Ive been playing a few months and have really been interested in PVP, started up a second account and everything. Unfortunately ive yet to see anything but blob wars, is thats all thats happenning? Low sec has been a ghost town in every area im in lately.
Since im new im feeling kind of disillusioned at the moment and i guess im mostly looking for advice. I dont have much to offer in the form of SP but I really want to get my hands dirty and am having a hard time. Id jump into some FW but it seems like a huge money drain, something which I dont have that much of right now. It really seems to me though that this lowsec pirate/small gang pvp is a trend thats fading, is it me?
Cheers

Completely depends on the Lowsec area.
Some sections of lowsec...will have fewer than 5 pilots visit then in a 23 hour time span...others are bit busier.
Try the OMS<>Tama pipe Or the Rancer area, I'm sure you'll find someone there.

if FW is anyting like it was when I was in, people give away frigates to members of their milita.

Nesoris, all PvP will be a money drain when you're starting out unless you do really well.
Do a few missions, use cheap frigates and join FW - or simply join and and see if you can get some free frigates as people always want tacklers. ___________________

To get the most out of FW join a corp. They will provide you with small gangs, maybe even some free t1 ships. Militia = blob
FW is no different to any other aspect of eve, get your feet wet in the newb corp but to make a real splash join a player corp!

The OMS-TAMA pipe is quite busy and loads of fun as long as you avoid the blob. Make sure you bring enough DPS to kill your target quick cause they normally have a friend or ten in the next system.
If you run around in a blob, most targets will stay out of your way, IE you won't find much to shoot at. Stay in small 1-3 man gangs and you can almost always find someone to fight. Murashu Agony's End |

Try Caldari low sec. It still isn't very populous, but a bit more so than other race's low sec.

Roaming solo: long time between engagements, lose your ship to larger groups
Faction war: short time between engagements, better chance of keeping your ship because you have friends to back you up
I would give faction war a try if I were you. Hell if you join the Minmatar I'll hook you up with 5 frigs myself. ---------- This post brought to you by the worst PVP'er in Eve |

maybe not a hugely beneficial post to the thread but i see this kind of reply a lot and i always want to post. its true that theres often a lot in local, hell, theres sometimes about 80 in local in some areas, but how regularly are any of them out at a belt ratting or in the complex? sure, it happens, i get a couple kills a day no doubt, but its a bit of a stretch to say that all (or any) of the 5 or so people you see in most systems are potential targets.

The closer it is to mission hubs and trade hubs, the more insane the low sec will be.
For example, even pre-FW, Tama was a hot spot because it was the closest 0.3 to Jita. *** Currently Playing: Trolls from Outer Space Current Equipment: VISAcard chain mail, +2 Amulet of Epic Whine, Self Banstick +2 WTB: +666 E-peen killboard stats |

As mentioned before it depends on the region. We used to live in Lonetrek and Essence in the OMS Pipe pre-factional warfare and there was always someone to fight. The only blobs around were from us or FOOM-frig blobs.
We have lived in Genesis for a long time and you rarely see blobs. Most battles are as Murashu said, 1 to 3 man gangs. We have since pushed into some new low sec regions and it's about the same. Small tactical gangs having a friendly slugfest. Low Sec is supposed to be quiet, the only people who live here are those who can handle it. Keep the carebears in trade hubs and leave all the spoils down here for us. "Thought He Could Free The World And So Free Himself...But He Was His Own Demise" |

Most of the lowsec regions that I've hung around in have been good for solo work. The periphery of the big hubs (Tama, Old Man Star, Amamake) tend to be home to the smaller outfits who are more likely to give solo fights. Generally I find the best option is to find a couple of high sec border systems and come up with a patrol of about a dozen systems around those.

Where I live in Aridia, you have the alliance pockets where everyone hangs out doing there own thing.
Once you get about 5 jumps out of there. Things are pretty quiet till you hit 0.0
