1. Make cloaking devices to emit faint signals that slowly fades and wont be detected after 7 AU-s. 2. Give us probes that could pinpoint those signals. 3. Give covert ops a module that can pulse out some kind of electronical particles which could decloak everything in 7000 m radius.
Would be another cool use of coverts than only scanning down plexes and wh-s. |

but i like to go afk every once in a while when im playing in w-space or any other dangerous system that doesnt have a station, or when i just dont want to have to dock and undock everytime i go afk.
So a big no to that.

What sense makes a cloaked ship which can be found?

This issue has been brought up several times and only thing people can seem to agree on is that afk cloakers, sitting cloaked in systems for hours while not at the keyboard is bad design. By doing this, cloakers inflict losses on other players while not playing the game themselves. 1001 solutions to this 'problem' has been presented, but none good enough to make CCP do any changes.
I lean towards a solution where your cloak have a set cycle. 1 hour? If you're afk longer than that you aren't really anywhere near the computer, are you? To reset the timer you just have to hit decloak and cloak right up again. And if there is a slight chance you have to stay away longer than that, just log off.

Ok, my grandma calls me suddenly whilst I am hunting in a system and I have to go afk, I cloak on a safe spot. She is talking and talking and talking over an hour (she really like to talk). Finally I can finish the call, come back and sit in my pod. Is this what you want?

finding a cloak ships does seem to be the problem in most cases. if it's your enemy, you can't do anything about it. if it's an ally at least ya know he's working for your benefit. and the idea of a 1hr cloak sounds good, but at the sametime not. I'm usually the scout/spy for my alliance and corp. And sometimes i spend more then an hour cloaked keeping check on things in a system. I can't afford to keep checking my cloak modual to see if the hour is up, cause it can come at a wrong time. thats what i would say.
Also there maybe one thing i can add to this. It could be useful. We know in the cloaking description that cloaks are a time-spacial distortion. basicaly a something that distorts space to provide a cloak. Now what if there was a modual that scanned down distortions within space. lets say 100km range, not a probe. Reason for not a probe, is cause probes is too easy for this type of stuff, plus being cloaked shouldn't be easy to find with a probe. Thats why i'm suggesting a modual that will find distortion within a 100km range and allow you to lock on to them. does it decloak the cloaker, no, but it is a way for someone find a cloaker. also i believe this modual should be placed on ship higher then cruiser, like bc, bs. this would give them a even better role in protecting their base/system/gate.
Only probelm i for see with this is how many ppl will try to abuse this system. so thats why i say you should have a minmum skills of science 5, electronic 5, signature anaylsis 5, hacking 5, survaying 5, and some type of skill for the modual, and that skill for it should decrease the time btw scanning the 100km area by 5-10%. This is coming for a guy who also uses covert ops like crazy. but this would add more exictment in my life when i'm actually scouting out a system for red/negs. -------------------------------------------
I like to hide, then when the right moment comes, i go pew, pew, pew, then i go back to hiding, :) |

i found a solution to that...
Move system if theres a red/neut in it
seriously, all the whining about afk'ing when no-one knows if they are afk and yet all the need to do is move to the next system and see if they follow but no, they'd rather cry on the forums about it like everything else... damn wow carebears!

lol, ppl like to whine though thats there job in life. i see no point in whining. afk cloakers, who ya know they afk. how ya know that they ain't spying on ya while your in a belt mining/killing rats. how do ya know. I'll say just this. don't assume that every cloaker goes afk, you'd be surpise. |

If anything, CCP is moving away from the idea of making cloaked ships easier to find. They gave the Stealth Bomber the ability to use a CovOps cloak, which makes it, well, actually stealthy because it can warp while cloaked now.
Also, if all the OP is using CovOps for is scanning down plexes and wormholes, they're doing it wrong. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

If we had to carry a probe, with maybe only a 2 AU scan range, and required a rediculous skill set to use. Maybe Cloaking 5, and most of the astronomics stuff at 5 as well. |

Cloaking is fine as is.
This is the opinion of the vast majority of players.
Probing cloaked ships will not happen, ever, and there has been much rejoicing because of this.
IF you want to change something, MAYBE increase the decloak radius a bit. If you see WHERE a ship cloaks, it shouldn't be as hard as it is right now to decloak him.

