Nah, it's no problem getting it out at all.... The web trick still works with freighters last I tried it, so all you need is a disposable cyno alt with a web on a frigate. Cyno in, web with your alt and you're in insta-warp to the nearest gate to highsec.
I do the jumps Jita -> Thelan -> Crielere (Jita) with a Nomad occasionally and have no problem. (And Crielere is just next to BL3H country, never a more bored bunch of pirates in the history of Eve) Just make sure local is clear when you pop the cyno, and log the pilot out as soon as the freighter is in warp.
In terms of market hubs: I used to make and sell quite a lot of stuff in Thelan for the local mission-runners, and Evati has (or had) a fairly reasonable market going for a similar reason - and factional warfare has helped that along nicely from what I can see. Getting a JF in or out of Evati, I wouldn't be able to comment on, though.
Also, JF jump costs ISK, and there's risk also (eg 5% chance of loss = 200M risk premium each trip) so you've gotta factor that into the price of the goods you're selling.
As for a normal freighter in and out of lowsec - I've taken my Fenrir through Thelan once, and I wouldn't recommend it except for the adrenaline rush... It stirred up the guys from The United something fierce. Nothing gives pirates a massive hardon and induces frenzy like a freighter on scan. I renamed it 'BL3H Bait' after that.

Pirates will shoot everyone who comes near the hub, and they will buy their stuff in high sec with alts. So it will never work.

Its certanly possible to do it, tho you would need to contact known pirate groups and get them to give you blue status, and you must make it worth their while as well, i.e. no overpirced items and such.
Many groupes are interesting in having access to a market in low sec.
But as stated, many pirate corps already got freighter pilots with good sec stat that can haul for them.

Ever try flying a freighter into low-sec?
This is relatively safe getting one into a highsec bordering system. Have a scout webbing the freighter so it insta warps to station. Real travel is more frightening but one jump in lowsec is only a two man job. -- 20081014 : emoragequit, char transfered to a friend, 20090317 : back under original ownership POS anchoring service in Gallente and Minmatar |

It's not a hard concept to implement. You just need enough PVPers to safely lock down a system or 3 while you move your freighters back and fourth. In some area's it would work well. The JF idea works too, though is a little slower, but is better for smaller groups.

this
this, aka what's the point?
Any serious attempt at lowsec trade hub needs serious transport ships, which will all end up getting blown up.
I like the idea though.

The only way I see this happening is if CCP would implement a mechanic where a player corp or alliance can be awarded ownership of a low sec system from the NPC faction that originally owns it.
If they receive a percentage of the market income and get the right to attack anyone at their discretion in that system it would provide an incentive to keep the system safe and promote trading. If the system is "safe" the mission runners will come and they will buy stuff. Pirates can also try their luck, but the corp owning the system would protect anyone under attack (if they want the system to remain profitable).
Currently there is very little incentive to protect a system, part due to you quickly get -10 sec standing, and partly because you would have to kill all other traders trying to use your hub, thereby making it much less profitable.

You talk about nullsec mechanics in lowsec ...

You don't need to kill other traders. Hint: Adam Smith.

Meh, in my corp we are all -10, out of 30 ppl we have 2 JF, and 3 freighter alts, and quite a few carriers
We have been using freighters, carriers and jump freighters sense they came out in eve, and have never lost one.
Its simple really... all you have to do is get 1 jump into lowsec, find a station there that has a large undock range, and if somehow you go poof, you are eves biggest noob. All it takes is 3-4 guys to guard the freighter jumping in and eyes in the system and make sure theres no more then a few people there.
Possibly the most simple thing to do in eve

With the exception that you make money out of trades in your system, which you don't do in nullsec. That thing alone should indicate that it might be better to have a "shoot only reds" policy instead of NBSI. You actually want as many people as possible in your system to make the phat isk. You're technically farming the mission runners and traders
I'm not saying that everyone would do this with their low sec system, but a few would and those would get some really nice traffic.

We sold a good array of things down at Skarkon at one point in time. Before that at Pertnineere, Harroule and Reblier. While you can make some decent sales I'd never consider making it my sole source of income, sales being few and far between.

This is all very simple. The problem with creating a market hub is demand, not supply. The security of the system is irrelevant.
You need mission runners or ratters to provide minerals to manufacturers, who in turn supply the mission runners with consumables like ammo and drones. After an ecosystem to provide the basics is established you can bring in the luxury goods and grow volume.
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

Name one low sec system that's been terraformed by PC interaction like you describe.

Explains why there are no market hubs in lowsec, now doesn't it?
Sure, there may be a couple of stations better stocked than others but nothing even remotely resembling a hub. This also explains why regions like Derelik and Devoid lack a regional hub -- the L4 agent population is pretty sparse in those areas.
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

You're correct, but this particular statement is wrong. The system's security status plays a direct role in whether or not mission runners will make it the system a home for any real length of time. Security, in this case, not just by CONCORD, but also by local player corps / alliances. If the place is full of pirates, nobody will populate it. If it's secured or regularly patrolled in some fashion, then you can begin making it a place to live.

Although this can be profitable, it's too risky and the logistics is difficult. The only place I saw this run well was when the pirate corp holding the space was the one building the market. And half the stuff that sold still went back to the market after it got blown up :p

Woops, my bad. I should have qualified that statement "irrelevant to the supply side."
I would figure out how to supply a system with 200+ reds in local 23/7 if enough profit was there. But for reasons already covered elsewhere in the thread neither the demand nor profit will materialize in lowsec with current game mechanics.

I have tried this a few times. Bought the stuff from Jita and tried to sell in low sec pirate land.
With the exception of low value items such as basic ammo the pirates use the carebear alts to buy the good stuff from Jita.
Hence most of the staff didn't sell and the loss of a few haulers made the whole objective pointless.
Risk is to high for sod all rewards. Most established pirate corps are well organised from a logistics point of view and have their own industrial back-bone including freighters and transport NPC Alts.

To answer your question, there have been, and still are market hubs in low sec and some make hundreds of millions of isk (that's net, not gross ) per day in sales. However, that's nothing compared to what a Jita trader can make or lose in seconds... so most of the people with the accounts, resources, market orders, etc, that can do it, don't, because they can make more trading in Jita.

Ok heres how it works
Wormholes roam around high sec find a wormhole linking to a factional warfare system low sec. Grab hauler or transport ship if its a quite system but near to a lot of FW combat simply take the transport ship in from high sec with whatever cargo dock at station offload put up sell orders ( bring several hauls thro) stock market with cheapish goods small profit margin put up long dated sell orders for items that have good regional volumes ( ammo drones, cheap t1 ships frigates cruisers battleships) t2 ammo and modules also stuff that gets blown up a lot but has good profit margins, and non regional items ( ie everything non laser related in amarr low sec regions) obviously local rat loot drops will fill in laser needs but caldari, minmatar and gallente related goods will sell well
