Hi there guys.
The CSM, together with CCP, is currently working on the first iteration of a new "way" of interaction, which seeks to create more transparency between CCP and players.
The idea is that every month, a list of 5 questions is send to CCP, which they will then answer and publish through the news system. So quite unlike the normal way of dealing with the CSM, we can now ask some quite different questions, on a more regular interval.
The CSM has brainstormed a few questions. However, we would like your input on them and we would like for you to come up with good questions, which we can ask CCP.
Here's the questions we have thus far:
- What's the status of the system wide asteroid belts, is it still on and how or has the concept been scrapped and why? - Is CCP happy with the current mineral prices? - Is the amount of T1 loot, and the minerals which it's reprocessed into, a concern for CCP and something that you are looking into? - Will Zulupark do more "Ask Uncle-Zulu" session? - Why has there not been a QEN for almost a year now? Is one ever going to be released (and if so when?). If not, why was it discontinued and what has Dr. Eyjo been doing? - What are the formulas used in the game (standings, turret tracking, invention odds, etc.)? While a few players generally work towards finding these formulas, the majority of these searchers do not do so as an end, but as a mean to an end. In some instances, figuring out the formulae used requires months spent gathering data and are sometimes frankly impossible to determine due to randomness factors. So why not divulge those and make everyone happy? - What are the 3 things you'd do differently if you were to recreate the game from scratch, and why? - What happened to live dev-blogs? - Could you give us an idea of the process involved in turning a feature idea (say, "invention" as an exemple) into a feature? - Is there still plans for a complete UI overhaul, as per one of the first live dev-blogs with Hilmar?
As you can see, these are pretty rough questions. But here we have a venue where we can ask more direct questions to CCP. Therefor, we would love if you would help us.
Post your question or offer comments on the list of ideas above.
Thanks in advance

Quote: Is CCP happy with the current FW state? Has FW been abandoned or pushed down priority in favour of other pressing matters ?
Further, does CCP has any plans or are they still "brainstorming" for additional rewards and incentives for FW players?
Although the game mechanics around FW work fairly good, "pvp as reward for itself" isnt a "visible" enough concept as can be seen in the gallente-caldari FW. Some ppl like to spin their ships more than doing plexes.
A few more incentives to plex (LP store discount tied with ranks, maybe LPs for capturing plexes but not ISK) and some more meaning to conquered systems (station docking fees/right/repair bills/increase) and a slightly more visible concept of capturing (knowing the exact amount of VP flow within one system rather than just plexing into the dark and loosing interest) might help making FW more attractive to players.
Especially the "unknown VP status" of a system is hard to understand for new FW plexing players, all their efforts arevnearly invisible and can be undone by the opposing players during their time logged out with no traces left behind.
Being able to see the "flow" (e.g. tracking the points like the price history) would at least make their efforts visible. ----- Garr Anders

Edited by: Treelox on 25/05/2009 06:15:01 When will CCP stop spending as much ISK on hiring so many content and artwork people, and instead hire more QA people? (lots of silly bugs keep slipping through all this new content, maybe with a bit less new content and a bit more QA we would have a lot less bugs)
When will CCP stop deploying expansions where the whole concept is only half way implemented? (id rather wait longer for a fully finished product, than a half baked one sooner)

Edited by: Destination SkillQueue on 25/05/2009 06:22:42 Does CCP have plans to introduce new ships/drones, that can be used in PvP on a regular basis with a normal ratting/missioning salary? By this I mean a person who has a handful of hours per week to play and does the money grind only to maintain a PvP lifestyle. The current trend seems to be more about offering cool and shiny things only to the richest few percent of the playerbase. The production process for them seems to be designed in a way, that their price will always remain fairly high. This is fine and it's nice to have those goals, but could you imagine introducing new budged models for the rest of us.

