Situation - 15 stealth bombers warp cloaked onto solo battleship (who is sitting still despite the local spike) and alpha it. Good fight.
In any other situation, a drake is more useful than a stealth bomber.
If you have like 5 bombers, the battleship will just warp off before you fire your second round of torps.
Against anything other than a battleship, you dont do enough damage if it is moving.
The cov-ops cloak is a lie, since the SB need support to be effective. Guess what, support cant come in cloaked, or even if it can in case of recon, it cant insta lock & tackle.. So the surprise attack is non-existent.
If you wanna deal damage to an already tackled ship, a drake is better. At least you wont die with 2 shots once you decloak to fire. You can also fully insure the ship.
If you're looking into fleet ops, there isn't much surprise going on there is it? Any sound FC would rather have a drake in their fleet than a SB who need to warp out when targeted cause it has no tank and cant recloak.
And so to speak - what's with the "new focused role" anyways?
I've seen ceptors ninja-salvaging wrecks during fleet fight.
Lots of people mine with battleships in hisec.
Assault frigs solo rats in nullsec.
Battle badgers prey on can flipping noobs.
You see a pattern here? We do not want to be limited to fly a ship in the certain way you want us to.
I thought the "sandbox" thing was all about that. And now you impose "a new focused role" upon us?
Why? Why is the sand gone?

I agree. I want to be able to fit a DD in the last open high slot on my hound. It's a sandbox right?

Ok, I'm going to let you all in on a secret, the true power of stealth bombers.
--> Escalation <--
10 people jump into your 5 man camp thinking they're going to either rout or destroy you. They'll commit to a fight they think they can win and then you play your ace.
Your 5 man camp turns into a 10 man camp that they can't escape.
They'll go in close expecting a quick victory, you spider/buffer until they're locked in.
Then you decloak 5 bombers and volley (or two) from ~60km. A volley or two, and then they cloak. And warp to the opposite side of the sphere around the gate, 120km away.
Then decloak, and fire again.
These ships finally have a use, and that's as a strategic DPS boost to tip the side in a battle that would otherwise be lost. They now make a very good "close" to the trap.

So, what prevents SBs using the tactics that frigates have always used when they are fighting battleships?
It is not the sand in the vagina that is the problem, it is having your brains in the arse.

Why can't you warp in range of a point then uncloak and fire on him?
With a few friends one, two strikes and its over.
Is it the problem with not having friends?
Or that you want to be able to sit on a gate in low sec and fire on frigs? You really need to understand basic posting skills. |

You can still use a Stealth Bomber in different roles ...
Even for Mining.
If you really want to ...
However, ships in EVE Online have always tended to work better when fitted and flown according to their specific bonuses. The Stealth Bomber is by no means a special case.

In this fantasy of yours, did you take into account that torps travel slowly, and that cloaking with a torp mid-flight results in torp not hitting jack?
