Hi, I was just curious -
- under what circumstances (if any) is repeatedly, intentionally bumping another ship an offense?
- what are the ramifications of doing this?
I'd like to know the official position from CCP staff.
Thanks.

As far as I know, anything that's used to repeatedly annoy the same player over and over for no actual reason is an offense. ---

Edited by: spongebobbb on 13/05/2009 11:36:51 if its done just to pure greif the $hit out of somone, IE stoping somones freigher getting to warp, in high sec with no intent of killing them. IE just for the sake of stoping him warping.
this 'could' be considered an offence. bumping ships to stop them warping in low sec/0.0 wouldnt be an offence as you could be doing it to prevent warp so somone can come gank them etc....
bunoing ships to prevent them from dockin in 0.0 / low sec will never be considered an offence.
hope this helps

Bumping freighters for the sake of annoying them, is considered as offensive(grefing) behavior.

This. Provided you have reason, its fine. if you repeatedly do it to the same player for no reason, its greifing (not that that means anything will be done)

* Bumping is allowed only by the character who started the thread. If you use another character you will get warned. * Bumping must consist of a real sentence, not simply the word "bump". For example, "Recruitment still open" is an acceptable bump. * Bumping may only be done once per day.

I'd say that's only true if there were hostilities involved. If, for some bizarre reason, you did it over the course of an extended period without firing a shot, and nobody showed up to kill the target, there'd be a pretty good argument for harassment.
I'm just saying that if they could shoot you, and they don't, then they're probably there to **** you off in a way that is very different from shooting you to **** you off.

In the particular case of OP i suspect he is a miner in Hedion, a system Noir. have been hired to drive miners out of; this involves wardecs on player corps and bumping/suicide ganking NPC miners.

The official position of CCP can be optained by filing a petition to a GM. If you are unsure the first stage answer is correct, you should escalate the petition to a senior GM. Posting here won't do you any good.

Something they are not doing very well if all the other miners ninjaing around did as well or better than this.

Umm CCP have given thier official opinion on numerous occasions on the forums so why clog up the petition queue when a direct answer can be given here and linked in the future for other players wanting to know.

You could be stopping it from warping in high sec too, while your friend's haul ass in some suicide ships.
You could be doing it to prevent the freighter from reaching its destination, to hinder its market activities.
Bumping is a perfectly acceptable mechanic, whatever the reason.
I swear every thread I read about stuff like this makes me cry a little inside.

I still believe that we should have ship to ship damage based on speed+mass+trajectory of ship a Ramming Speed+mass+trajectory of ship B.
I also believe it should be a stealth buff as the whines would be over the top when inty's start splattering themselves against the hull of a freighter.
But honestly some ships just look like they are made for ramming.

Nicely managed. Not a single correct statement in that sentence. CCP devs never comment on issues regarding exploits and rules violations, because that falls under the GMs. GMs only very very rarely discuss rules violations on the forums and this I have only seen happen in case of very severe violations (pos exploit) or in cases where the integrity of the GMs have been put into question by people who are obviously lying through their teeth (RMT'ers).
And you are not filling up the petition queue. This is a load of BS. People who whine about loosing their 1bil cargo to suicide gankers while autopiloting through empire. They fill up the petition queue. People asking valid questions about game rules do not.

I still think the bumping mechanic shouldn't even exist in the form that it does. To bump another ship should require a ship of SIMILAR mass to move it significantly.
IE: a ship that is several size classes smaller than the ship it's bumping should bounce off and careen out of control, not the larger ship. Think in terms of how an oil tanker would react to being hit by a rowboat. It wouldn't.

Physics 101: If the rowboat is going fast enough, it'll bump the oil tanker out of the ocean. Providing, of course, that it doesn't just punch through.

This is only true when there were no inertial. All the kinetic energy will get transformed into deformation energy and the rowing boat either flattens itself on the tanker or shoots right through it. -------- Ideas for: Mining
