The taranis is the most powerful t2 frigate. It does 380 dps, it can go 4km/s, it has a very powerful role bonus, as well as excellent interceptor bonuses.
Is it really fair that an interceptor does 3 or 4 times as much damage as its other racial counterparts?
I propose that we bring the taranis in line with the other interceptors and make it just that - an interceptor. Not a solo own mobile that can take on battleships.
If we removed the 10% damage bonus and instead replaced it with a 5% damage and 10% falloff bonus, and removed 5m3 of drone bandwidth, I feel that this would bring this ship inline with its counterparts.
At the moment it is just too strong and powerful a ship. It does more dps than some AFs, goes faster, and has a drone bay to boot.
All in all, I feel that all combat interceptors should be on the same page.

wat. my trolldar is going crazy.
ill bite though. the ranis has far less tank than an AF. the nature of its weapon type means it MUST be in web/scram range, the only ship of its class which must do this. warrior IIs tear it apart. seriously if it didn't have its massive damage it would be by far the most worthless ship in game.

It is the most vulnerable frigate as well, its only tank is speed, it has to operate within web AND scram range if it wants to put out damage, or it can operate with the more inline damage from rails and be a mediocre interceptor, which is still more vulnerable than its Caldari counterparts.
It's a very strong frigate, sure, but you have to accept that there will always be a ship that's better than the others in its class. ------

Edited by: Raxlar Kalimar on 22/05/2009 04:19:57 No tank????? You must be joking you can get both a good buffer with a DCU and use an armor rep and a small noss at the same time and still does more than 200dps.
However, I kill more rannis than any other interceptor. They are do or die and so easy to bait its just funny.....I use a Beli....for some reason they all see a ship with 4 mids a bonus to target painters and a 40m3 drone bay as a prime target for an interceptor.

I've always felt that the Taranis falls into a category not unlike the Vagabond. It belongs to a class outside of its formal class.
And that's that. Nothing else to it. They each have weaknesses that the other ships in their class don't have but they also get serious advantages.

I might consider this if you gave it it's ability to tackle back. That would need reversing most of QR though... --- WOLFY is recruiting!

According to your numbers, your Taranis does 380 DPS. I will give you an extra 20. So let's suppose our Taranis does 400 DPS. That means its racial counterparts (Claw, Crusader and Crow) should do 100 DPS. Let me try to setup a Crusader that does 100 DPS at ~blaster range... I will just use T1! (Note that to get 380 DPS in a Taranis you probably need deadspace/officer mods, implants and overheating)
[Crusader, New Setup 2] Heat Sink I [empty low slot] [empty low slot] [empty low slot]
1MN MicroWarpdrive I Warp Scrambler I
Gatling Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Gatling Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Gatling Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Gatling Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Either you are just trolling or forgot to fit 3 lows and 2 rigs.

I would like to see a Taranis fit that does 380 DPS.
Best I could squeeze out of EFT was 305 DPS with 3x light neutron IIs (with void), 3x MFS II (no tank) and a damage rig. You could push this a bit higher with implants and faction mods if you had isk to burn, but as the 'ranis is a close range 'do or die' tackler you are gonna lose it eventually.
And 4 km/s is not particularly fast for an interceptor.

Normal taranis setup will be doing around 250dps. Its alot for an interceptor, but its not the insane number of 380.

Can I see your 380 dps fit please?
My char with maxed out navigation skills and speed implants can fly it around 3.8 km/s. You think it's fast for an interceptor? Yeah if I overload I can achieve above 5 km/s, but 1- any other inty overloading will be faster 2- can you really overload for long when you also need to overload your other mids to make the ship viable in combat?
Quote: It does more dps than some AFs, goes faster
Around 525 m/s when being scrambled by said AF with half the EHP (in best case), troll.
Sometimes you will kite the Taranis and own it due to its lack of speed by holding range, sometimes you will enter scramble range and die horribly. I each case I see no problem.
Oh, also, Taranis is the worst tackler of all inties, just so you know.
