Ok this is getting dam ridiculous..EVERY time a patch is release, I have to delete my entire install because the patch ALWAYS corrupts the install.
Typically I can get a good install by deleting the old install and doing a fresh one, because it appear the patches always corrupts the install folder.
However since this last patch I've yet to be able to install on my Windows machine due to corrupted files..
Can you please give me and everyone else whom has this same dam problem a break CCP? I've d/led the full install about 5 times since the last update and still can't get a working install.
It's getting dam old..
One only has to look to 15 pages of people having the same problem..
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1018853
yet never a word from CCP..

Fix the dam installer? The person who installed the dam? Did he build the dam incorrectly?

Considering most people do not have a problem with the patches or the installation, it means there is not something wrong in the files themselves as they sit on CCP's servers. The files are likely getting corrupted during download somewhere on the long multi-step path to you. There isn't much CCP can do about this, unfortunately.

Maybe you should read the post I added in the opening post.. There are many people with this same problem. It also includes people whom have bought the retail box and have to do the patches.

*sigh*
I'll try this again.
First off, having the retail box irrelevant...They have to download the exact same patch everyone else had to download.
Second off, the number of threads on this issue is also irrelevant, as people without a problem don't come to the forums to post. All the threads mean is there is a number of people who have the same problem as you.
Finally, as I write this, there are 31,259 people currently on the server. ALL these people had to download THE EXACT SAME PATCH that you claim to be broken. if the patch was indeed broken, the number of people on the server would be 0, would it not?
Now that we got that out of the way:
http://www.eveonline.com/download/?fallback=1&
and try downloading the full client with bittorrent. This is the full offline client package. Hopefully the added error checking in bittorrent might get you around whatever link between you and CCP is causing the corruption.
Again, if this still doesnt work, there is essentially nothing CCP can do about it...they control a server in London...there is alot between you and that server.

Look I'm not going to debate with you about if there is a problem or not.. I know there is a problem and so does everyone else that is effected by it. If you don't think there is a problem, why bother with this topic?
Yes there is things CCP can do, they can use a different installer. Even if it's 1% of the people in this game that have this issue , that is still 1% of their customers whom are paying for a product we can't use due to a faulty installer.
BTW I have tried every possible D/L link that has been posted and they all give the same issues.. It's not where or how the file is downloaded that is causing the problem.. It's how the installer compresses the files.
Maybe do a little research before jumping to the conclusion that that there is no problem just because you happen to not be affected.

If it is any help I had the exactly the same problem as you and was unable to patch or download the client until thay updated the bittorrent link and I was able to download the full client and install it without any problems. Took 6 days for that to happen. You are correct about the response from CCP, there has not been one, really bad customer service. Give the bittorent link a go and keep your fingers crossed

I personally dont mind torrent links, but i dont want to use a torrentdownloaderthingy that might mess up my upload bandwidth so i cant properly download.

I'll take a wild guess on this one,
Option 1: You got a virus/malware/spyware that is attaching itself to the patch file while it downloads. This corrupts the patch coz the sha/md5 sums will not match.
Option 2: You got hardware that is failing without being critical. (memory/hard drive/network card/cable)
Option 3: Your ISP has some weird scanners/filters in use that send along security check data which gets mixed in. So wait this is the end of my post allready?

Lol, all perfectly reasonable explanations, but somehow I still think the OP will believe that the patcher is faulty because of falcon, because it obviously can't be his pc's fault.
To op: I know it can be fustrating, but the patch is FINE. the 15 page thread you linked to has been accumalating posts for well over 1,5 month now, and issues have come and gone with the patcher.
If you are getting CRC errors, ONE of the options could be corruption on ccp's end. But then no-one would be able to patch. Since thats going fine, check out the guy I quoted. He has three perfectly valid explanations for your problems. _

Why would he do that when he doesn't need to? All that's required to show that the files are fine is to look at the people who have downloaded them and they've behaved just fine.
If you were right, and there was a problem inherent with the installer, then everyone would have the same problem. They don't, so there isn't. The only way for the installer to be broken is if everyone who have installed it just fine has had the file magically be corrupted on download in exactly the right way to fix the issue… Does that sound likely to you?
Or does it sound more likely that the installer is fine, but that something gets broken in the transfer for some people? ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

this is like the empire total war forums where player x's game runs 100% fine no bugs no crashes no nothing. player a,b,c has issues but player x and other people in his camp tell them oh its your pc its your isp its your fault in some way shape or form.
eventually player x and all the people in his camp end up having the same bugs and crash issues that all the other players had been having.
the installer is sporked, i had to dl the entire client off steam and then use the eve-files torrent incremental update, to get my game working at all.
and yes my other games run just fine(expect empire total war and mass effect), my computer is spyware and virus free, its was defragged not 2 weeks ago, my ports are forwarded, none of my other downloads get corrupted but through ccps patcher.
so op and the other people like the op you can all flame and fume till you are going through hoops to patch your games.