And then we can make a module that would stabilize your cloak so that people could prevent themselves from being probed out. Then you can make a module that disables the stabilization of a cloak stabilizer. Then you can make a module that blocks the destabilization module from destabilizing your stabilizer so you can keep it stabilized so probes can not find you while you are cloaked. Then you can make a module that blocks the blocker from the destabilization module so it can destabilize a stabilized cloak so that the cloaker can be probed out.... and so on.

I actually like the suggestion someone made in the balance thread about a specialized cloaker-detecting ship based on the Destroyer hull, like some kind of AWACS. It would certainly up the tempo of Recon operations, that's for sure! ... Stealth Bomber changes: a SERIOUS LEGAL ISSUE |

They arent inflicting losses to anyone, if someone doesnt dare to leave the POS with a single neutral in system its not the cloakers fault.
The poor design is actually the local chat being abused as a intel tool. And yes, I've had it more than one time already that I did 'play the game' without leaving the system or decloaking for hours.
As long as local is being used the way it is today, we need afk cloaking to even out the field a bit there, if that ratting raven is already 99% invulnerable he can at least be scared a bit

No, that idea is complete trash, as is this thread to be frank.
If you really thik this is a good idea, you clearly do not know how the game really works.
Cloaking is fine as it is.
And afk cloakers have never been a problem, never.

Eve should be risk/reward based right?
There is no risk in 0.0 if you are serious wow carebear with cloak.... NONE at all!
You see like "dsklfhsklfahkl" named players in "sajklhjklsafdslhalfh" corporations, macro ratting every****ingwhere!
Then you come to forums to whine how rats loot table has ruined EVE market and made mining useless...
What about scanning down prototype and improved cloaking device users only?
This whole cloak nerf would just add abit more risk into game and thats all.. more tactics, more thinking (Yes i know the last word I sayed, many people cant do that so they prefer to stay cloaked forever) ----------------------------------------------- Limit cloaks to cloaking ships! The only reason you want 'AFK' cloakers nerfed is because you want to be semi-AFK ratting. Pay attention and you'll be fine. Don't rat alone.

Actually it's the most ridiculous idea I've read for awhile.
If I'm in a system and cloaked close to the enemy, do you think I could get away with uncloaking/cloaking to reset the timer?
AFK cloakers have never killed anyone and pose no problem. (Except maybe in the OP's mind.)

If you see suspcious macro ratters, report them. The problem is not cloaking itself.
And if you belive that changing cloaking will stop macro ratters, you are naive tbh.
They will simply change tactic. They are a pest and plague in every MMO, not just EVE.
The kley to get rid of them is most certanly not to change the game mechanincs for the worse for thoose of us who actually play the game legit.
And macro ratters exist because they actually make a prift, they actually make RL money selling isk. Until the players go legit themself, the macro guys will not go away. Simple.
CCP has taken a setp in the right way with plexes, ensuring the RL money used to get more isk at least go to the game, not for personal RL profit.
And btw, claoking incures a heavy penalty to ships that use them, and are not designed to use them.
And let me sign this post with the nice desu sig:

desu note!
anyways... i've found something slightly more hillarous than cloaking...: immunity from probing. not changing the default shipname is a plus ... just sit in your enemies' sys, turn on your (numerous) eccm and go afk. it sure ruins quite a bit of paid player time while they try probing you. all you need is roughly 1 sensor for every 2m signature. a lil more for good measure. i recommend a t3 ship (with the sensor strength sub) to really get their blood boiling - putting the gist back into logistics |

Instead of being able to find a cloaked ship out-right.
Why not make a ship that has the ability to detect the presence of cloaked ships. But still relying on the standard method of un-cloaking the ship to actually find them.
Me personally, would love to see a T2 version of the Tier 2 BC's.
Knowing a cloaked ship is there, but still not being able to see where it is exactly, i think, would bring a nice new tactic for cloaking ships. ---------------------------- Implement Racial Fleet Setups

stop using local as a free intel tool. be alert in lowsec/0.0. escort your miners. don't play solo in an mmo. set up a baitship.
if the presense of a single red in your system is enough to halt operations, consider moving back to hisec.
