Hi, i love to fly battleships and since my drone and sige skills are sup-par i refuse to use the phoon quite yet until i get em up. Leaving me with the mael since the tempest is quite sad tbh:O
Is mael any good in vpv at all?
This is the fit i had in mind, please post any comment on as how to make it better;) I fly in FW so i always have tacklers around to support me so ewar is no need.
Highs: 8x 800mm repeating artillery II (barrage)
Mid: X-large shield booster II 2x Invulfield II Shield boost amp II Mwd Cap booster
Low: 3x Gyro II DC II Tracking enhancer II
Rigs: Projectile ambit extension Anti-em shield rig Anti-kinetic shield rig
How does that look? any and all input is more then welcome:)

Edit2:
Removing the tracking enhancer to make room for a co-processor lets me use a MWD...is this valid on a maelstrom?
Seems good for small gangs, will tank like a beast, fitting a co proc is common on maelstrom.

Yeah thats nice gang setup. CPU upgrades are almost always on maelstroms if they want x-large booster and full set of other stuff.

Personally, if I were you, I'd drop the 800mms for 650mms, and replace the tracking enhancer with a T2 PDU.
I only do diplomancy because I haven't found you.. yet. |

If PvP to you means only playing docking hero online, then drop the MWD.
If not, keep it. The Maelstrom needs the MWD as ACs are a midrange weapon, thus you need some mobility *** Currently Playing: Trolls from Outer Space Current Equipment: VISAcard chain mail, +2 Amulet of Epic Whine, Self Banstick +2 WTB: +666 E-peen killboard stats |

Don't be in such a rush to try to insult people, it's just a game, I am sure you are fully capable of proving a point without trying to resort to insults hurled around by 10 year olds on xbox live.
As has been pointed out he does have ACs fit

Thank you all for the input and i will take it all under consederation prior to clicking the undock button in tama, i swear:)
More input is much appriciated, cheers

As per my understanding the pest has been deemed useless and shal reamain in the scrapheap, am i wrong assuming such a thing?
As i said earlier i fly in fw gangs and i don't really know how much remote repping that is going on there but is it really worth a notation at all? Sure i might join a corp soon but first i wanna feal confident that i got some "skills" to bring to the table and i'd rather learn the hard way couse when it costs isks one is usually more inclined to analyse what one has done wrong;)

IMO
Maelstrom performs well if you're not tanking much incoming dps, if you are taking enough DPS that it is going to cause you to run your XL nonstop then you have about 2 minutes until you die.
Using the XL is going to cap you quickly with only 1 injector. There are all the neat tricks that make it look good (blue pill/crystals/faction pimp/double SBAs etc etc) but in the long run I think the Pest performs better.
Flying the Pest gives you a couple of benefits over the Maels
-You can fit a fair buffer on it
-2 utility highslots for neuts/RR/SB whatever(neuts reduce the chance of a smaller ship pinning you down while the gangbang fleet blobs into local)
-5 midslots so you have more flex room for tackle/eccm/TD etc etc
-The majority of people who fit RR fit armor RR, not shields. By being armor buffered this helps you, also the buffer ensures that friendlies will have enough time to close range and get reps on you
-It's cheaper
I like the Maels but I just havnt found much use for it, active tanks get overwhelmed very quickly as the opposing gang grows in size.
Factor in that you can fit mwd/point/eccm/web/sensor booster <- Pick one and run a 4 slot tank or try for a 5 slot tank and limit yourself.
Minmatar have always been about sacrifices in my book, you can do X if you sacrifice the ability to do Y, Maels just requires you to sacrifice too much for a little bit of a gain.
Hope this helps you decide

For FW are you going to be moving between systems or fighting inside plexes?
If either of those you will want an AB or MWD. If you are planning on doing most of your fighting on gates or stations, I suggest using my setup below.
8x 800mm II AC's (Barrage or Rep Fleet EMP, only use Hail on confirmed big targets)
1x X-L Booster II 2x Shield Boost Amp II 2x Invuln II 1x Heavy Electrochem Injector (800's)
4x Gyrostab II 1x Co-Proc II
1x Anti-Em 1x Anti-Therm 1x Anti-Kin
Hammerhead II's or Vespa EC-600's
Have your tacklers tackle the target, then you warp to the tacklers. OR have your tacklers tackle them wherever you're camping, and rush at the target firing barrage until you're in range of faction ammo.
Don't use hail unless someone has a target painter and the target is moving very slowly (or it's a battleship size target). ---

Basically, active tanking is crap, but if you're gonna do it you need to turn your capacitor into HP as fast as possible. The rigs on this setup do just that. You won't have even 2 minutes of boosting but it doesn't matter. While you can run your booster you'll tank 2k DPS, after that you'll die.
