Hi, I'm just wondering if there is a newer "Quarterly Economic Newsletter" than QEN Q1 2008 ? If not, Why ?? I love this report !

The generally accepted answer is that Dr. E was downsized in the Icelandic economic collapse. He's since been replaced by a Jita market bot. ---------------- Ambulation Answers

For the billionth time, their "resident economist" is nothing but a PR stunt.
If they wanted serious economic analysis they would have consulted the members of MD, you know, the people that actually run the economy. We'd have happily done if for free and in a much more timely fashion. Any issues with disclosing information to players could have been dealt with the same way the CSM has been. This is win, win. It's cheaper for them and we get the data we actually want and can finally have a meaningful discussion on inflation. The only thing it doesn't do is make for a good PR stunt and that's all they actually care about.

Fair enough EVE help, but I don't see where they got any value from having the economist on board - as in any game changes they made as a result of his analysis. Which is probably why he's no longer working for them.
Analysts without meaningful contribution to the company are nothing but overpaid admins, and not the systems kind.

I have a degree in finance as I slowwwwly finish my masters in finance, one day I will get my PhD in finance but that will take many more years.
PS a finance degree is sooo much better than economics degree.

And to think I learned in elementary school how to get assignments done on time. Do most people require PhDs to learn how to do that?
I'd take our 'amateur' reports over his non-existant 'expert' ones.

Maybe someone enterprising should mock up an 'economic one-pager' report, something that CCP could run some SQL queries to fill in monthly. The idea being that if it can be automated, it might actually be released regularly and on time.
Contents might be just a few relatively basic things, universe-wide, e.g.:
- mineral (i) prices and (ii) volumes
- T2 material (i) prices and (ii) volumes;
- T2 component (i) prices and (ii) volumes;
- velocity of ISK;
- inflation;
- number of manufacturing jobs completed, by Technology Level;
- number of invention jobs completed, by Technology Level;
- LPs cashed in, by faction.
The definitions of some of these numbers might be complex, but once a definition is settled, the actual reporting should be simple to automate.
Then a CSM-person could take this report template to a CSM meeting to have a discussion about it as a concrete possibility, rather than simply continuing to ask for more economic reporting.

neither of us can champion it at the moment, CSM 2 issues are in lockdown until the last meeting in a couple of weeks time. What I can do in the meantime (or LVV) is ask where the QEN's are in our new dev Q&A thing that is about to launch. CSM gets 5 questions a month to ask devs and they do a Q&A style devblog answering those questions.
Also, put the idea up in the assembly hall - once it passes the 7 day restriction it can be raised by a member of the next CSM. ----------------------

I honestly think more pressing questions need to be raised.
What are they doing to solve the ratio issue of where minerals come from to their relative value is years above and beyond the fluff reports we got every now and then. |

I agree with this sentiment. The best answer we'd be likely to get about the QEN would be "Uh...he's busy. Maybe some other time"
But thanks for the heads up on the procedure, Oz.

no probs, and I agree that there are more important issues to ask about out there, just letting you know that is about all that can be done atm.
Regarding the where do the minerals come from questions - that would be my vote for a question since we asked for data, ccp supplied us incomplete data, and after a request for that data to be completed, we have heard nothing, not even if they had put a data tap in place to collect the info requested.
It's kinda hard for CSM to suggest any changes regarding mineral distribution or removal of npc loot if that data doesn't support it. ----------------------

Agreed, we did sorta get half the picture which only brought up more questions than it answered. |

Originally by: CCP Diagoras As we are sure you will all be glad to hear, the QEN for Quarter 1 2009 is in its final stages and should be published within the next week.
Now lets just wait to see if we get the one mentioned above or it goes the way of QEN Q2 2008 that was similarly announced, or QEN Q3 and QEN Q4 that had announced publishing dates. -- --- --

Pardon me while I mock the good Doctor E.
I struggle to understand why he wastes pages *picture of T3 ships* on graphs of skillpoint distribution and such. This relates to *picture of T3 ships* the economy... how. Also, most of the data in that graph *picture of T3 ships* is out of date; the most recent information comes from March, and while maybe nice for looking *picture of T3 ships* back in time two and a half months ago, it doesn't tell us much about the current state of the economy. *another picture of T3 ships*
In short, I'm disappointed (but not surprised). This report has very little actual content or analysis, and consists mostly of statistics and pretty-but-meaningless graphs of price/volume over time. "It's interesting that X has risen 30% in February." ... So? I can get that from looking at the Price History on my own, thanks anyways.
The bit at the very end was interesting though: "Research and analysis provided by the Research and Statistics team." So what exactly does Doctor E DO? He writes an editorial and serves as the editor of the Quarterly Annual Report. And he has such a good grasp of what makes EVE players tick that he can say things like "The driving engine in all of these interactions, battles and social organizations is trade." Yes, of course that's why players duke it out! The Goons fight Bob because they want to trade.

So the useful bits of information from this report were:
There are 300,000 active accounts and 660,000 characters. There were 29 t3 cruisers made in march.
Did I miss any other pertinent data?
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

Not even that, two patches have been neccesary to fix primary things not working and even now we have some important issues still needing fixes like cloaking and probes. |

50k jumps into w-space daily first, dropping to under 25k, then stabilizing at around 30k per day later. And yeah, that's about all the _useful_ data from the QEN which can't be gathered ingame in a couple of minutes.