LOL at the every month part,
I like some of the questions, as for the questions about the game I could care less and don't want to know. I would be happy if a dev would answer one question a month in a blog but I don't think that will happen.
BTW everyone needs to vote in the CSM

hmpf, does CCP in all honesty think that this is a sufficient base for a good and healthy communications relationship with its customers? 5 questions a MONTH to be answered (and I bet it's the standard CCP answers like they have always been so far: "Does CCP think that Black Ops in its current form are acceptable?" - "No, we think they need some more polishing, but we are working on it. Next question please..." )
But well, I do have a question to be raised:
- Does CCP find the current communication relationship between them and their customers to be sufficient? And if not, what actions are planned to improve communications?
or
- Why doesn't CCP simply post their development/content/balancing work-schedule in a closed member section on the eve website, where there could be a comments section for the players and a possibility to "raise the priority" of the different projects

These 2 were the only ones in the OP I found interesting personally from a PVP standpoint. If you have a possibility like this please do not use it up with unnecessary fanboy stuff IMO... Like the "what goes in to feature development" or "what would you do differently" bits. Frankly I coulnd't care less about dr Eyjog either.
More stuff to the list:
- What are your plans for improving FW, what will you do for the (significant) long- term FW player base? How is the fixing of low sec lag and the "reloading bug" progressing?
- What are your current plans for weapon systems balancing?
- Do you have any plans to revisit ship speeds or to make it possible to invest in "nano" fits again (Reintroduce some speed differences to different Meta MWDs and speedmods, unnerf Snakes a bit etc) even if they were much less (cost-) effective than Pre-QR?
(Many players, including me, just enjoyed going fast... It doesn't need to be as effective or fast as it was but a bit more than we have now would be nice) --- WOLFY is recruiting!

1: When will ambulation be done? 2: Do you intend on creating the possibility to create embargos/trade federations? 3: Will we ever see an overhaul of the wardec/bounty system? 4: When will you provide long term consequence for pvp aggression? (ie. permanent kill right, transferable kill rights etc) 5: Because of falcon i accedently the whole system, can i haz stuff?

Q1: I am sure that everyone playing eve has an idea of what the words "empire building" would mean to them, but my question regards to what "empire building" would mean to CCP. How does CCP understand the notion of "empire building" in todays Eve-Online and are they willing to already now sketch out how "empire building" will be shaped in the near future?
Q2: Can CCP promise that isk spamming in chats will not keep going on for the next 6 months, specifically because of CCP intervention?
Q3: Since killmails are such an integrated part of the game, would CCP concider making and maintaining a basic killboard (not competing with eve-dev-killborad) that people/corps can easily use, primarily so that people can both install and autoupdate (!) the killboard without complicated maintenance?
Q4: Does CCP have specific objections to making capital ship combat something of its own, a paradigm (a basic conceptual understanding differing from sub-capital-ship warfare) which would create a new balancing task for capital ship warfare and non-capital ship warfare?
Q5: Does CCP have specific ideas for future community tools that they could disclose to the public?
Q6: Has CCP at all seen my thread in the "Features and Ideas Discussion " section, about visualizing the real size scaling of planet diameter and distances? Possibly a new avenue of a fascinating and unique tactical environment if CCP can make it so.

1: Can the singularity test server be updated a bit more often - especially seeing as how much the retail and indeed the (highly regarded) apocrypha patch has increased new players, some of them may wish to help test out features (such as myself, i regular beta test new games, BF heroes and quake live being the most recent).
2: When is the next major update to NPC AI planned, if at all, and what changes are being thought up?
3: As mentioned before - Dev blog - it doesn't have to be considered a definite line of development but more a quick update on the current idea's being tossed around the development table, it may also be a valuable source of community feedback on each topic (though moderation should be allowed by the blogger in case of trolls).
4: Also previously mentioned QA - Have many awesome/brilliant games have failed miserably due to QA fail before release? An easy example is the most recent patch which causes the slideshow effect on loading new systems? It has certainly affected my gametime and others to a large degree. No matter how good a game CAN be, if it has too many glitches it WILL be shunned.
5: More may be added to this post in future

This seems to be a part of a bigger question: Is there any work being done on documenting game mechanics in general? Some bits are reasonably well documented, such as criminal flagging, turret tracking, missile damage (now outdated), but some bit are left as mystery to players to unravel: ship agility, probing sig strength/deviation, broker fees...

