I nearly choked on my cornflakes this morning reading that. Are you living on a council estate or something? Down my way that doesn't even pay for half the monthly rent for a three room flat. OK, I could get on my bike and move elsewhere, but you did say 'regardless of what area'. :p

And im still paying the finance on my Focus ST. Im a bit of a party animal, and I do enjoy living it up on Edinburghs George street. So I never really had any savings
No wonder you have no savings if you spend all your money in the pretentious bars up in George Street.
Give me a real pint along Rose Street or the Grassmarket any day!

Yes because saying someone can live on ú500 a week must mean you live on a council estate.

Where about do you live? And if I find a property in that area where someone on ú500 a week can live, will you give me all your stuff in game?

Dang, one of these places is basically a 20" long closet, and for 500 pounds a month? Is Chislehurst, Kent a fancy codeword for downtown London?
I would highly consider buying a property or leasing to own if crap is that expensive.

Found one here
ú900 per calender month, if you earn ú500 a week that would leave you with ú1100 to live on.
Does not appear to be above a shop either.

I pay just under ú500/quarter for my house-share in Durham. It's not a terribly nice neighbourhood and there's a pub right across the road, but I can put up with it. --- 20:1 mineral compression ISRC Racing, Season 7 - schedule |

So I did a conversion from pound to USD and for 500 (I too am stupid with the symbol thing) I came up with $748 USD. I pay less for a 3 bedroom/2 bath house on acreage. That's some pretty crazy rates for flats over there.

Edited by: Keorythe on 04/05/2009 23:15:32 Sorry to hear about your stroke of bad luck there Maxivo. Labor is kinda on the downturn due to it being cheap to find in other countries, hence the massive outsourcing by everyone. Its like that all over the world except for India and China these days.
If you do go back to school be sure to research what you want to get into first. White collar jobs are also being affected by the economy. Supervisors and C"insert two letters of your choice here" 's are also getting laid off. Unlike the bank CEO's etc, middle line and small line businesses don't have golden parachutes to give out.

Standard of living costs. California despite being a sleaze-hole has some ungodly prices for apartments while Texas has some darn nice apartments for half the costs. Northwestern states are supposed to be even cheaper.

Well i live in a peasants area you could live like a king on a grand a week. I live in a hellhole called mexborough, in south yorkshire, you can rent a 2 bedroom terraced house for ú300 a month however your neighbours will most likely be unemployed chavs that sell drugs and make a lot of noise and anti social behaviour.
