I could find no official word on this so I came here with my question, sorry!
Some days ago I watched a guy in local offer duplication of items, which for me sounds like the classic fake dupe promise that ends in theft seen in so many games.
In said games it did not only end in theft but very often in ban. This is the point I would like to clarify. Under eve politics, is it considered illegal to promise the employment of a hack, or the breaking of any game rules, as long as it's completely false and justified with a scam?
If this is illegal, could the scammer be creative enough to save himself from the ban arguing he was making use of "sci-fi terms" and that the duplication of items he promised was nothing but the access to a special cloning vat inside the game (which, of course, doesn't exist)?
Thank you in advance.

You do know there IS a Duplicating skill in EVE? What did you think it does? Fortunately I have Duplicating IV and I managed to get my hands on a Molecular Sequencer. If you like, I can show you how it works. Contract me any reasonable amount of items (worth >= 100 mil or I won't bother) and I will give you 1.5x the amount back.
For 200mil I can tell you how to find a Molecular Sequencer and the skillbook yourself.

It's like they didn't even want people to have to go rat or mission run for items. Yikes. But then again there are also anti-cloaking pulses and warp scrambling drones in the database too.

Was that sad weak troll or did you just not grasp that Feilyma was demonstrating that you can do a dupe scam with out breaking the rules?

Interesting material. Is that widely used?
Thanks.

Petition it, make sure you say "duplicating items" at least four times.
If it's not in the standard GM FAQ, your answer will be a cut & paste from the regular scamming section i. e. "Scamming is allowed" with no mention of exploits. Then escalate.
That's what I'd do anyway.

Simple.
Send him stuff and if you get it back, he's found a dupe mechanism and you can report him. If you don't get it back, you've been legitimately scammed. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I was commenting on the shortsightedness of CCP regarding this type of item and its effect on markets. That was it. Obviously the module is not actually in the game, but it's in the database so it must have been considered viable at some point.

I believe the boundary is that which demands real life currency.
So if you announce a character sell but don't do it properly you're gonna get banned.
If you charge real life money for an in game item that's a no-no whether you deliver it or not.
IF you advertise for something for ISK but don't have it, don't want to give it up, or you falsely describe it, then that's okay, and I'm sure this goes for 3rd party applications such as hosting where the customer pays ISK (in game currency not the Icelandic version), for a service that doesn't exist.

Alternatively it was put in because some dev[s] thought it was funny and there was never an intention of it ever being in game.
