Edited by: Richard Third on 21/05/2009 06:56:39 Forum warriors already know this, but I was surprised to see my gallente standings (gallente federation faction) drop below 9 after declining an mission. I declined an non-storyline mission with astral mining, and saw my gallente federation standing take a major hit. with an ordinary agent. I don't think CCP documented this. Beware. -- You can't do that with a Planet. |

Only if you turn more than 1 mission down per agent every 4 hours.

How is this news? Declining a mission, any mission, you've already accepted, or declining a mission inside the 4-hour timer has given you a standings hit for a long time. It's nothing new, so you'd have to go pretty far back into release notes to find the original implementation of this. The change in Apocrypha is that allowing missions to expire doesn't affect your standings any longer.

"a mission inside the 4-hour timer has given you a standings hit for a long time."
...
standing to the agent, but the corp/faction of him/her. i'll check this in the evening when online, and hope it's not true.

Sadly it also gives you a faction standing hit (and I guess also corp).

I think it was introduced in Revelations.

i will really look at this matter in the evening, as i usually decline any missions against caldari and amarr, to keep my standing towards them safe, and i don't even care about the 4 hrs timer. one of my agents dropped from 9.6 to 8.1 already, but as far as i remember my faction standing is still ... i mean it's standing STILL. i always check it (faction only) at every single storyline mission, and it only grows.

Other guys, don't confuse standings with NPC corporations with uh factions. If you raise faction standings enough you will get free navy mega blueprints, or free navy tristan blue prints for instance. The closer you get to 10 standings, the greater the standing loss becomes.
***gy understood why i'm declining missions, (my amarr standings are at about -2).
Why am I confused? Because the warning text says "you will lose standings with this agent" NOT "lose standings with agent, corporation and faction." I feel a bit out of sorts. -- You can't do that with a Planet. |

Faction and corp standing changes will be derived (i.e. p*** off the agent and we won't be happy either).
Admittedly it could do with being a bit clearer that this would happen, but hey ho.

I think it was introduced in Revelations.
Close, it was just before that.
The reason for that change was that people were exploiting their high faction standings to effectively turn down as many mission as they wanted: they could continue to turn down missions as long as they kept their Corp and Agent standing above -5.0 and could still continue getting missions from that agent. With Connections V, your base Agent/Corp standings could get all the way down to -8.75. You would only need to complete one or two missions in a dozen or so to prevent yourself from being cut off from that agent.
The fix to this first exploit created a second exploit: declining missions increased faction standings with opposing factions. Thus with Rev II, derived standings were changed so that there are no derived effects from standings loses, only from standings gains.

Problem is you'll loose standings to other factions too. If you decline an Amarr agent mission you should see your Caldari stadings droping too.
So the text should have been: "If you decline more than 1 mission, per agent, every 4 hours you will now take a standing hit to the faction that the agent works for. And the factions who happen to like that faction too."
I'm guessing CCP doesn't want you to recover from -2.0 faction standings, so that you'd stay on the faction's regions and don't travel that much.
Bottom line if you're doing LV4s, do it with one faction only.

???
If you want, you can recover your standings easily from -2.0 factional standings (-5.0+ with diplomacy 5 trained). The only players who will have problems will be those that repeatedly reject missions without reading the warnings (ie stuppid) and those who got the bad empire standings by shooting up every non-pirate faction out there. If you only shot up all but one, you can probably recover all standings to empire factions.
Its easy to keep all factions above the -2.0 so you can do missions with all of them to level 4's. Just start with a corp for a faction (eg Amarr) and you will slowly work towards the derived standings before social skills. For Amarr this is base 10.0, caldari 7.0, galentre -2.0, min -5.0. Diplomacy 5 will convert the min from -5.0 -> -2.0 so your already close to being able to take min missions. but say you had shot a few min and got below the -5.0 before diplomacy, do a few missions for the galentre and the derived positive standings to min will quickly improve till you can take min missions. If you shot both min/gal up, use another more neutral corp like Ammatar/Sisters of eve etc.
If your worried about empire faction standings, dont do faction missions. If your doing faction missions then the structures (eg turrets) are about 100x more standing loss than a factional battleship and officers of the faction are about 60x more standing loss than a factional battleship. Do a factional mission and 4 standing losses possible - derived standing (for the mission completion itself) - structure kill (highest in time segment) - officer kill (highest in time segment) - ship kill (highest in time segment)

When grinding missions for corporation factions, I rather do encounter missions on the current system, than courier missions 5 systems away. So if I'm at Youl, and I don't get a lv2 encounter I'll fail it, cause I can recover the faction standings when the faction mission is due. Luckily you will recover the faction's friends standings too.

That, and this helps: Inter-Faction Relationships
And thanks for the tip on the structures, officers, etc.

You actually do get a message when declining a mission. Maybe you should read those next time, instead of blaming CCP afterwards :p

I cancelled a mission I had already accepted yesterday. No caldari faction hit, but lost like 0.14 standing with the Police force.
Is this relevant? No idea.
