Edited by: Code Herder on 27/04/2009 14:42:32 I always thought it was incredibly annoying to have to press the export button for any tool parsing trade data.
Well, Eve-metrics proved you can just get it from the cache, sadly they won't open their API nor give the cache file format.
I've decided to give it a go, I've got part of it done (the easy stuff), the station ID, the buy order ID etc. Some values don't seem to be easily accessible, like price, number of jumps, quantity.
Anyway, it just makes it more fun and damn getting controlled test cases in an mmo is not exactly easy.
I'll post what I've got soon if other people want to take a look but I was wondering if anyone worked on this before or if there's some source code lying around for apps reading the cache that I could exploit to speed things up.
PS: Everything I read on the forums seem to confirm that we can read the cache without breaking the eula, if you have proof to the contrary I'll desist but Eve-metrics is doing it and another thread has CPP employees confirming I can so...

Edited by: Vested Interest on 27/04/2009 15:31:03 lots of discussion but no real (public) progress on a cache reader.

I've read the second thread, pretty interesting stuff, it complement some of what I found.
I'll have to post there.

Edited by: Yuniela on 28/04/2009 22:15:57 I have been looking into this aswell, but after a morning of looking into the cache files I concluded that my modest knowledge of programming is not nearly enough to parse them. However instead im willing to pay a programmer a reward in iskies as an incentive for who can produce a working parser and publish the source.

Edited by: Code Herder on 29/04/2009 03:39:23 I might have to take you up on that :)
I won't go into too much detail but let's say it's going well!
And if that bounty is still effective for EMMA, I'd like to take you up on it Vested Interest.

I will contact you in-game this evening, though I'm not sure if what I have will be useful to you. |

If you can get cache decoding working reliably I'm willing to put some time into a standalone eve central uploader and EMMA integration.
I suggest starting a google code project to get the source out there for people to play with and attempt to improve.

I do have a fully working cache reader. And I'd like to get the 2B *g* So if you are interested, contact me on that matter.
However some general things to take note of: A) In general it is not an EULA breach to read the cache files. B) CCP does not want to see such knowledge widely spread. This likely rules out any open-sourcing. C) My library is currently not integrated into any of the mentioned/linked software in this thread. _________________________ EveAI.Live - The EVE-Online API/class library for .Net, C# and VB.Net |
