Did you all listen to what the guy in the trailer was saying? How much of your ability to do those things has been nerfed? That's more important than all shiny trinkets & colored beads, imho.

nothing has changed other than the damage effects and some of the missle trails
they looked nice yes, but god they lag you out _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

Come on, shiva is a few weeks away.. probably graphics will be updated somewhat.
One thing is on the wishlist at least, Make the apocalypse explosion bigger! I mean it looks like a small 'pop' compared to some of the cool npc explosions.
Makes it also much more satisfying to see it go KAWHRUUOOOMHRHMRMM instead of 'pop'.

Edited by: Ris Dnalor on 27/08/2004 19:25:19 Or how about this one? requires quicktime or something that can play .mov files.
http://eve.skjalfti.is/trailers/eve_high.mov
right-click & save as, then play it at your leisure.
some things it brings up...
five playable races.... ;)
ingame messageboards??
follow the law or choose to ignore it? :):)
granted it's an old promo... joves are coming... the new browser will make in-game messageboards possible.... & you can still ignore the law, assuming you're ok with a guaranteed ship-loss out of the deal, lol.
i've noticed these trailers imply ( or did i infer? ) a vast amount of freedom, however it's been nerfed away in favor of safety & security for players & their assets. That's sad, at least 0.0 should be returned to a more dangerous state.

Some things I see... You can get transparent windows like that now, its just one of the options in the upper right. Also, under graphics unclick 'letterbox' to get the full screen effect.

give ur oppinion about this,
Do u prefer the graphics nowadays or in the video and what do u rather see in eve?
imho i would see the stuff in that video especially those missile trails looks cool or the missile exploding graphics.
Freelancer did a similar changeover, but you can download the old graphics commands and patch it if you like.
Both CCP and Microsoft dumbed-down the graphics for rather obvious reasons.
Both the old versions almost came to the point of requiring hardware T&L. Freelancer dumbed down for one reason: it is lag-prone under the XP environment. EVE dumbed it down becuase, I'm sure, of packet size.
Which would explain the exception errors.
That also explains why comets and such are being saved for Shiva.
With so many people migrating to using laptop computers and mass-produced crap computers (like E-machines and similar models) you have to assume people who want to play the game might be using the GeForce MX series, or the earlier mobile Radeons (if not SAVAGE or RAGE chipsets). Both sets DO NOT SUPPORT HARDWARE T&L, which would make rendering the old EVE and FL a nightmare for anything but the most modern laptop or shop computer. You don't want to force potential subscribers to buy $150 worth of RAM to compensate (one of the problems with SWG).
You also have the KISS philosophy (keep it simple, stupid) that prevents packet collisions (exception errors already mentioned).
Remember: you can make EVE look like something from a Star Trek holodeck, but you'll only get 5 fps if you do, and I'd pick performance over pretty in that case.
However, some of the weapons fire sounds like the Sega Genesis version of Starflight. When I fire a Heavy Neutron Blaster, I would expect to hear a multichannel static "Fzzshoom" vs. the duck quack into a tin can wrapped in styrofoam we get now. Graphics are great as they are, CCP, but if you need help with new sounds i'll be glad to contribute. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

ingame message boards were in the beta (they were actually a part of the station ui) they took it out because it added ALOT of lag on the server.

I agree with the point that the graphics was propably downgraded to allow slower comp, but a little correction all geeforce cards have hardware t& l unit , the mx serie doesnt have pixel shader and vertex shader, but thats another thing, not requiered by eve.
Anyway i tried once playing on older comp with p 3 700mhz and gf 2 ti , it was nearly unplayable....

You ought to hear what Dual heavy Pulse lasers sound like.
The sensation is similar to pounding nails into one's ear.
I practically have to mule Eve if I'm going to be able to hear anyone else on TS while I'm running those things. 1400mms had a nice, satisfactory sound effect to them, and autocannons just sound sweet.
