I want to ask a question..
Gatecamps. We all love them, but whats the best tactic for the DPS ships? Obviously a Hictor for lowsec is a must, but for the actual DPS is it better to have range or damage? I can see both sides to the argument and I don't know which one is better. Does the number of ships in the camp change the argument? At what point does it switch from very high DTP to sniping setups?
TL;DR: Should I fit my gatecamping mega with rails or blasters and an MWD.

Damage is very important, as well as having a dedicated "full tackle" ship(web/scram).
Best bet is 2 Hics, 1 for fast tackle(aim for 4 digit scan res) just to stop the warping, second one is the full tackle.
Then it's just a matter of killing them before they can coast back to the gate.
In a Mega you typically will not lock fast enough to be able to get the web on in time to prevent them making it back to the gate. MWD is vital because it gives you a ton of options that you wouldnt have w/o one.
I personally do not opt for the whole sniping at the gate. You're basically just sitting there waiting for somebody to warp in on your spot. You'll probably be isolated from your gang.
Numbers obviously change things, if you're camping for profit(3-6 ships)the goal is to pop the ship, check the loot and bounce out. In a camp lke this you'll probably fill a specific role and you'll know what your gang needs based off of what your buddies are loaded out with.
If you're just looking for KMs with 20 buddies in lowsec you can probably fit wtf ever you want, I've seen BSes with 3 sensor boosters on them....gotta make the mail right?

OK.. The sniping fit for gatecamping im talking about is not a true sniping fit.. I mean the fit where you get t2 large rails and a bunch of damage mods because you have SO MANY people in the camp (read 40 or 50) that no one has to move for at least half the camp to be in range. Damage is actually pointless at this point as well, your about to get a minimum of 20 BSs put a volley in to the target.. Targeting speed is king as its the only way to get on the killmail.
For gangs of say 5 though..

I refuse to fit smartbombs. Discussion over their use in gatecamps will not be entered in to.

An alternative to smartbombs is the Instapop camp. Basically set up like you're going to suicide gank, but largely just go for REDICULOUS alpha and scan res.
As for the the guys who go hictor, if you're going rr, throw in a lachesis, since it can get to good scan res, shut down gate rushers, still be rr, and have about the same dps, and is still cheaper. Faction scrams make it just pure sex.

I seen low sec camps where a bs's shoots another ship to draw sentry fire so the cepters can tackle with ease..
well for 30 seconds anyways, lmao

I've seen a few different strategies (where to bubble, what ship types to use, whether to use hictor/dictor bubbles or deployables, how many points and webs you really need...)
The 4 things that really seem to matter from what I've seen: - you have to have enough ships (and points/webs) to trap and completely mangle the typical traffic coming through (i.e. more dps than you NEED to kill a ship, so it doesn't get back through a gate. think burning down an 800 defense battleship in <20 sec, if that's your mark...) - don't bother with huge constellation gates unless you have MANY bubbles, jump range on those is freaking huge and ships slip through very easily. - your key points/webs must have 1500+ scan resolution. (well and they need to pay attention) otherwise they should go get a different ship. - a team that works well together! that's KEY.

I had this with my mega, not the question itself but the annoyance of having such short range just to have decent dps. I personaly found blasters with tungston, you may get the reduction in dps but i found its the instant application of dps on the target that gets the kill before they gate run. Even tho the range is still low you will hit anything instantly and well.
Snipers are fail unless for lolz imo, Can be cool till something uncloaks next to you and the cyno goes up :/

Ceptor with bs projecting sensor strenght onto with one carrier as rr support to keep it alliv vs the gate guns, work as good bait for people wanting to take the carrier out, just make sure you have more cap for the re-hotdrop

It's funny, Req and I had a very similar conversation earlier, except it was about close range RR BS fleets instead of gatecamping. Myself, him, and Triumvirate are all of the opinion that Rails are the way to go, while CoW prefers blasters.
It's all situational of course. If it's just you and the HIC, then fit for max damage. If your in a decent sized fleet, then go for the rails. Fit a MWD either way.

Confirming ceptors really like sentry fire. And don't give me any bullsh*t about RRs from the carrier, your ceptor would instapop in the time it takes a capital rep to cycle.
PS - Did you even read what the OP was actually asking about?