I find this question extremely intriguing. Should, probably, be asked on per group basis, since people dealing with database layout and people writing client code will have very different answers

STOP with making new content and all kind of shiny stuff. Ambulation can wait, game improvement can't.
START working on balancing the game a bit more (some places really lack) & fixing all those bugs that need attention.
START ALSO with improving current content instead of adding new stuff. These things go from SOV, POS-es, FW, UI & much more.
The game will only become worse if you add more shiny content and you don't update the current stuff. Eventually when Ambulation hits you might have so many bugs & stuff out-dated that all the players have to wait another year (or 3) just with game mechanics that are either boring or don't work at all. I would like to play a game with spaceships in space, not SIMS in spacestations. |

I'm relatively new to this game, so I'll ask the questions on the things I see have been discussed to death.
1) When is there going to be a balancing mechanism for new characters who join the universe... there really is no "catch up" type mechanism. Players who have 4 years of skill points are forever destined to be ahead. (Yes I realize people will never catch up in skill points, but in some areas it'd be nice to have 1 mission runner and say an industrialist, realistically however you cannot do both for quite some time.)
Suggestion: At this point I understand why you only allowed 1 skill to be trained per account and not per character. At this time however, I doubt its of much consequence to allow 1 skill per character. Solely because there are other issues to deal with at this point, such as game balance. New players get frustrated quickly, when they can't compete with players who have been playing for 2-4 years.
---
Again I know this topic has been discussed to death, but as a new player and knowing other new players, its a huge source of frustration. |

Question 1, which is similar to someone else's: Are there any plans for content that's not hideously expensive or skill-intensive? While it's great to add content to keep older players in the game, it's basically a slap in the face to newer players who can't play with the new content.
2: Are there any talks whatsoever about introducing an accelerated skill training system on SiSi? It's difficult to test things when I can't even fly them!
3 (less pressing, but would be nice): How often are the Bug Hunter apps looked at? It seems like an extremely long wait...
I like most of the other questions too.

Just two questions really.
Are you aware that the huge amount of small flaws of the game is potentially more destructive on a long term perspective then bigger ones?
Do you realize that the moment any other mmo copies your 3 main aspects player driven economy, single shard, and high pvp aspect, you risk loosing your edge?

Do you have an MMO in mind that could possibly do so right now?

I have a question.
Are there any future plans to extremely expand the "Known Universe" that is accessible? More accurately, more low sec regions with no pipes into null-sec space, more Null-sec space, not necessarily further out from empire/low sec, just there. And i'm not talking one or two regions, i am speaking in numbers of doubling the current number of known systems. Maybe not all at once, but if possible large chunks at a time. Also, no "High end" moons in the low-sec regions, we don't want alliances looking at these regions for themselves, preferentially it would become a sort of "Corporate warzone" with Profitable ventures for the little guy so to speak. ___________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Dear CCP:
Will "characters" in Station Walking be able/be required to train any new skills specifically geared to the Station Walking environment?
Examples:
Hand To Hand combat skills for those recreational bar brawls? Small arms/Hand weapon skills for more lethal actions?
Mostly curious just how "interactive" Station Walking will initially allow players to be with each other and not just the station environment itself.

I mean, what happened (and when) to release this patch on Tuesday, 26th May? (Something like that, maybe a bit more detailed)
After all a lot of people are still puzzled and some explanation could help us all to understand better.

They were just ****ing examples. Deal with it.
And the very reason why I even posted, was to get better ideas for questions. I agree, most of them are suboptimal for what the whole Q&A thing tries to achieve. As such, it only makes sense to have the community come up with questions.
Pot, meet kettle. Bolded it for you.

Lets just make sure that we agree that it's perfectly fine if people think that the ideas in the op are good. There's a few of them I'd love to see asked. Like if the QEN is cancelled or not.
So my original statement stands: People are welcome to offer comments on the ideas for questions, which were posted in the op. However, the CSM wants to make sure that we get the best possible questions, hence why we open it up to the public.

What about the tons of spam of isk sellers on every publicly available channel? The game is losing appeal because of it and pretty much everyone I know is sick and tired of them. Is CCP willing to nerf starting and buddy toons in order to do more against these low lives isk sellers?

