What are the perks of endgame mining compared to end game combat? I would like to do mining but i dont know what there will be to do endgame
Pretty much mining as much ore as possibly and refining it for a high price?
If anyone knows some good interesting stuff to do end game for miners please tell me.
Dont want to be stuck doing nothing while all my friends pvp.

Edited by: Tau Cabalander on 13/05/2009 20:07:09 By the time you've mastered every aspect of mining and refining ore and ice, I'm guessing you'd probably already be quite involved in manufacturing and invention. Probably with a large POS humming away making and researching stuff.
Or possibly even in charge of a mining and industry corporation of your own.
Or trying your hand at T3 production and exploring wormholes.
Or maybe even completely bored with mining and industry, and using your knowledge of minerals / ore / ice / ice products, to dominate the markets trading in them. Maybe even managing your own fund.
FYI: I built myself a battlecruiser. Just because you are a miner / industrialist doesn't mean you don't like to pew pew ever!
Or supplying your corporation with materials and ships as they fight for areas of space.
Or .... so many possibilities. Really up to your imagination and what YOU want to do.

Mining has no "endgame", and is dull as hell. At best, you're looking at an income level a half-decent L4 mission-runner will be LAUGHING at.
Ok, or, better said, if it has one, it's not very far skill-wise. The Hulk is pretty much "it". It's all about location, and mining Arkonor (the most valuable ore) in the deepest of 0.0 (or in wildspace anomalies) is barely 3-4 times more profitable than mining Veldspar in highsec nowadays, and if nothing changes, the margin will keep getting smaller and smaller.

What he mentioned as interesting is not mining, but stuff you can do with the things you mine You can do all of that without ever mining, by simply buying the minerals.

Don't let Akita put you off mining, if that's what you like to do. It is true that it's not as profitable as some other things. But at least it's more profitable than combat. Also I think you can do it for longer times than missions, you don't need to pay as much attention. At least in high sec.
I have trained all mining skills there are. Took about a year, with some diversions. I could still train more shield skills though, to cope with the rats in 0.0. Currently I'm in empire and running some missions to get zero taxes.
I will of course mine from time to time to get ISK. But training wise I have come as far as I can. So it is time to find something else to learn. I'm thinking exploration. And I need to train some pvp stuff as well. The thing is, you don't need to choose between an end game miner and an end game pvper. You can do both in time.

Of course, if he mines the minerals himself, their FREE, and so he can make a HUGH profit, while still selling at half the price everyone else is!

Well, technically they are "free" (as opposed to worthless), but then again ISK is "free" too if you go by the same definition

Some other suggestions:
Get a couple other accounts, get them in hulks, train leadership skills and get in an orca and increase your profits.
And/or replaces 'other accounts' with lackeys.... err... corpmates. _________________________________________________________

If you dont run two accounts(miner/hauler or miner/miner), ratting is more profitable. Then again if you run 2 accounts you could dual rat and kill rats faster. Yeah mining gets boring but its good to atleast get up to hulk status so you can mine if you feel like it. You can probably pull in a few hundred millino a day depending on how much you mine, with arkanor, bistot or crokite. Then again you could do the same ratting or missioning.
I trained everything over the past year. I can hulk mine, haul, mission level 4s, kill the highest bounty rats, pvp etc. In otherwords i get bored on one thing and then i can do another.

Then technically there is no such thing as an endgame in EVE for anything.
PvP is just shooting player ships. PvE is just shooting NPC ships. Mining is just shooting rocks. Markets, trading, and manufacturing are just making ISK.
Really the endgame in EVE is whatever you make it out to be.
Me, I enjoy mining. No seriously. While mining I'm calculating laser cycle times for the asteroids, updating my earnings spreadsheets, checking the markets, planning productions runs, etc., which I also find engaging and fun. Last evening I went mining and just wandered, and all I could think about was the viability (the logistics and profitability) of harvesting the many belts I came across.
I also can't stand around idle while evil asteroids are secretly plotting the destruction of civilization as we know it. They gather in groups in deep space to make their evil plans. If left alone too long, their numbers grow threateningly high. I am not content to let them go unchecked! Stop the asteroid menace now before it's too late I say!

Have you tried... you know... mining. There isn't much else really tbh. You can only really vary your ship and what you mine. Considering all ores are almost identical in the mining procedure, and different ships only vary in cargo and mining ability, I fail to see what you want. Do you want to be able to, say, mine while flying upside down, or mine using different coloured beams? How about mining while doing barrel rolls? Yeah... you get the point. CLEAR SKIES 2 IS OUT! PLEASE SEED! |

Thanks to a series of game distortions (including missioning / ratting loots), your end game will look identical to the first day you logged in the game: at a 1.0 newbie starter system, mining veldspar.

