Edited by: ikya on 01/05/2009 17:11:44 So I run five accounts four Hulks and one Orca. And some might say that I have too much time on my hands when planning everything. But, basicly I planned and have been training my Hulk pilots for everything that would make them the Ultimate Hulk Pilots. This includes Core, Mining, Drone, Shield, and Capacitor skills. Here is a rough list of those skills.
Core Skills
- Electronics lvl 5
- Targeting lvl 4
- Enginerring lvl 5
- Hull Upgrades lvl 5
- Mechanic lvl 5
- Navigation lvl 5
- Evasive Maneuvering lvl 4
Capacitor Skills
- Energy Management lvl 4
- Energy Systems Op. lvl 4
Shield Skills
- Shield Management lvl 4
- Shield Op. lvl 4
- Shield Upgrades lvl 4
- Shield Comp. lvl 4
- Tactical Shield Comp. lvl 4
- EM Shield Comp. lvl 4
- Explosive Shield Comp. lvl 4
- Kinetic Shield Comp. lvl 4
- Thermic Shield Comp. lvl 4
Mining Skills
- Exhumers lvl 4 or 5
- Mining lvl 5
- Astrogeology lvl 5
- Ore Proc's lvl 4
Drones Skills
- Drones lvl 5
- Combat Drone Op. lvl 4
- Drone Durabilty lvl 4
- Drone Interfacing lvl 5
- Drone Nav. lvl 5
- Drone Sharpshooting lvl 5
- Scout Drone Op. lvl 5
- Mining Drone Op. lvl 5
- Amarr Drone Spec. lvl 2
- Caldari Drone Spec. lvl 2
- Gallente Drone Spec.lvl 2
- Minmatar Drone Spec. lvl 2
First Question is:
Am I missing any skills other then prerequisites for these skills to help me get closer to hulk mastery?
and...
I have had lots of thought on the matter of my main Hulk pilot also being my reprocessor/refiner. And in doing so he will need to do missions for standing. So taking into consideration the skills he has for the Hulk I was thinking of moving him into the Ishtar(passive shield tank set-up).
I was wondering what others thought as to my choice of a combat ship for my miner?

Looks like you have done your home work. Why do you need Amarr Drone Spec. lvl 2 Caldari Drone Spec. lvl 2 Minmatar Drone Spec. lvl 2
As a hulk your probably running hammerhead 2s only
Also on getting standing... with that many accounts you should be able to run your own POS and refine there. If not... good luck and add the social skills to your list.

I added the other drone specs just to cover the bases. and yes I didn't add social skills though they are a given when doing missions for standing.

You forgot Mining Upgrades
You'll have the drone skills, and it'll be faster and cheaper to go with a domi over the ishtar. _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony QUANT is rebuilding, EVE-Mail me for recruitment info. Item Database |

yes Mining upgrades on the evemon queue but lost on my list here. From all that I read the Ishtar is better then the Domi. But just cuz it peaks my interests what reasons besides cost would you choose the Domi?

Not sure if I'm correct in this assumption but I'm using the Domi with similar skills to solo lvl 4 missions (though I also have the requisite armour tanking skills) and find the drone payload and battleship bonus' to be quiet effective. I have an Ishtar collecting dust as I attempt to improve my gunnery skills which are severely lacking.
In short, I am able to solo lvl 4's with minimal turret skills in a Domi, but would not attempt this in an Ishtar. Is it my fear of losing the expensive ship or an unconscious acknowledgment that the Domi can absorb a lot more damage while the drones work their magic? I honestly don't know.
So, without a lot of points in gunnery, I would suggest you also stick to the Domi until that is corrected.

If we're only talking Missions,
The Domi does everything the ishtar can do, outputs more damage, and is insurable.
Get into low-sec / 0.0 exploration and it's a different story - but it saves you from training a long-ish skill to V. _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony QUANT is rebuilding, EVE-Mail me for recruitment info. Item Database |

If I read it correct you would need BS lvl 5 for the domi to do as much damage as the Ishtar. Plus the Ishtar is faster and has better resistances.

