Hi! Im Gallente right now, but i really like the minmatar looks better. I was wondering what the drawbacks would be of using a minmatar ship over gallente ships? So far can only think of having to train minmatar frigate skills...

Gallente typically use hybrid weapons... While Minmatar use projectiles... You can probably stick a hybrid turret on a Minmatar frigate, but I'm not sure you'd have enough cap to do much with it. So you'd have to train both the frigates skill and projectile turrets.
Now is definitely the time to try out other races. I personally trained frigates for every one of the races so I could try them all out. The only downside is the time you spend training for a ship that you may never use... But it's better to find out now whether you like Minmatar or not, than to train into a Gallente battlecruiser and decide that you'd rather be flying a different race's ship.

Hehe that's the opposite of what I'm doing, I rolled Minmatar but I fell in love with some of the Gallente ships :)

<slaps the Amarr fanboi hard with a REALLY STINKY mackerel>
Take that, Amarr! I challenge you to bagels at twenty paces! Whoever lox first, wins!
All weirdness aside, the only downside you face are training time, and costs for skillbooks/gear/ships. You'd need racial frigate skill (less than a day typically to 3), racial weapon (same), and maybe some shield skills (depending on ship).
Good luck to you!

I'm a minnie who went full time gallente, but I wish I honestly wish I had gone Amarr, they seem to have all the good stuff, and their ships look like phalluses. I already have gallente BS V so I sure as hell not going to spend another year getting there with another race :P
So yeah, definitely pick a race and stick to it so you can max out your skills asap instead of putting a bit here and a bit there like many of us did.
