If you ever want to leave FW, you will be disappointed to be Caldari. I would choose Amarr...

There is no benefit to the races per se, but which faction has the most 'active' members?
Don't bother going out in gangs of 5 or less, 5 t1 ships can die to 2 T2 ones piloted by vets easily.
oh and make a trial account and send your alt 50k n00bship pilot into lowsec first to see what is sitting on the otherside of the gate before you lose all of your isk on your first visit to low sec.
Always fun to read people's tears on the forums about the nasty pirates that took all their stuff, but there is really no need for it.

Don't go out with noobs in T1 cruisers anyway if there's only like 10 of you.
The pirates will all laugh when all open fire on one of their ships and don't even scratch it, as they blow you all up for having you cornered with aggression.
But at the same time, don't go out with fleets with more then 40 people if you don't want to end up sitting in a medical clone 20 minutes later wondering how you died after your game went all weird. |

Lots of nonsense advice in this thread. I go out solo and in groups of 2-5 all the time and it's both fairly safe and effective.

I would say Amarr, if you're looking for more of a challenge.
The Caldari are completely dominating in their side of the war (kudos to them!).
The Amarr are winning in their side by only a few systems, and are doing so against greater numbers.

Meh. I suppose it depends on your perspective. The Caldari are completely dominating at capturing and holding war objectives that have no value - strategic or otherwise - and that absolutely no one actually cares about, I guess.
They're only par in total kills, and generally the biggest losers in kills per member, so there's also that.
It would be nice if FW had focus beyond being an excuse to shoot at each other - really poorly designed system.

I'll never understand this, really. The only thing making Caldari not the underdog is the fact that their population is about 56% higher than the next most populous faction. It's certainly not a function of talent or skill.
This means that if you're joining Caldari, the end result is a target-poor environment, which, in my experience, results in a whole lot of floating around space for hours on end with very little to shoot at. I guess some people are into that sort of thing, though. --------------- Faction-Militia:Player-Alliance::Newbie-corp:Player-corp |

You could actually pick any side regardless of the ships you fly, in that the motivations to join a given side are slim at best unless you already have a chosen 'side' for your own reasons/standings.
That said, I can confidently say that if you're in the right time-zones, Amarr is great fun, and we continue to push back the Minmatar heathen hordes and reclaim the Bleak Lands in the name of God.... or something.
FW is great fun if you have the right attitude and fly with the right people. View it as something to make money from and you'll be disappointed (which is not to say you can't). View it as a great excuse to get blown up and shoot other people and you'll fit right in.
I can't comment on Caldari FW much, but in Amarr you'll participate in anything from solo hunting to small gang to fleet combat. Just about any activity that you like can be found - even talking smack on the forums if that's your thing .
Come on in, low-sec's lovely! ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

Go Amarr.. Caldari already have too many people. If you are US time zone then Amarr could definitely use the help at night and us Meanies need some more targets.

Remind me to tell Goonswarm that. It's all down to good pilots and good FCs, not technology & SP. There's an element of truth to the above for new pilots to bear in mind, but an idiot in a HAC will still lose to competently piloted T1 cruisers, and repeatedly do.

Yeah, basically it's people who don't know how to PvP telling other people that don't know how to PvP "Don't go out without 50 people cause you can't beat a PvPer unless you blob him!" |

Have you seen the average militia pilot compared to the average pirate?
Because you sound like you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to militia affairs.
The average militia pilot is a few months old and flies a paper thin couple of mill isk ship.
The average pirate is 3-4 years old and due to the nature of lowsec flies the most expensive and heavily tanking ships + implants he can get his hands on.
The militia will blob because a lot of the time it's the only way it's going to stand a chance at winning because it's the only way to even the odds.
Sure you can avoid the pirates, but they'll make it their business to come for you, why else do you think they hang around in militia zones?

I'm a 3-4 year old (not nearly 3-4 years worth of SPs though, I come and go a lot - about 30 mil SP at the moment) pilot flying a couple of mil isk, low-SP fit Caracal in militia. Solo and in small groups in militia. Sooo...?

When did this become about Militia Vs. Pirates, anyway?

I avoid them all the time. Generally speaking, they won't pursue. They'll either catch you on the gate or they won't. I have not seen very many roaming pirates in FW zones - just the gate camping blobs. |