Just giving you the best bang for the buck if you want to most effective gallente level 4 mission running ship in the shortest amount of time.
Ishtars are fine, they just run missions slower than Domis. _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony QUANT is rebuilding, EVE-Mail me for recruitment info. Item Database |

Why would you only run Hammerheads? Personally I run Drones based on the standard rats for the area, 3 of the primary damage type and 2 of the secondary, so in Gallente Space were Serpentis are the normal rats Hammerheads(thermal) and Vespas(kinetic), if I was in Drone Regions I run Infiltrators(EM) and Hammerheads(thermal).

Well after some more research and considerable thought I have come up with a plan. I found that it will take me 6 days to get into a domi and 7 more days after that to get it to lvl 4. Now add 33 days to that for lvl 5 to make it do the same damage as the Ishtar. Now the funny part is it will take me about the same amount of time just to get into an Ishtar.
So the plan is to train for the Domi BS lvl 4 then work my way 2 the Ishtar just cuz I like it. I think it would be nice to see several Ishtars flying around together...lol

Ishtar can tank missions as well if not better than a domi. Just orbit the warpin point at 1km and you will be fine. Oh yeah, and stay away from angels :)

For a Hulk I wouldn't bother with the passive skills. I don't have them and can tank 0.0 rats just fine(triple BS spawns). # EM Shield Comp. lvl 4 # Explosive Shield Comp. lvl 4 # Kinetic Shield Comp. lvl 4 # Thermic Shield Comp. lvl 4
They really only effect passive tanks and most Hulk setups use a shield booster. I've been told they don't apply the bonus correctly to the resistance amps anyway, not sure if that's true. I'm assuming (since you are maxing out your shield skills) that you plan to get into 0.0 at some point. I'd consider getting the Thermodynamics skill so you can overload the shield if you really get into a tight situation; ganker, bad spawn, etc.
Also, why go with a Domi? Your going to have maxed shield skills and try to fly a BS that uses an armor tank. I'd consider a Drake/Nighthawk or maybe a Raven/Golem for missions. Any of those ships can do lvl 4 missions solo, Nighthawk and Golem should make them quite easy.

The idea behind this plan was to find something that I could get in easily that would work with the skills that I am training for Hulk. Missile or gunnery skills would add more time then they would be worth. Plus with all the drone skills gallente is the only wise choice.

Yeah, I agree that for damage output a Domi is your best bet with all the drone skills you'll have. But using a Domi in level 4 missions requires that it can get all the initial aggro and tank it while the drones do all the work. I'm just not sure that you will be able to do that without a lot of training in armor tanking skills. Quite interested to hear how it works out for you because I considered doing the same thing, but decided to make my Orca pilot my mission runner instead and went with the Nighthawk, since I already had all the leadership skills. Fly the missions in fleet and share the standing, Orca pilot does the fighting while my miner picks up the salvage.

Edited by: Red Kaily on 06/05/2009 08:58:19 As mentioned above there is Implants that can help. Training Mining upgrades to lv5 might give you more grid. Also there is a rig that can take advantage of your drone skills. Train Drones Rigging to lv4 or lv5 if you want (to reduce CPU penalty). DRONE REPAIR AUGMENTOR I
Drone rigging skill can also help with Domi and ishtar if you use sentry drones which is SENTRY DAMAGE AUGMENTOR I.
EFT can help you see if 1 or 2 rigs are worth it depends on ore size btw.

a) Domi's don't need to draw full agro - that's the most inefficient way to run the missions. b) Sentry drones are key - they can be immediately scooped / deployed when drawing aggro (see a) c) Sentry Damage Augmentor's are pretty darn mandatory. _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony QUANT is rebuilding, EVE-Mail me for recruitment info.
