is it worth the time and money to run a small pos with a lab or two to research BPOs to max for sale or possibly make copies of for sale? would it atleast give enought isk to pay for the fuel need of a small tower? --------------------------------------------- Playing minmatar is "like going down a flight of stairs in a office chair firing an Uzi". |

Nope, unless its capital blueprints, you might have a chance to make a profit after fuel cost.
Fake edit: On second thought, on a small tower? Probably not

I think brock is protecting his own interests........yes, there is money in it...not much in a small one, however in a large one you can make a lot...would need 6 research alts though. -----------------------

I don't do copies for one main reason, I don't want most of my capital tied up in copy slots for low return.
Say you buy capital cargo bay for 700m, research it for a month and you could make up to 20% profit. On the other hand, if you do copy, you'll need to do a month's worth of research on the cargo bay blueprint and then do a month of copying (say you've made 60 runs total). You sell it for 3m per 5 runs, you've only made 36m, which is only 5% profit over 2 months.
You're better off doing research as you'll make higher return on it

Man, why don't you at least come up with some numbers? What do you think people will tell here? Giving you info on a flourish business? Telling you to join them in on what they do for making isk?
Just grab you a calculator/excel and use your brain.. There's a sticky in the TOP which has guides/tools for:
Then there are contracts, where you can get an idea what researched BPO go for. A simple invest isk - sell isk will give you an answer.
If you would had come here with some calculations about that and asked if they're right or that you don't see a profit in this and if we can help.. well this would be another post.

Edit: Tres's right, do the numbers yourself
But researching BPO's to sell makes money. I know selling copies is pretty lame...i just do that when i have BP's sitting idle. and generally for corp use.
and as above do the math yourself. its pretty easy to work out how much you can make per BP per slot. then just subtract fuel costs. -----------------------

Having a small pos purely for researching non capital bpo's, isn't worth it.
But if you have a large one, full with labs and you have all the capital components bpo's plus some capital ship bpo's, you can research them, then copy, and resell them. This can give you a nice profit, but it needs a huge investment and a long time before your investment becomes profit.

my main income would still be missions...i just want something more to do, have a change of pace so to say. if i cant make isk selling copies or fully researched BPOs i'l just recykle all my loot from the missions and build the ships or items for sale instead... --------------------------------------------- Playing minmatar is "like going down a flight of stairs in a office chair firing an Uzi". |

If you don't run the numbers yourself, you'll never know whether you are truly making a profit. So... for you my friend, the answer is no.
However, since you do run missions, it would be worthwhile to create research alts to collect datacores that generate a small and steady cashflow.
Alternatively, you could also create a business of running missions for the research alts of others. ---------------- Mutatis Mutandis |

Did you know
* datacore farming alts can research 6 BPOs each (18 total per account) in NPC stations for a month. * you continue R&D even when unfunded
That's your competition. Zero fuel costs, and who cares if it takes a couple of weeks before research begins. It's not like the DC farming account gets reactivated more than once every 6 months or so anyway.
My advice is to focus on copying module BPOs. BTW, you can anchor 3 labs at a small POS. If you do decide to put up a tower make sure you've got the alts to fill all the slots -- ME, PE, copying AND invention.

Yes you can.
Researching smaller BPO's and selling them at 10x to 20x the purchase price cuz no one else sells them. They do sell. Example, Warp Scram / Web BPO costs (guessing from memory) under 100k? give them 2 days research to get them ME 20, sell them for 15M
and yes, they sell, and rather quickly...just check my contract history.
Should I have shared this?