btw the game runs fine on my Apple and patches perfect.. It's obviously my ISP though according to the trolls here..
Try reading some of the ideas that have been put forth. Obviously you have a problem somewere, weither its how your downloading the patch, antivirus softwere interfering somewere along the line or something on your end is interfering with the patching. Sure the patcher could be alot better and they could build reduncy into it, but then the only way they could do that is to at least double every single patch that comes out, so instead of downloading a 2gb client install you have to download a 4gb one, or instead of a 250mb patch you have to download a 500mb one.
There are issues with the client and patching, there allways will be when disributing something over the internet, not isp's are the same, they dont all have the best connections and bits of pieces of downloads will constantly get lost for some people while it works 100% for other people. This is why the md5 check sum was invented and is becoming very very popular. Check the check sum on all the files you have downloaded to the ones posted on the download pages, if their the same then scan the files for virus's. I have had virus's attach them selfs to and eve patch before, while it didnt corrupt the patch file it was a shock to see this happening. If the patch is virus free, has the same check sum as the one on the download page and your still having problems run a bear bones o/s, ie no virus scanner, no other kinds of software at all other than the o/s, its amazing how many things can interfer with an install, any program that updates its self can be running an update while your installing and corrupt the install you have done.
You have to realise that yes other people are having problems installing the patch or the client, but you also have to realise that it wont be the exact same problem you are having. Try the things mentioned by other people, talk to your isp and see what they have to say, your paying for their services too and it doesnt seem your geting exactly what you think your paying for from them.
This is also another reason why they say to set long skills just before patch days.

ya i don't know what the deal is exactly, the eve client auto update corrupted the install totally it would not get 15% through the patch process.
i think that day i tried to download and install the patch i needed off this site and that would not work, so i tried unpacking it with winrar and got a crc bad archive error. so after mucking around for a few hours trying to get the game updated i just finally went through steam to dl the entire client all over. and used the link to the eve files update torrent and somehow that one worked perfectly fine. i can't say why some people it works fine but there are alot of people having issues period.

Trust me I have tried every D/L that has been posted. I've tried every possible method of installing. I do everything possible when trying to install. Hell I even go in and delete the cacth from the last attempted install.
I've worked on PC's for years I know how to keep my machines clean and it's not a anti virus or spyware.
This is a fairly high spec quad core system that I personally built and it's a fresh install of XP. I don't run a bunch of crap on my machines and I'm not some idiot that downloads screen savers and wonders why my machine is full of spyware.
This is an issue with the software CCP is using to package their installer. It has some sort of bug that corrupts files while unpacking which also also corrupts the install folder.
The easy solution to fix this issue would be for CCP to offer an alternative installer for people whom are having this issue.

could it be that the d/ls are showing as complete, when they actually aren't? when you download the patches, do you check the md5 sums first to see if they match?

I don't think so but of course anything is possible. I've noticed there are two types of crc errors. The 1st happens if you don't delete the last D/L attempt from the temp cache.
What happens is the unpacker spits out a CRC error at that point. Assuming you delete the old cache, then I end up with CRC errors during the install. It will be various different files and normally not the same ones.
I'm not a expert on the stuff, but it seems like something is corrupting the files during the unpacking process. This means it shouldn't unpack if files were missing or already corrupted. This is why I think it's the unpacker that's corrupting them.
Before this latest patch the solution was to delete the old install and just D/L the full install. This way you avoided the patching process which was causing the issue. The problem is since this patch the problem is now affecting the full install attempts as well.
Many people were using a work around and using Steam to D/L the game and that was working, however it appears after this latest update the steam version is also spitting out CRC errors for some users.

Jolla go here - http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp - and download the memory test. Burn it to a CD or floppy depending on your hardware.
You could have a bad memory location causing all the grief. I had similar situation where WoW would not patch (CRC errors) and would randomly crash in game. To "patch" the game I had to copy it complete from my Son's PC after he patched his copy.
Eventuslly the bad memory caused trash to be written to the boot sector of the hard drive, and I couldn't even re-install Windows due to the "CRC Errors".
The memory test picked up on the bad memory addresses. I replaced the RAM and all has been well since. Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Navigator |

I do know for sure that a few days back the Mac installer would fail at the 240 meg mark.
Edit: System went through a 2-day memtest86 run a week ago. Clean as a whistle. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer ISKsense | EVE Metrics (NEW) | I Tweet |
