take the ability to link items in local away plain and simple.
server lag would drop drasticly the second this happens.you would actually be able to jump in and out of jita for example

Sounds like a decent enough idea tbh
Would it just be items, or do you mean the links to contracts?
Either way, anything to help reduce the volume of scam contracts in market hubs would be ideal

up to the developers how far they take it whatever would be fastest and easiest for them i guess

agree, sales and pseudo-sales (scams) does not belong in local

I think a better idea would be to limit the amount of times people can advertise scam contracts. I dont think its fair to punish the people who advertise real contracts, but I do agree that scamming contracts should be limited in there spamming. It is causing real problems in Jita again.

the fastest way to put an end to it would be to simply remove the feature rather then having to re wright code
after all its only local there are channel especially for posting contracts and with removing the feature the number of fake contracts would drop making for better sales of real ones and less strain on the server as a whole
and as a bonus feature it would help make things harder for isk spammers as well

You do realise that since chat data is not shown prior to when you jumped in, it has very little effect on whether or not you can jump in? Having say, help chat open has a greater effect than jita local. In fact, the best solution to Jita lag would be to remove the stations from it. That would remove the market and discourage everyone from going there. However, that is a stupid idea.

Solution is simple.
Charge isk for every local contract link, will fix all spammers/scammers.

Amarr is starting to become more like jita and i enjoy the banter that happens in amarr because its funnier then "[Insert item here]ONLY 200K!!!" and "OMG SCAMMER"

Edited by: hackzor nstuff on 03/05/2009 18:58:43 that would work but it would require the developers to write new code to the game and test it first where if they simply remove the linking in local feature would only take roughly one down time
edit-sorry this was a response to Satan's post

That's what I came here to say. It'd hurt scammers while still letting legit contracts be linked occasionally. ------------

ok compromise then temporarily removing linking in local until the charging isk to link in local can be coded and tested sound fair and easy to a dev?

Wait wot? If you "simply remove the feature" then its gone for all channels. The game doesn't care what channel your typing in. If you want to remove it from local only (there buy not breaking every other channel) then you have to add code.
I'm not saying its a bad idea, or that its that complex, but its adding code, and probably a lot more than you would think.
(where do you add this 'check if its local' code? when dragging and dropping on top the channel? What if people find a way around that, say by dragging in to a different channel and copying over? Add another check when pressing enter? What if someone injects it at a network level? Add a 3rd check at the server end? Server end checks are bad, especially when its something like this which can be checked client end and will result in a huge spike in server activity otherwise.. So check again on receiving the text at the other client ends, which will increase the effect of spamming in jita anyway?)
Edit: Also, it wont reduce the spamming.. You'll get a lot more "Selling [x] for [scam amount] see my bio for details" and the contract will just be linked in there.

Well, yeah it would. Not nearly as many people would be willing to go check someone's bio and those that do are likely to scrutinize it more. The draw of these 999 scams is that they offer a "good deal" for a fast sale and those poor fools who accept are just trying to be the first one to get that cheap mod before someone else clicks.
But TBH they might as well just remove links from bios too while they're at it.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

I do get your point, but people that spam this get at most 1 sale a day for 23h of spamming (its a bot, it HAS to be) so the chances of them finding someone that is going to accept a T2 Invul for 200M are probably not reduced much by it being in their BIO instead of directly in local. I mean I actually watched a contract get sold where the guy stated "Do not buy the following contract its a scam" and someone STILL bought it.
You just cant code around that no matter what you do, and if it works once it will be spammed 23/7 for a week..

Something definitely needs doing about the spammers but I don't know what the exact solution would be but there's been some good suggestions here http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1062695 - along with a lot of flame-age but the point remains that local in the hubs is broken if it becomes a macro-scam fest. If the devs could take some of this into consideration it'd be a boon to trade and overall gameplay experience. Peace LW

Limit what people can do on Free Trials. e.g. no Contracts. and GM's should be Banning the Accounts of those with Paid Accounts. but your idea would work well too.