Question:
Is CCP planning on rethinking the role of Titans and Motherships? Emphasis on the fact that they both serve as tombs for a character under the current game mechanics.

My questions.
Will ccp start working and seeing "EVE Online" as a game and not as money milking cow.
Atm as seeing in patches, it clearly shows that is in goal for money milking .
CCP main Directors:
Will you please stop, adding fancy stuff and start fixing EVE ?

When will the forums be updated to the modern age? These forums are by far some of worst i have seen, as regards to usability, thread subscriptions etc - even the newest 5 person gaming clan of any game can introduce a more usable forum.

1. Are there any plans on expanding into Jove universe? Whats their status expect it hangs in the air? 2. Ambulation is coming. More info please! Its still a long time till Fanfest, and we havent had an update on a long time, except its still under developement. 3. Are there any plans on planetary interaction? Terraforming, colonization, planetary developement etc? 4. Will there be new reasonable ships to play with? I am thinking in particularily in price range of less then 50 mill each. (Getting tired of paying 100+ mill for a ship just to loose it..) I am a particularily fan of dont fly what you cant afford to lose principle. And I am a greedy bastard! 5. When are the next graphic upgrades coming? Thinking in particular of the universe itself. Planets, moons, space etc. 6. What you think in general about the current balance between the two parts in EVE commonly known as carebears and PvPers? Are there a place for fullblown Carebears in EVE, or are they just whimps who makes life annoying for the PvPers and difficult for the devs?
Well. Just some questions I could think of right now with my cobwebfilled brain. Time to sleep...

These from your list.
Id also like to know if there are any plans to look at blasters or blaster ships? (i havent even seen bs sized blasters used in game since before apocrypha). Also the status on the next stages in the graphical overhaul (positional stellar bodies / planets / rings etc) and also the new gate fx that appeared on sisi briefly. Finally, what (if it ever existed) became of being able to change the colour of the lights on tech 3 ships etc?

This question is good. Two others I'd ask are: - Why was there absolutely no followup after the deployment of the Empyrean Age expansion and Faction Warfare? - What does CCP's QA process look like, how many people are involved and how are they working to improve it?

Any plans for regular and routine economic updates (ie: establish a set of reports that can be automated, have these released routinely, with prognostication and commentary by the economic advisor)?
UI overhaul? any chance of allowing players to build custom UI along the lines of LUA + XML with restricted interface items as per WoW?
Moving asteroid belts to exploration content only? More grav sites?
Focus on bugfixes for a couple quarters?
Change to sovereignty to make it more focussed on power projection rather than structure erection?

would like to know this one and also these
if you are need us the players to bug test the game would it not be worth while to give a bonus if you will to players that help and work with ccp to improve the game and bug hunting i.e. if you spend x days on the test sever and activly look for bugs and report them that you would get credit for that time you have spent on the test sever to help in the release of the patch?
atm there are over 170 titans in the game do you have plans to release a bigger class of ship, a daddy dread if you will tier 2 dread, that like the ms and titan is a super class capital and its function is that of a titan killer? -and would this bpo be at a price that is so high it will take alliance time to get it like it did with the 1st titans?
are you working on plans to allow corp merges to happen e.g. corp a is to join corp b or there is a share buy out and corp a has high sec towers atm if they merge they loss the towers unless they use alt not alway the easy?
last question and this is a question i always ask so i am going to again lol can i have a caldari titan please? 01101111 01100110 01100110 01100010 01100101 01100001 01110100 00100000 01100011 01110010 01100101 01100001 01110100 01101001 01101111 01101110 |

Will you release at least biennially, if not quarterly, information regarding the following: * average ISK in players' wallets * wealth distribution * average accounts per player (if this can be determined at all) * wealth distribution based on number of accounts players have
Tactical environments and friendly fire. The one will add more depth to combat, and the other will reduce blobbing. When will we get either of this, if ever?
If T3 ships ever really did become as cheap as HACs, you do realize they'd be overpowered in their current form, right? What will you do to balance the "good" T3 loadouts? How will you buff the far more numerous inferior loadouts?
Will there be an expedited process for both determining what is an acceptable alliance logo and implementing it into the game? Someone from Wildly Inappropriate mentioned this as well so I'm seconding.

