For the tl;dw crowd here is a short synopsis of the escapist staffs opinions on griefing.
John Funk: Closet griefer. It was really him being the arsewipe in all those examples he used.
Jon Hayter: Typical total flaming carebear. Was that a quaver in his voice when he talked about losing his arse on that ammo deal?
Nick Haines: Goon alt. 'nuff said..
And introducing Matt Kuliani as The n00b.

Whereas I think the person who bought that ammo was seriously stupid for not checking the price, I feel that there is something wrong with people that they enjoy watching people suffering. You want to see people cry? What's wrong with you?
I enjoy playing the game, even if sometimes it frustrates me to lose a ship in a stupid way, but all I want to do is defeat my enemies. I have no desire to bully them, or see them suffer in real life. You should provoke some kind of response, usually anger or irritation, but to delight in people's misery is not an enviable trait.
Also, for me, griefing is continually harrassing someone. Conning people on the market is scamming. This doesn't make scamming an acceptable business practice, but it's not the same as griefing someone.

It's not seeing people cry, it's seeing them cry about petty trivial things that were pretty much their own fault anyway. The thing about laughable people is that people laugh at them.
Guy who gets beaten up and robbed on the way home from work -> considerable sympathy
Guy who complains that he got beaten up while in a boxing ring -> considerable derision
See the difference?

Being a ****** != being griefed. Learn to check the market, crybaby.
What I consider griefing = harrasment through exploits of game weak mechanics (i.e. spawncamping) or plain cheats (aimbooootz). If its supported by the EULA is not griefing.
Also all this crybabies stuff come from the stupid distinction of PvE & PvP that is made on MMORPGayGames, is the root of the evil. You don't see much talk about "griefing" in any other online multipler game, because all them are only pvp.

oh my... there were few good points in that video but... oh my
ammo deal made my day it was your friggin fault, dude! watch what you buy! I always smirk when I see hugely overpriced things in market and wonder why those guys don't want to get rid of their stuff... but it turns out now, they really have something going on there

Lowest sell order gets the deal, but it's at the price the BUYER has selected. So you could have your stuff at 1 ISK a piece and get 1 mil ISK a piece if some silly boy accidentally seleted the "wrong" sell order.
Also, some stations might actually only have ONE sell order of some ammo at an insane price.

the world is full of ****s as are virtual worlds.
In eve there is a block function, there are wardecs, suicide ganking and just using your brain to protect yourself and get revenge.
Hell of a lot of games with a lot of ****s where you can't escape them, you can't block them and your only option is quit.
also lol at line ".... in most games there is a button that quits." there are games with no quit button?

You can find out who you bought from and who you sold to. The only thing you can't find out is who is selling, unless you buy from them. And in that case you can only ever buy from the lowest order in a station.

The market awards the sale to the person with the lowest price, it pays them however as much as the buyer entered as the amount they were willing to pay, either manually or by trying to buy a more expensive sell order.

Very true, much of what they were calling griefing is business as usual in eve.
That is why I found it funny at least.

EVE being EVE, I'm used to greifers, greifees, and people complaining about both.
But this, this really takes the cake.

Hey folks! I'm Jon Hayter, the 'flaming carebear' from the video! How's everyone doing?
This is fun, I've never really been flamed before. Thanks for busting that particular cherry. Now, to clarify some things :)
Yes, I was REALLY upset when I got scammed. Not crying upset, ****ing ****ed off RAGE upset. At the guy who put the stuff up for sale? Sure. At CCP for telling me to suck it up? Sure. At MYSELF for being such a ****ing moron? ABSOLUTELY. I've been playing online games since the UO beta. I've played most of them. FPS's since Quake. I am completely familiar with griefing, scamming, duping, exploiting, and the rest of it. And have been for a /decade/. I was how I was on camera, because I knew I was effectively telling the Internet how damn dumb I was - and how much not being careful in PvP games can be.
Do I fly around in lowsec with a T2 ratting ship and fits? Do I undock before checking local? Do I auto pilot through 0.0 while I make a sandwich? Do I /normally/ buy ANYTHING without double checking everything? Nope! Just that one time. So I told a story about how I'd been griefed recently. Do I know it's my own fault? Absolutely.
Hell, I've done my share of ganking, griefing and exploiting (mostly in UO) - I know the score. I just can't believe I fell for one of the older tricks in the book. That's why I was upset.

I'm glad you found us. Perhaps the video brought you across as more of a butthurt carebear than you think you are, nonetheless, I do believe you were whining about being scammed, and that is enough to earn a fire-y assault here on the eve forums.

My position to griefing is, that I enjoy PvP, fighting against someone and winning and sometimes losing. That is game and I will never complain about it, or want it completely safe or something. PvP is usally more fun when both sides had a chance to enjoy it.
What I do not like is shooting some random guys or neutral Haulers that just went through the wrong stargate. This attitude did not really help my killboard stats, since nearly every time I go against Guys that are also out for PvP, but that is how I play.
There is no enjoyment for me in just trying to **** someone off.
I guess I have to join the anonymous Carebears for help now.

I liked the part where you had been playing eve for 2 years and only earned 700 mil and how you petitioned paying "too much" for your ammo. You must be a slow learner?

Actually, more than 2 years. And yeah, only 700mil liquid on that character, at that moment.

How am I stupid or whining when I relate a story about some **** jacking prices, hoping someone wasn't paying attention during the purchase? I know I ****ed up. I admit it. I doesn't make the seller any less of a ****. I'm not whining, I'm stating facts. No one loses anything they value without wishing they hadn't. I appreciate the posturing and hard core attitudes being displayed here, but isn't it a bit juvenile to be flaming a bunch of people for being interviewed?
The Escapist has always been a big supporter of EVE, CCP and the game universe they create. I'm curious where all the vitriol is coming from.

Well for one thing, clogging up the petition queue with the equivalent of crying to your mom because the other kid won at marbles and you want her to make him give them back after he won fair and square.
No-one likes a bad loser, especially when the already overloaded petition system takes a hit because you were hoping to ask CCP for a cup of warm milk and a cookie and your blankey and your special lucky cats eye back.
