My wife has recently been watching me play eve (I've been playing for about six years). She has decided to give it a whirl, perhaps try industry or some such. In any case, I helped her through the character creation process, which she enjoyed thoroughly, and then we began the tutorials together.
I have to say, I knew Aura had been taken out of the tutorials, but I wasn't fully aware of the impact. I constantly see blogs and dev posts about "New Player Experience", and cannot see how removing Aura is in any way achieving this goal. Aura is, without a doubt, the character of the new player experience.
Please don't let this die!

I agree, I came back to the game after a long period of abscence and I was disapointed that I had to READ through every tutorial page and didn't have voice acting for it anymore... It's sad really.

If anything we should have more Aura, MOAR!!
I wonder how hard it would be to computer generate Aura? The voice is already "computer-like". That way CCP could easily add lots and lots of Aura without having to hire the voice actor.

I'll give you updates on her status when she next regains conciousness.

Problem with voice and tutorials is that the tutorials change quite often when new stuff is included and then they'd have to redo the voice completely for all changed parts, which just isn't feasible.
That voice actress has other things to do, too. -------- Ideas for: Mining

I think we all understand that, but I also think that the difficulty is well worth the effort. I have played many games, and almost all of them had voice acting, but I've never really felt like the voice acting was an actual benefit to the game. With Eve however, Aura's voice actually seemed like part of the game, and for it to be disappearing is just plain sad.
Like I said, taking away Aura is effectively removing a large part of the new player experience. --

True, but tutorials don't change completely every patch. They redid the whole thing in the last expansion, but it was an exception. Now that it's set, they should work on the voice acting for it. It really helped to immerse yourself in the game...
Reading small tutorial text on a 22" monitor at max resolution is not a fun thing to do! (especially since you can't change the UI's font size! GRR!)

Actually, under the General Settings tab, there's an area to change font size on the left hand side, "Context Menu Fontsize" --

As I said earlier I think they could use a computer voice software to record Aura. There are some quite good text-to-speech engines and I'm sure you could get something sounding close to Aura (probably not exactly the same but close). With a text-to-speech program they could record Aura in seconds, and that for every text in the game if they wanted.
This text-to-speech used to work, but it seems to be down now: http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

I made a new alt 3 days ago to train some science skills with...and gave those new newbie missions and the tutorial a try... Quite nicely done...and CCP even started to put non-ISK mission rewards back into game, finally! (Please rework that for ALL missions!) And I even turned on sound on Eve again... But the lack of Aura's voice is...um...disgruntling... Text-only tutorials are...um...well kind of 1990ish... It's definitely not fancy for a current game to have non-voice tutorials. CCP - don't save a few ISKies at the wrong end...fire a few graphics designer if you have to - I'd still be happy with classic eve graphics - but get some VOICE back into the game! (Also get the Quafe girl back!) Best you fire all your game designers and hire me

Didn't she want to become a musician after the spaceship business? Where did that go? We only hear her now when we dock/undock or activate the warp drive. As if she isn't even there anymore... -----

This tbh. Yea, recording the text for the tutorials over and over again would be a pain and would cost quite a bit real-life ISK, but it is worth it. Aura is a huge part of the game in my opinion. I still remember doing the tutorials when I first started this game and really digging the voice-over.
CCP, please bring back Aura to the tutorials and character creation. She really does help set the mood and environment of EVE for new players. Also, I would really love to see some new stuff from Aura in WiS. Perhaps you could integrate her into the stations so we hear her when traveling around?
