I'm seeing the same behavior. I'm downloading the fully patched complete client to try that if necessary, but if anyone has a solution, I'd appreciate it.

I have a similar problem on my system. I'm getting a black screen where the login screen should be. The escape menu works, but crashes if I try to click on the "Close Window" button or "Audio and Chat" tab.

Same problem. It's starting to look universal. [Resolved: That any further use of the term "YARR!" will result in loss of 100 million skill points and confinement to a newbie ship for one year.] |

Therefore, has anyone been able to run the new version successfully?

Filed a petition, oh i do hope this is not the end of eve. Its also a situation that could easily have been avoided if CCP had simply done a single install and test.

Yeah, same here. If I do this "cancel subscription" thing does it leave the time I paid for on my account?
For anyone who cares, I'm using the GIT version of Wine from 2/27/09, have an nvidia 7300GT, Gentoo Linux 64bit, AMD X2 processor, blahblahblah...

That's two 64-bit linux distros so far -- is anyone using 32-bit?

No joy on full install. I reach step 3/3: Extracting Files, and get an Archive Extraction Failed: Extract Error, and installation stops.
For the record, I'm on 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04, Wine v 1.0.

You know, if CCP would release EVE Linux code, I'll bet this problem would have been solved in short order by the army of hackers who fix things just for the joy of it. That's the best part of Linux and open source: problems that appear have thousands of dedicated and talented people working on it for free, rather than a few dozen controlled by a corporate agenda. [Resolved: That any further use of the term "YARR!" will result in loss of 100 million skill points and confinement to a newbie ship for one year.] |

and if CCP did that, there'd also be (nearly instantly) "free servers" which would detract from their income, and potentially from their reputation. while i agree in theory that releasing source code is good, i also understand why they can't. <3
