We still don't know the details on player owned structures and there are not many details about the alliance system too. But I'm sure there probably will be hundreds of small economical aspects, that will MAKE you protect your assets and it definately will be in the interests of the alliance to protect it's members' assets too.
Some mercs will form alliances, some will remain solo, I guess. But with the arrival of mining outposts, 'watchtowers' and mobile refineries, and etc, I still can see A LOT of potential for mercenary business, even though it may be more hit-and-run type of fighting.

Edited by: RALPH RODRIGUEZ on 31/08/2004 17:03:09 From a merc point of view things couldn't look better.... we can now get paid vast amounts to take on large amounts of players WooooHoooooo.
But from a small corp in an alliance point of view things couldn't look worse.

Hey whatchaknow, does this mean we dont need to bother getting spies inside the target corp anymore? After all, with this many targets who needs Intel
I do feel bad for the mining/production corps working in Empire, theyre screwed! They'll likely leave the alliance and go it alone in which case we will need to war dec the mulecorps who arent in an alliiance but working for one. After all a single corp can still war dec a single corp

Truthfully I really don't understand what the problem is.
Corp - A group of people.
Alliance - A group of Corps - or another way to say it - A group of (a group of people)
Now...what really changed? Would it be better if it was called Corp^2?
They will still be forced to create secondary "Alliances"/"Corps".
They will still be forced to create an Alliance of Alliances.
Nothing will really change IMHO except that you will get some bigger corps^2 as a result. That will eventually lead to chaos...as you can't really please everyone all the time and they will break up creating mini alliances which will really just be glorified corps.
Mercenary business could be booming though as the corps within alliances that can't declare war will act through mercs in order to get around alliance restrictions. (Kinda like individuals do today that are in Corps that don't want to declare war on another corp)

My only beef with the alliance system and in turn the corp system is they have a predefined structure.
Sure you can work around it, but it would be nice to set them up how you want. ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

Originally by: Orestes To be honest, I very much doubt that alliances will make use of the alliance system.
In any case, try to get this asked at the coming Dev chat. I'll point a dev to this thread anyway, but due to Shiva, they might not have time to reply
Fully agreed. It's all restriction with no real benefit besides, say, a chat channel and automatic friendly marking.
Of course, I see think the war system is fairly useless in that if give no incentive to WIN a war. Whats the gain?

I for one do not believe that the new alliance system is going to change all that much for the large alliances. To begin with, current alliance wars are very delegated - certain members of the alliance are un-touchable logistic support whilst only the combat arms of alliances participate. Given that the new system takes off and is actually employed by the alliances, they're going to be knee-deep in war. Furthermore, I've something more than a hunch that leads me to believe they'll be struggling internally over executor status at least as much - if not more so - as they're likely to be struggling against external agression. As our good ISD representative mentioned already, I doubt a good deal of the modern mega-alliances will actually EMPLOY the system and many of those who do are likely to fall victim to human nature before their enemies have half a chance.
That said, I also believe that the profession of a mercenary shall still be alive and kicking. If anything, our evenings might get more excitement when the sky lights up all persimmon orange-like

you may be right on how it will affect the others but for mercs/pvper how can it be any better
first look at why you are a merc........say what you want but isk is not a primary motivator if you wanted isk you would mine
so its eather the fun of the kill, the fun of the hunt or maybe for the rep you can build
id bet thats most of the mercs primary motivators
more tagrets ie war against multi corps @ once greater fame more kills posibly trickier to gank your chosen trophy making said gank all the sweeter
as for
Quote: then I suggest Mercs team up and make an alliance for themselves. Could be fun as hell imo.
i think you may find this a fun option but who knows im sure shiva wont break you if you dont want i to

I'd like to thank my fellow players for all of thier comments to this thread. While I still think that the new system is going to be an issue for a lot of people, I've seen many things posted here that calmed my fears for my chosen profession. Thanks again, all. -
