Ok so, I gave a friend a 21 day trial key for Eve Online. He decided he wanted to sub but had to go to D2D to get the game from their (after seeing the "CD Kay" option on the sub page). I have no idea why but meh... whatever.
However, a problem arises when he clicks on this option. He clicks this option, clicks next and the page simply refreshes. I can only imagine that this is a bug with the page but I am just checking - for his benefit and mine - whether you can enter a D2D CD Key for the 21 day trial in this way.
Frankly, if you can't it makes zero sense what so ever to have the option on the sub page. False advertising much? I'll slow down however. Jumping the gun slightly there lol

What on earth is he doing getting the game from Direct2Drive (If thats the D2D your talking about) when you can get the client free from the website here and you have to open your account either here or on steam anyway. ___________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I have no idea and frankly, I do not care. I assume there was good reason for it (for example, refused payment on his card). Regardless, I am not here to scrutinise the why's. I am here to get an answer to a question.

AFAIK you can only use 1 CD-Key and thats for setting up the account intially, if he started on the buddy program it entered the key for him already, he either needs to pay by card or go to somewhere like shattered crystal and buy a GTC from there to activate the account.

the CD key account creation is an option.
There is another one where you buy an account with a credit card.

Originally by: Ecnav the CD key account creation is an option.
This is the issue. He saw the CD key option on the sub page and - after CCP declined his card - he decided to buy the game from D2D. When he tries to enter the CD key on the sub page - to update his trial to a full account - it simply refreshes the payment options page whenever he tries to select CD key.
As I said, if it does turn out that the CD key option doesn't work then I'm going to have to call foul play. Surely that is a case of false advertising on CCPs behalf? Again however - no consistent answer has been reached - I'm jumping the gun.

I see no option to use a CD-Key when extending a subscription through the account management page, you can create an account with one but nowhere does it say you can use a CD-Key to extend your sub.

Then you are either blind or are not seeing what I am seeing. When you select the, "extended trial," button, it takes you to a page that has a list of options for you to extend the trial. At the very bottom, there is a, "CD Key," option. I have been on his trial account and I have seen that option with my own eyes. He has also seen that option as well, otherwise he would not be in his current position.

*edit*
Created a trial and this is what is says
A CD key is a 35-character activation code used to create a new EVE Online account. You are not required to use other types of payment until the days associated with the key expire. Your account will be activated immediately.
Bolded the important part, not sure why its listed under the extend your account option but it does clearly state its only for creating a new account
*edit 2* after clicking the CD-Key option it clearly doesn't work, i'll even fill in the bug report to save you some time, but again as i pointed out the bolded part above covers it.

Clearing the cache won't mystically make an option thats not supposed to be there work, cleared it on my end still just redirects back to choosing a payment option, i've BR'ed the issue as a fault as i don't believe going by the wording used that the option should display on that page

Tis all sorted :-) CCP have applied the CD key to his account manually ;-) Bit of an odd thing to do for an, "option that's not supposed to be there," don't you think? Ever thought that it could just be a bug on the sub update page? Moer than likely what it is ;-)

I think its an option thats not meant to be there and they simply allowed it to stop problems, its common business practice to avoid complaints, either way BR'ed so i expect the issue will "remove" itself shortly :P