Pffft, semantics! Besides, they still aren't free because they take a considerable amount of effort/time to acquire and thus their cost is in time invested. 'Technically' nothing is free since any acquisition requires some amount of time or effort, no matter how miniscule. The very term free itself was invented by gods-damned marketers eons ago trying to push inferior products.

Last I checked this was the Science and Industry channel. No one with even half a brain thinks just because something is free it doesn't have any costs, but in both science and industry words have clearly defined meanings because it is far more useful to discuss how something works rather than argue over the meaning of the words used to describe it. If you choose to ignore that free has a well defined meaning in business, without monetary cost, and redefine free to include other costs, you are muddying the waters to no useful end.
If you don't agree, please take the time to look up the word free in a dictionary before responding. Among the many definitions of the the word free, you'll find something similar to "provided without, or not subject to, charge or payment". You can also look up the word Gratis. It means the same thing. In English, Gratis is usually referred to as Free of Charge. Over time that was shortened to Free.
If you have another argument that doesn't boil down to "free isn't really free, because free doesn't mean what it means", I'll be happy to consider it. In the meantime, perhaps we can get this discussion back on topic.

The "endgame" for mining is being the squad commander, flying an Orca while you just chat to your underlings and occasionally tractor a can.
It's almost as exciting as being a raid leader in WoW, except there's no script for you to read out to the underlings, and there's no fire to keep reminding people to not stand in.

I just love to mine and build stuff, im currently building T1 gear and am having a great time doing it. I started off going from corp to corp under the wing of better miners and manufacturers and learning from them. Dont get me wrong I have detoured along the way gaining drone and PvP skills but gone back to mining.
I have since broken away from being a corp Member to running my one T1 production corp, with my aquired wealth over the past year or so I have managed to buy every T1 BPO upto Cruisers (plus hundreds of BPC's). I can also build capital ships from scratch.
I mine for most of my time in Eve and when the belts run dry I mission to raise standings etc. This enables me to keep my prices at rock bottom for my stuff and business is good.
There are so many options open to you in Eve, if you love doing what your doing then keep doing it, with the occassional break so as not to get fed up with it to much. Get you Manufacturing skills up (nothing sweeter than seeing all 11 manufacture jobs buzzing away in the factories), all your refining and exhumer skills.
It's also handy if your dead keen on this type of game play to skill up for a Freighter! They come in very handy (like transporting 2000 frigates to a FW corp - lots of trips lol).
But the most important thing in this game no matter what you do is to have fun, after all it's a game we all go to for escapism and to emerse ourselves within the Eve universe!
Good luck with what ever you do, Fly safe and have fun -----------------------------------------------

Akita derailed it first by bringing up the definition of free, which was not at all what we were discussing. Obviously the OP knows you dont have to pay rent to the veld gods when you sit at an asteroid belt :p. don't be so condescending, remember I'M the one that mentioned this is an argument about semantics, so I was the first to realize the futility of my argument. But Akita's was just as futile, and did not require the subsequent "QFT" since it was stating the obvious. Savvy?

The Endgame Mining is one guy controlling Orca and 7 Hulks all by himself. The Serious Miners sooner or later get to that point and in some cases burn out soon afterwards.
Remeber - in EVE when it gets to 'endgame' stuff it's no longer relevant whats your effectivity per character but what counts in the end is your personal performance across all the gazillion accounts you own (as it's 'endgame') and one person is able to control quite many mining chars.
If you like mining then ore is not the only thing that can be mined, but for a starter Hulk is pretty mutch 'it'. For 'endgame' stuff you are propably looking at Rokh and gas harvesting - assuming you are not after isk/h.

I've always liked mining for the sitting around having a chat to a decent group of people side of it.
In pvp everyone's alot more focused on what's going on, obviously.
Mining, as long as you've got an eye on local\intel channels, is alot more layed back and zen or dull, depends on your stand point.
The ore you get is never free as it takes time to get and it depends what you value your time at.
The exhumers require some shield skills and it's always worth getting all the relivant engineering\electronics skills up anyway just so you have more cap, more cpu, more power etc.
That then leads into caldari ships fairly nicely if you fancy some pew pew what with the shield tanking skills etc.
that's my 2 bits --
If there's no profit to be made you need to travel further afield.
