What's appropriate to defend the POS in a C2 system with a static high? Should I have capitals ready to fly within the POS? Or does the mass limit for ships jumping in pretty much mean an offensively minded large POS would be safe just with the POS weaponry?
I guess I have a second question as well. Someone could fly in and setup a POS of their own (though they couldn't bring in capitals to my understanding) and I should be ready to go on the POS offensive. I know I need at least a dread but what would you ideally have? Would 1 dread , 1 capital, and 4 T3 cruisers take out a large POS or would I need a lot more ships, remote reps, etc? |

Best defense for lower class wormholes is lots of ECM.
If someone sets up their own POS then best bet is to have dread and call in some friends to help as well. |

if you have a moon that doesn't have an active pos at it, they can set up a pos. orcas and battleships can enter and leave a c2, but freighters and up cannot. you don't need capitals to take out a large, but if you have enough battleships, 15+ with ganglinks, you can take out a deathstar pos if there are no people to defend it. if there are, you are looking at needing 60+ battleships with ganglinks and replacement ships. you can take out a large pos with just 4 T3s but it will take a few days of non-stop shooting. if they have capitals and support, it could take a few weeks of constant fighting.
if you have recyclable spy alts. (everyone has them because of chronic backstabing disorder), it could be as short as an hour. |

loads of ecm on your pos. if you can build a dread and tiarge carrier and have a few web lokis (and some ships with painters on) you can hold off a huge bs fleet and win (yoru dread pilot will also have the time of his life).
Only thing you woudl have to watch is them setting up there own pos and building dreads in yoru system and i have heard of 1 well known group having to do that to fill a contract and seen it happen a second time, but thats really rare as unless you want toi live in that wh the dread is wasted after they killed yrou pos |

I guess it all depends how long you plan to stay in the wormhole. You might be able to get away with a medium tower for a short stay, if you minimize your structures and maximise the defences.
For longterm, you'd want a large tower with at least 6 of each type of ecm, plus tons of defences. Then even more, offlined defences. These can be onlined when the others are disabled in an attack, and also help make your tower look more scary. The more overkill the better tbh. Be sure to maximize your powergrid so that you have as many online as possible. In a Class 2, with the mass limitations, you wouldn't see capitals, so they'd need a significant fleet to take on your POS. Someone would need to be very annoyed with you to bother with that sort of hassle.
The risk of a ninja POS setup is always there, and if they succeed, they could setup a similar POS, and go on to build capitals. Though again, they'd have to be very angry with you, or really want your system for some reason. The cost and logisitics to build capitals is high, would take alot of hauling (Which you could hamper), and even then it takes like a week for it to finish building. For all that effort, would probably be easier to just attack the POS directly with a large fleet.
You could of course, build lots of capitals yourself, but they'd be trapped in a c2 forever. Fine i guess if you plan to never leave, and would give you the homefield "capital" advantage.
Then of course, there is the debate on the whole "carriers; deterrent or attraction?" While they make your POS look scary, they also attract attention, because absolutely everyone wants a carrier killmail. You'd have to decide on that yourself. |
