll be trying the trial out for this.
PS: The Asteroids in this game are nice too.
Edit: From the trailer I can imagine this game lagging out, very, very quickly.

Looks interesting. Will have to try it when it comes out. Its difficult to say anything about lasting value but I did get the feeling of wanting to try it.
See what a big difference having good background graphics make? Eve needs this too.

Looks pretty interesting, will try it out when I can get a trial. But that PSIIIIP sound everytime they click on a menu... so frustrating.

Doesn't seem to have any real depth but looks like a bit of quick fun. And of course, very pretty.
Lasting replay value won't hold a candle to Eve, though.

To clarify i bring you this bit from the FAQ
Quote: Yes, Player vs. Player combat will play a big role in Black Prophecy. You will be able to engage other players in different kinds of PvP missions and battlegrounds. Player vs. Player combat will also be an essential part of the gameÆs endgame content.
AKA, No non-consensual pvp.
It's a carebear game.

summary: nice looking, maybe fun twitch combat, total carebear game, instanced missions, all in all absolutely zero innovation, a horrible UI that will make you want to claw your eyes out with a rusty spork with the massive fail radar and target acquisition that made me actually lol irl being the cherry on top. verdict: **** game.

Might actually try this. It cannot be worse than WoW and it might give me something that can drag people into the spaceship genre "gently" before forcing them into Eve.

Impressive visuals and sound, game play would need a thorough run through before making a final judgment. From what I've seen though looks half-way decent at worst. Planned on dropping eve this coming renewal, thanks for the tipper.

Graphically it does look great, hopefully some day we'll see environments that in Eve as they really do add give areas a certain something.
Gameplay wise though it seems to just be "WoW in space", nothing new, nothing terribly impressive or innovative. Probably good for a short term pick up and play but I couldn't see myself enjoying it long term.

This is one of those games that depend entirely in customization depth.
Diablo 2 was a carebear game, but it rocked (and does still) because it's top quality, and more specifically because characters are deeply customizable, both graphically and regarding gameplay.
This game looks like based not in WoW scheme but more on guild wars'. Guild wars vouched for customization but relied too much on quantity and not quality, and completely left behind graphical customization options, which killed it ultimately.
If this game brings both types of customization to a good enough level, I might very well get hooked. Everyone loves to have a ship completely different to anyone else's (which, saving t3, is something EVE lacks, altough it compensates with a great number of ships and styles), and that on it's own is enough to justify a carebear game scheme, as long as it's not too centered on grind. Everyone here confuses WoW with these kind of games, which is really wrong, because WoW lacked any kind of customization whatsoever.
TL;DR: I wouldn't say it looks short-lived because of the instancing and BGs. There are plenty more reasons a game can last for long and some of them are present in that trailer, so my advice is, wait and see, do not let it down so soon =)

Gameplay trailer: Not really that interesting looking, looks like a poor freelancer clone to me. The graphics are shiny though, I'll give them that.
Cinematic trailer: bet they were drunk when they hired the voice over guy. Seriously,It's one of the most lame voice overs I've ever heard. Day of Darkness II blows it out of the water, hell it triple Doomsdays it FFS. The 'Fendahlian Collective' strikes again |

Edited by: Daelorn on 10/04/2009 18:26:26 I wish EVE had more of the look BP has.
System wide asteroid fields (That you couldn't shoot through, would make missiles useful in combat in these areas). Bumping looks more fun in BP Stations among huge asteroids around planets Hopefully they'll revamp how planets look in EVE soon.