Originally by: LaVista Vista The CSM has brainstormed a few questions. However, we would like your input on them and we would like for you to come up with good questions, which we can ask CCP.
Here's the questions we have thus far:
1- What's the status of the system wide asteroid belts, is it still on and how or has the concept been scrapped and why? 2- Is CCP happy with the current mineral prices? 3- Is the amount of T1 loot, and the minerals which it's reprocessed into, a concern for CCP and something that you are looking into? 4- Will Zulupark do more "Ask Uncle-Zulu" session? 5- Why has there not been a QEN for almost a year now? Is one ever going to be released (and if so when?). If not, why was it discontinued and what has Dr. Eyjo been doing? 6- What are the formulas used in the game (standings, turret tracking, invention odds, etc.)? While a few players generally work towards finding these formulas, the majority of these searchers do not do so as an end, but as a mean to an end. In some instances, figuring out the formulae used requires months spent gathering data and are sometimes frankly impossible to determine due to randomness factors. So why not divulge those and make everyone happy? 7- What are the 3 things you'd do differently if you were to recreate the game from scratch, and why? 8- What happened to live dev-blogs? 9- Could you give us an idea of the process involved in turning a feature idea (say, "invention" as an exemple) into a feature? 10- Is there still plans for a complete UI overhaul, as per one of the first live dev-blogs with Hilmar?
1) Never really heard anything about system wide asteroid belts before. 2) Little to no concern. 3) Little to no concern. 4) Little to no concern. 5) Little to no concern. 6) It would be nice to have these formulas. It would certainly put a lot of questions to rest. 7) Little to no concern. 8) Little to no concern. 9) Little to no concern. 10) A complete UI overhaul would be a godsend.
If I had the chance to directly ask CCP questions, it would be this:
Are there any plans on incentivising T3 production and wormhole space in general? WH exploration seems to have taken a backseat when it comes to the general going-ons in EvE.
Are there any plans to do anything with FW? I've never participated in FW, but I have noticed the issue come up a LOT from other players during the CSM elections and were for the most part ignored.
Are there plans on completing and streamlining the tutorials? The new player experience revamp does not seem to be complete. There are entire gaps in the tutorial that fail to teach some of the more basic and important aspects of EvE.
Will CCP be adding some sort of clear guidance/direction/goals for new players to aspire towards? CCP said the reason behind the 94% reduction in starting skill points was so that it gives all new players the opportunity to "choose their own path". However, no paths or directions have been laid out nor clearly defined. At least with the old character creator system, you were choosing a named career. Quote: "Hi, welcome to EvE I guess. Here's, like, 50k SP to start. We'd give you more but you should, like, really follow your own path and stuff. What? Which paths? I dunno man, it's, like, a big universe and junk, so whatever."
CCP can do better than this.
Yes yes, feel free to roll your eyes and scoff at me. I've been very vocal about this subject in the past. Six years so far with minimal population growth indicates something is terribly wrong with the new player experience. Box release should have brought in far more than a meager 50k players.
I strongly believe it's the learning curve that is the culprit here. A learning curve which was not smoothed out as promised with the Apocrypha expansion. ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. Direction in what way? What improvements do you specifically have in mind? The New Player Experience thing points you directly to career agents that that show you the basics of how industry, trade, and combat works. After you get done with each mission chain, they point you to Arnon for the epic arc. Some of those missions are tough enough that newbies tend to ask in local for help, which brings them into contact with other players. The Epic arc introduces you to all of the major factions, and through the whole thing, new players are probably noticing that hey, there's other agents here.
At the end of it all, they have ships, skillbooks, and should have an impression of what they enjoy doing, both through all these missions and through interaction with other players. Personally, I'm hard-pressed to find a way to improve it, aside from any gaps in the tutorials that are meant to be there but are missing. A lot of Eve can't be taught through tutorials and missions or skillbooks, but rather through experience.

1) Lack of available moon minerals at reasonable/competitive prices. New moons need to be seeded or high sec mining, or intelligent ratios for alchemy introduced.
2) Sizes of droids are pitiful in empire space. Higher/larger droids needed to keep up with larger player base.
